Looking for December 2014 sleeve support/friends...
prez replied to CJSLEEVE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all, I was sleeved Dec 30, 2014 and pretty much failed. I was hoping the sleeve would curb my tendency to eat the wrong foods or eat too much and it did work for awhile in the beginning by making me vomit. I would then cut back. But, I fell back into old habits eating the wrong foods and I fear I have stretched my stomach back out because I can hold/eat about the same amount of food as I did before surgery. I have not lost any weight since about a month after surgery and it's been over a year now that I have been beating myself up because I felt this was my last resort. I know it's my fault. I haven't done much research if there is anything I can do about it now. I hope that anyone thinking about doing this surgery and feels they can 'work the system' to just get it realizes, like I do now, that you really need to change the way you eat for the rest of your life. I thought differently and failed. Glad to see others who have succeeded though! -
For all of you who are having gas bubbles, stomach pains, etc.. Have any of you been taking a PPI? I went through having the same conditions and felt I could not eat and sometimes when I did, I vomited. After taking a PPI for the past two weeks it has made a remarkable change. Give this a try. I have been taking Zegerid which is a capsule and it contains 20mg Omeprazole and 1100mg Sodium Bicabonate twice a day per my Surgeons recommendation. This brand PPI is pretty much instant and not a tablet time-released form like Prilosec. Oh, btw PPI stands for Proton Pump Inhibitor.

Maybe next time try making it the consistency of Soup. I love Instant Cream of Wheat but when I read they discontinued the sugar free (Splenda) I was so disappointed.

How is everyone doing on the pre-op diet? How much weight have you lost? 1 week and counting til us Dec 30th sleevers get it done! =) The one question I forgot to ask was how much weight should I lose during this pre-op diet. I did a search and it seems to range from 5-10 percent. I'm at 377lbs today so I'm on track for the 5% and I'm sure I'll hit at least 7%.

Can you share some ways of combining that help you feel full? My diet is supposed to be 4 shakes a day, servings of 1 starch, 2 fruit and 1 vegetable. Along with this the instructions say the following I could have "as needed" which included most all caffiene-free/sugar-free/dairy-free drinks and/or popsicles. I'm taking "as needed" to mean whenever I want. So, SHAKES: Most times I will throw in ice cubes and let it sit for a bit after I shake the crap out of it. What this does is introduce bubbles into the mix and it creates a more thicker illusioned drink and I think I am getting more than I am. You could also use a blender to do this and add the ice cubes later. Note though, you are NOT to be doing this after surgery. I'll then have a approved drink soon after to top me off or down a popsicle. STARCH/FRUIT/VEGETABLE: I sometimes add one of these after a shake. Or I eat the serving and then follow it with an approved drink/popsicle "as needed", lol. I've also been searching the web and finding so many places use the liver/body shrinking pre-diet in different ways. Some even allow solid Protein like lean meats as a serving. I'm gonna monitor myself very carefully during the latter part of the second week to make certain I'm following strictly what's needed. But, if my current weight loss is any indication, I must be doing something right. edit: I just tried something else too - the "as needed" list has fat free broth so, I used my 24 oyster crackers (starch) with the beef broth and had some diet cran pomegranate Ocean Spray juice for dinner tonight. I'm gonna try the broth with the serving of vegetables tomorrow. It's almost midnight now and I don't feel very hungry but, I'm going to have something to drink before I go to sleep.

Day 3 for me too on pre-op diet. Feeling good. Went for my bloodwork, anesthesiologist questions and urine test today and when they weighed me it showed I had lost 6lbs since last weeks weigh in, lol. I laugh because during the final week before the pre-op diet my Spouse and I hit up two buffets and I ate out almost every night; guess it didn't affect me much. 394lbs last week 388lbs today I'm finding ways to combine different parts of the liquid diet that seems to be keeping me feeling full for most of the day. I'm also taking advantage of the words "as needed" next to all the sugar-free drink/popsicle choices on my pre-op sheet to help me keep full too.

Ask your nurtitionist if they have any sample Protein, mine had unjury and they tasted ok. I ended up buy a bunch of 100% whey isolate from a website that had them on sale awhile back. I also went overboard and bought two 5lb protein tubs from Vitamin Shoppe online because they had their a buy one get one 50% off and the protein was rated very good on a bunch of bodybuilding sites. Do a Google search using the Protein powder you're considering and add the word taste and you will get results of people reviewing the taste of that protein. If you look at the web address of the link and see it's a bodybuilding/weightlifting site, chances are those folks have tried every whey protien powder under the sun. Today, I have some pre-op appointments - surgeon, nutritionist and surgeon's assistant. Sent myself text messages with a bunch more questions to ask =).
