  1. It only gets better from here! Congratulations!
  2. Because each one of us is unique, I am certain that some will disagree with me. The first thing I always dos when encountering a stall was to review my food log from the past couple of weeks, then do an honesty check. Was I really logging everything? I have a weakness for lifesaver wint-o-green mints, I wasn't logging them and they are 20 calories a piece. Then I work on eating slowly. My doctor insists that if you eat small (marble sized) bites, slowly over a 25 minute period, you will stay full for 5 1/2 hours. He says it takes that long for your stomach to tell your brain you are full. It really works. My doctor also does not believe in drinking your calories and that all Protein should come from food, not drinks. This is very controversial among WLS patients, but it has worked for me. I haven't had a Protein Drink since week 2 post-op. Then exercise, try to increase your exercise even if only by a few minutes. i don't know how often you weigh, but give yourself a couple of days between weigh-ins to help you avoid frustration! Good luck and keep us posted!

Revised from the VSG to the Bypass

Hi! It is still early, I wouldn't be concerned about weight loss at this point, but diarrhea seems unusual. I would check with your doctor or nurse, I wouldn't let it go too long, stay hydrated. Keep us posted!

I am so happy for you!! Congratulations! You should do something to celebrate!

    Ouch chest pain

You are too full. One of the reasons we have to eat slowly (painfully slowly) is because it takes a while for it to catch up. Sip slowly, when you start to eat wait 1 minute between each bite (marble size)

    flying after surgery

I don't think it is a problem, I flew 4 weeks out. Always check with your surgeon, he/she may have other thoughts!

    Feeling Down

Lisa, unfortunately I have had several day like this and it really isn't any fun. I have had to choose to not think about yesterday, last hour or last minute as there is nothing you can do, but learn from those mistakes. Focus on what you can do now, for the rest of today. It sounds silly, but so much of this is in our thoughts. You can learn to control them if you try. Feel better!

    4 DAYS UNTIL SURGERY

Wow! That is an awesome start and really shows your dedication to the process!

    4 DAYS UNTIL SURGERY

I never really got excited. It's kind of like going to the dentist, you know it will be good for you, but there will be some discomfort along the way. Over the last 17 months post-op though, I have learned a lot about myself and the one thing I found to be key to my success in this process is a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA). Every day isn't rainbows and unicorns, and some days are 2 steps forward and one step back, but you have to still count the step forward. There were weeks when I busted my butt to follow the rules with little or no success and there were weeks that I was sure I wouldn't have lost an ounce and I was down 3 lbs. What matters is that you dont let those bad times remain in your mind too long. Listen to the people in charge of your care, ask questions, and follow the rules and you will succeed. Please keep us posted!

Revised from the VSG to the Bypass

Hi! And welcome! My advice is to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon and nutritionist. When you start eating real food eat very slowly, don't drink at all before or after eating and start walking today! You will do great!

    Protein Only

My surgeon never said that. I am to eat, protein, then fruits and veg, then carbs. Absolutely no calories from liquids. The reason for eating carbs last is that that you will already be filling up and won't have much room left. I have eaten absolutely everything I have wanted after 7 weeks post op. I reached my goal weight at 16 1/2 months.

    Impatient!

Increase your exercise! It has always worked for me!
  15. I took a bunch of stuff to the hospital that I never used to include nightgowns and bathrobe, books and magazines. I would take a tooth brush, toothpaste, cell phone and charger and comfy stretchy clothes to go home in. They will give you everything else you may need.
  16. My advice is to take in as much information as possible, follow instructions and you will be fine. Do not worry about anything except for what you are supposed to be doing, a lot of people have horror stories that quite possibly will never happen to you! I was in the hospital on Tuesday am, home Thursday afternoon, back to work 5 days later. I never took a pain pill (my doctor doesn't believe in them) and I started exercising day 4 post op. I have never had vomiting or diarrhea I met my goal weight in 16 months and 18 days. I can do things now I never thought were possible, you will too! Good luck and keep us posted! All jewelry will have to come off, I don't know about your nails:)

    Lost 200lbs total

Congratulations! I met my goal s couple of weeks ago and am still really excited! You are doing great!
  18. Inner Surfer Girl - I wasn't equating protein with protein shakes, just stating what my doctor preaches that your protein and all other calories should come from whole food.
  19. Protein helps you stay "full" longer. My doctor does not allow protein shakes after the week 2 post-op stage as he believes your calories should come from real food, and that you should never get in the habit of drinking your calories.

    Work out videos

Best purchase I ever made was my nordic track i9 treadmill!
  21. I take 1000 mg of bariatric advantage calcium chews which have some vitamin d, I'm not sure how much though.
  22. The approach I took was to look at this as a tool, not an overnight miracle. I reached my goal weight by following the rules, the only time I didn't have success was when I didn't follow the rules. I exercised fairly regularly, but I had just as much success in weeks that I didn't exercise as when I did. So, it pretty much comes down to how much you put in your mouth. Follow the instructions and you will most certainly have success! Good luck to you!

    Puréed shmureed

Pancakes are soft, so I don't think you have to worry about safety. I will caution though, that it probably isn't your best food choice. Not much protein/nutrition for the calories. Not to mention the syrup and butter.
