Do I Have Unrealistic WLS Expectations?
SLONP-lapband2bypass replied to Smye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your start weight 412, you put 214, I'm confused. Good for you for taking this step. You will be successful as you are already doing more than many of prior to the prep phase. Do you have support at home? I have a sister who is also morbidly obese, no idea what her actual weight is, I find myself feeling guilty for being normal weight now. I have lost 82 Lbs total and now would like to build muscle mass and loose the little fat remaining. Has anyone else felt guilty about either the decision to do surgery or guilty about the success of weight loss? I feel like everyone is thinking... Just you watch, she'll gain it back. It's probably my negative feedback. ???? -
size 20 to size 16 ????

I continue to have problems with meat and I'm 4 months and a week post explant of my LapBand and conversion to RNY gastric bypass. After 3 months I had to go to liquids and soft for a few weeks then gradually try barely done chicken, now I can also tolerate shrimp, crab so long as there is additional sauce and I eat very slow. I don't have much hunger feeling although when I see foods advert I Ed, they sure look good. I do best if I avoid all bread????????. I so miss that! I have had a terrible time getting enough fluids in daily, nothing tastes good. Constipation is unbearable, complicated by having chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain. The narcotics are wicked on the gut. My peristalsis is about as active as I feel like being... I just want to sleep and wake up to no pain. I suppose my mantra is do as much as you can to move forward. On a good note, I have gone from a size 20 to a 12, lost 82 lbs since starting the journey 12/29/2010. With a 50 lbs regain and loss 2012->2014. That regain was so defeating, I'm bound and determined to not let that happen again! Good luck to us all!!! -
Does everyone do this
SLONP-lapband2bypass replied to jessb418's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have the same issue, it has improved by slowing down more, eating 1/2 cup or less over 20-30", only trying very moist chicken. I'm really tired of barfing, it's only thick mucus and maybe a smidgen of whatever I ate last. -
Just had GB on Oct 31 2014. I am still in so much pain!

What is a stent for, to prevent structures from recurring? Apparently I don't have any structure. Makes me worry that my symptoms are psychosomatic. This sucks! -
Can't tolerate solid after 12 weeks post Lapland to gastric bypass
SLONP-lapband2bypass posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've tried tiny portions, get a couple bites in then start salivating, feelings miserable, burps, finally gag up thick mucus, rarely foods product. I've had a endoscopy, Flaton by , non Bariatric gastro MD. W/O ANY IMPROVEMENT. I'M losing a pound every 2 -3 days. No appetite. Which is fine. Anyone else have this difficult with solids? -

WLS Revisions?
SLONP-lapband2bypass replied to betche23's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I believe had my band with plication it seems that is an adjunct to Bariatric surgery. I think all of us have struggled with our weight for years, finding the best mode is illusive and not always successful. I hope that everyone finds a successful w/o suffering side effects. The only thing that I like about my gastric bypass is that I no longer feel hunger, and I'm almost at goal weight. I hope that keep it off. -
WLS Revisions?
SLONP-lapband2bypass replied to betche23's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
No one is doing lap band anymore... Because it isn't a successful tool, I don't think there are even studies on someone having Gastric Bypass, gaining back then doing Lap band. I agree with the other posts about looking aft the root cause for the right gain. I am sorry you have gone through this. I had Lap Band and was successful with weight Loss when I followed the plan, however I experienced ongoing reflux and regurgitation of mucus and recurrent nausea. I gained 3/4 of my weight loss back in the next year because I could not tolerate most vegetables, fruit & meat. My revision with Gastric bypass has not been w/o complications, same symptoms this time, able to eat a couple small bites of chicken, another meal a half a cup of refried beans, and about 4 tortilla chips. I was able to eat a 1/2 c. Of mashed potatoes mixed with stuffing, a small piece of Turkey white meat, eaten over an hour. It takes me all morning to get my 8 oz protein drink down. It has now been 11 weeks. I've had 2 endoscope which were normal. I've now gone from 246# to 182, back up to 226, back to 212 prior to revision and now 169.6. Every weight loss method takes work. Unfortunately! -

I like all the rest of you had lots of issues with ALWAYS feeling like something was struck in my esophagus, whether I had eaten or not!. I think the most Fluid I ever had in my band was 3cc, then they started removing it till it was empty, still had same feeling only slightly better. All the while I was on Omeprazole or some other PPI, double dosing. Stick with that feeling like a failure for 3.75 years. I had my lap band removal and conversion to RNY on 8/26/14. My overall situation was also complicated by a back injury relapse requiring meds, epidural, PT, exercise, etc. Day of and day 2. I was in excruciating pain!!!!!. GAS PAIN, I WAS BLOWN UP LIKE A BALLOON AND THE HEAVY DUTY NARCOTICS DID ZIP!. IT WASN'T TILL THEY RESTARTED MY PRE-OK MEDS THAT I STARTED FEELING LILE A HUMAN AGAIN. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!. I wanted to end it!. I went home on day 3 thank goodness!. I'm in control of my meds getting to me!. I did ok with liquids faster with bypass then I did with liquid post-op band. Transitioning to pureed, great, to good, not do much. I've gone back to fluid/pureed foods throughout and continuing cause one day I try a shredded chicken salad with mayo, celery (minute amt.), Chopped Green Apple, are VERY SLOWLY (as usual) and it was fine☺. That was last week (10 weeks post-op). The very next day, tried same thing, same speed...2 bites in STUCK, BURPING, NAUSEA, followed 45" later with thick mucus nemesis. GROSS!. I've already had a endoscopy, stretch the inlet and outlet a bit although the Surgeon said they weren't bad. He said something about the stomachblinds being folded over. I'm sitting in my bariatric surgeon's office right now, hopefully I'll learn some reason for all this nonsense! -

Have you called your doctor? The only place I had any sharp pain was my left mid quad. My doctor said most pts hurt there. However what you are describing sounds bad. I've never heard of having the option of removing the portion of the stomach. What were the risk/benefit ofc doing that? -
