    Confused

Hi, hope everyone is doing well! It's been a while. I'm post op 7 months and have lost a total of 90 lbs. slightly more than my goal. I eat what I want but have to eat small meals more often. The only problem for me is my bowel movements. Loose, immediate sometimes, often sometimes. It's amazing how much crap I can crap. Anybody else having this issue. My blood work is perfect. Take nothing but vitamins. No diabetes, no cholesterol that's high. We need to start a SIps group
  3. Keep in mind that the sips procedure includes the sleeve as well.
  4. I'd say post op 8 weeks and I was eating somewhat normal but that depends what you call normal. I mostly eat Protein. Little room for much else. I can eat most anything and have. The worst for me is bread, awful. Carmel popcorn at the holidays made me very sick. Alcohol has been ok, wine, scotch in smaller quantities. If I eat carbs it has negative consequences, bad gas and diarrhea. Typical Breakfast is a slice of bacon and a yougurt, Protein Bar for snack. Tuna fish for lunch , another small snack and some kind of protein for supper. I can tolerate eating veges but by the time you eat your protein there's not much room. I have lost 74 lbs and have 13 more until I hit my goal. I'm not a big gym person, love being outside so exercise has been tough considering our winter but spring is here!
  5. Great to hear yall are doing so well. I'm very happy with the procedure and 4.5 months out. Let me know if I can answer any questions.
  6. Posted Today, 7:23 AM So I went to my visit yesterday with my wife to get my band scheduled. At 5 ft 7 and 240lbs my main reason for WLS is ridding myself of diabetes. After a long conversation with my surgeon I have decided on a new procedure . The sleeve gastrectomy with single Anastomosis duodenoileal bypass. By bypassing the pancreas it results in diabetes resolution. It's been done in Spain for several years and recently in the US but data is limited. Any info from others is appreciated. BC/BS doesn't consider it experimental. It's approved . I'm actually going to be in a study my surgeon and six others in the US. mostly to gather long term data as the isn't any. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?....
  7. Congrats! How are things going for you? I'm about 6 weeks before you. Any help I can give let me know.

Swell you can see I have progressed well . No more diabetes meds, no more cholesterol meds. All of that has been resolved. Started at 245, now at 184. In less than 10 weeks. Almost too fast. Feeling good except trying to get my bowel movements regular and consistent. When's your surgery?
  9. Below is some information about this relatively new procedure. my surgeon is participating in a study and I am in that study. Its to get some long term and short term info. This procedure could become the surgical cure for type 2 diabetes! Here is some information regarding the SIPS procedure: Single-Anastomosis Duodenal Switch or Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery (SIPS)-Introduced in 2007 Single anastomosis duodenal switch (SIPS) primarily depends on intestinal malabsorption, but also utilizes gastric reduction to achieve weight loss. Firstly, a sleeve gastrectomy is performed to reduce the size of the stomach. The lowest part of the intestines, the ileum, is left undivided, but the duodenum is separated, leaving a small segment attached to the stomach and a longer free-hanging segment to which the liver and pancreas are attached. The ileum is brought up and re-connected to the duodenum segment. Digestion of Protein and fat only occurs in the lower portion, about 7 feet long, of the lower intestines. SIPS is a new type of duodenal switch procedure that made its debut less than 5 years ago and is still under investigation. The main differences between the classic DS and SIPS are the following. There is only one anastomosis between the stomach and the small intestines, as opposed to two in the DS. SIPS creates a longer common channel (through which nutrients pass through) resulting in less frequent bowel movements, less side effects, and less Vitamin deficiencies. On average, the surgery takes less than two hours to complete; patients are discharged 2-3 days post-op, and return to work after 2-4 weeks. Advantages •Greater weight loss results •Effective procedure to lower cholesterol and triglycerides •Effective procedure in remission of type-II diabetes Disadvantages •May result in less weight loss in the long germ than a classic DS •Long-term results are still under investigation Risks •Bowel obstruction, 2-4% in cases •Need for reversal or reoperation due to malnutrition, 2-5% in cases •Leakage, <1% in cases •Bleeding, <1% in cases .

@jaba. I did end up having the sleeve with SIPS. It's not the same as the DS but somewhat similar. Some internal staples pulled loose where the flap of the stomach is stapled down. My colon got very swollen in the hospital. The gave me antibiotics but the weight off the distended colon pulled at the stomach and pulled a few loose. No big deal. Just another surgery and 3 more days in the hospital. Now all is great!

Sorry , I haven't been on this site very much. We started a FB page for Nov Sleevers and I spend time on there. I had a prob with my surgery and had some staples pull loose.,had to go back in after being home one night. Since then it has gone great. Total weight loss 55 lbs and only 27 from goal. Able to eat most anything but protein is what I concentrate on. Still getting to know my sleeve and bowels. The best news is that my bloodwork came back with normal levels across the board. No high cholesterol, no diabete! No medications anymore at all. It's been interesting, lots of discovers. I count proteins and calories but I'm not a nut about it. Trying to walk but it's so damn cold and I hate treadmills but that's what I'm doing.
  12. I was sleeved with a SIPS procedure on 11/14 and had to spend a couple of extra nights due to some swelling in my colon. They sent me home but I developed severe pain and was readmitted the next day. They found I had pulled loose a couple of staples, fixed me up and started pumping the antibiotics. I spent another 4 days in the hospital. Been doing great ever since. Moving to soft foods on Wednesday. HW 250. SW 230 CW 201 I've lost almost 50 lbs and am just 2 lbs from onederland! I was wearing waist 44s, today I'm wearing 38s. Amazing. Post op 3 weeks I just don't seem to have a lot of energy. I know that will change......I'm ecstatic!
  13. So happy for you, love your energy and attitude....you go girl!

4 weeks post op and I'm gonna wait a few more to have anything. Pre op I was a weekend and vacation red wine drinker. I was at a friends last week and had a small glass of really good scotch with a little water. Sipped it over a while. No issues!
  16. Thanks! I'm loving it, just want to feel the energy to exercise and get going more.

@@gertiesboys Inspirational! Great info, a lot of it applies to me and I ve done a lot of the same things although I'm just getting starting....1 week post op
  22. Well 1 week ago I had my sleeve with a Sips connection on Friday afternoon. Did the swallow test and everything looked good. Belly was a little distended but they sent me home Sunday nite. Monday am after a terrible night in pain I was back at the docs office having X-rays . Found a leak in ann odd place and went back into surgery on Monday night. Kept me in this time till bowels were moving, got home last night, I'm sore as he'll and beat up from two surgeries in one week but I wouldn't go back for anything different. Things happen, my surgeon fixed it, gave great explanation and made sure I am on the road to recovery and feeling better.....
