    Do you count vitamin calories?

I think 800-1000 is too high for someone with a 5 oz stomach. My Fitness Pal is not set up for someone who had gastric by pass surgery. It is for the average person trying to lose weight. The purpose of the surgery is so you will eat less calories causing weight loss.
  2. I know each doctor is unique in their requirements, but I was only on protein drinks for the first two weeks at 4 oz, 2-3 times per day. Then soft food 1/4 cup 3 meals per day (about 300 calories). I am now 2 months post op and can eat regular meals usually no more than 500-600 calories per day. I also exercise 5-6 days per week.

How much time off from work?

I was walking on the treadmill the day I came home from the hospital and returned to work the one week later! I couldn't lift over 25 lbs for 4 weeks though! Bending and stooping wasn't a problem at all!

    Post Op meds

My surgeon didn't believe in pain meds, he doesn't believe in crushing pills either. I have been taking whole pills since coming home from the hospital!
  5. I fell down the steps 2 weeks after surgery, cracked my tail bone which still hurts 5 weeks later!
  6. I may not be typical, but I had a wonderful experience! The surgery was only mildly painful. I had some gas pains in the hospital, but left the hospital on no pain killers (as is my surgeons practice). I was walking on the treadmill the day I came home, I returned to work after only 1 week (2 weeks earlier than expected) I have thrown up once from vitamins and have had no dumping whatsoever! I have lost 41 lbs in 7 weeks, I have energy, I sleep well, and I can bend over and cross my legs. I have no regrets whatsoever! Good luck to you!

    Recovery advice

Well, I may not be typical, but I had a relatively pain free experience. My surgery was Tuesday 14 Oct 14 at 0800, I left the hospital around noon on Thursday. I had some gas pain in the hospital, which is quite painful, but by the time I went home, with no pain medication, I was fine. I returned to work 1 week later feeling really good. I started walking the day I came home from the hospital. My surgeon has a twenty five pound weight restriction until 4 weeks, but I think my purse weighs more than that and I had no problem carrying that. You will read some horror stories on here, but a lot of us had a really easy time of it too! Also, I have only thrown up once and that was from multivitamins, and no dumping at all. Good luck and please let us know how you are doing!

Feel like I'm going to explode

I think you should see your surgeon!
  9. I was told that the Protonix was to promote healing, the benefit of reducing acid was just a nice side effect, and to only take it for 90 days!

    Will water keep me fat?

Fluids go through the stomach, they don't stay there.
  11. I was told that taking the medicine was actually to promote healing, the acid reduction was an added benefit, 90 days only though!
  12. Eat really slowly, 1 marble sized bite per minute. You will find it much harder to over eat!
  13. I think I went to 1/2 cup at 3 weeks. However, I am supposed to take 1 marble sized bite per minute, which is very slow and makes sure you are full within like 15 minutes, which is usually just over 1/4 cup. Good luck
  14. So happy for you Beni, i know i sure feel so much better already!

    Do you snack?

My surgeon asked me to eat a light baby bell (50 calories) on the way home from work. He said that it will actually help my weight loss by ensuring I don't over eat at dinner. It also has something to do with the number of hours between my meals, I sm and work at 6 am and won't eat dinner until 5:30 or 6 pm

    Alcohol consumption

It is called transfer addiction, it can happen, it's just like people who quit smoking and start eating. I don't think surgery makes anyone do anything. Just monitor yourself snd you will be fine!

    Ready to Stop Crushing

I have been taking whole pills since the day I left the hospital! My surgeon doesn't believe it is necessary to crush or split pills.
  19. I agree with all of the above comments. I have lost 35.2 lbs in 7 weeks. My friend lost 100 lbs in four months so I am trying desperately to loose 14.8 more pounds in the next 12 days to keep up with her. I just want to be done! However, she had more weight to lose than I do, so it really isn't fair to compare. Let's just kep moving and celebrate the victories!

    Periods

I am seven weeks tomorrow and have been spotting daily, my surgeon says it's normal.

How fast do you drink your liquids?

I can not drink fast at all. Especially during or after exercise, it hurts. If it didn't hurt I would be certainly going it!

    After pain/bloating

I left the hospital without medication and no pain. I hope this passes for you soon!
  23. My surgeon does not allow liquids for forty five minutes after eating as that is how long it takes for your stomach to tell your brain you are full. You should be able to go 5 hours between meals, without hunger.

    Feeling defeated

I have been exercising pretty consistently sine the day I came home from the hospital, I just don't want this 18 month "window of opportunity" to close without doing everything I can to help myself. On the days I dont feel like I i commit to doing something even if it is one lap. Sometimes the days I feel the least like doing something seem to be the best workouts.
