I am right around 35/36 BMI (5'5 215lbs) and have AETNA - I was approved on the 1st try but I also have pretty severe Type II diabetes.

I don't think they can "tell" if you have quit, but I would suggest for the advantages of healing faster/easier due to the increased circulation, you would be helping yourself out if you quit. I am right now at 60 days out from today (1/15/15 date of surgery) and I have made the promise to myself and my kids that I will quit. Today is day one and I have not had a problem. I am not a heavy smoker, probably a pack a week, so its more of a habit than an addiction.

Jan. 15 for me! I am excited but nervous!

I am a "light" weight. 5'5 215-211 lbs. But I have Type II diabetes, which has already begun to take a toll on my kidney function. I am approved thru my insurance. I think my BMI is like 35-36 but with the co morbidity, I got approved. Most people don't think I look like I weigh that much, but I hide it well. I have been overweight my whole life and had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies. My other blood work is ok, (LDL is a little high) but I don't want to get worse. I also had to have a microdisectomy on L4-L5 this past April for a ruptured disc, so my back doc says a loss of 50+ pounds will do good things for my spine!!!

Congrats! I am scheduled for Jan. 15! I also work at a hospital in Tennessee. I also have AETNA and was a 1st try approval (I have Type II diabetes). I am excited, but so nervous!!!

My surgery date is Jan. 15 I am super excited!
