I had a surgery date before anything was submitted to insurance. It took 3 business days to get Aetna's approval. I received my approval letter after I was home from surgery.

Super lighheaded and exhausted
twittymilk replied to bonniegold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are getting your liquids in. Sounds like dehydration. The surgery won't make you lactose intolerant, either you were before surgery or you weren't. You probably cannot tolerate those foods yet, dairy is heavy. I would try again further out. Exhaustion is normal 1 week out, especially if you are not getting in enough fluids. -

Here is the link to Aetna Clinical Policy Bulletin on WLS. You cannot have a net weight gain http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html

I was drinking 2 liters of water a day before surgery. Now I can't drink 8oz. I've been mostly sticking to iced tea.

Telling your employer about surgery
twittymilk replied to jenc427's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only told my friends at work, did not tell my boss or my immediate team members. I just used by PTO time and scheduled the surgery around a long weekend to the additional time off. -

Shame in sharing WLS with friends/family?
twittymilk replied to PChayy05's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly you already know who will be supportive and who won't be. You know who is in your life and can hopefully accurately gauge their reactions. I told my immediate family because I knew they would supportive, I told a handful of friends and there are 2 I knew would be against it and of course I was right. I told only 3 co-workers and no one else at work they were extremely supportive even getting me a card on my first day back to work with a gift card for all the new clothes I will need. So all that to say go with your gut, you know who can depend on and who you can't. -
Sleeved May 18th and down 35lbs. So far so good.

It's absolutely gross. The chalk like after taste is the worst.

Adding the link for Aetna requirements. You don't need 2 years of weight history I was just sleeved in May and did not have that and was approved with no problems. http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html

I'm in Brooklyn born and raised. I was sleeved on 5/18 at Weill Cornell NYP. Down almost 30lbs. @@Bndtoslv who is your surgeon? -
I ended up on my belly a few days after surgery and was fine.

Headaches might be a sign of dehydration. If you keeping getting your fluids in you'll be ok there. Tiredness is my daily struggle, it's probably because I'm not getting in enough food and I have a heavy daily commute. I'm 30 some days out too and it does get better everyday. I can eat a little bit more, I can drink a little bit more and I am losing a bit more.

Drinking through a straw
twittymilk replied to vickylyn1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just had my follow-up and asked my nut about straws and she said if it helps it's ok to use. I would gauge your reaction to it, if it causes you a lot of gas or discomfort. I have no issues drinking from straws and I'm 5 weeks out. -
Crushed vs Whole Pills
twittymilk replied to jm726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks out today and I've been taking my big ole calcium horse pills with no problems since last week. I've been taking the smaller pills whole 4th day after surgery. Crushed pills are gross. -
Stall over down 3.4lbs Down 25.2 since surgery on 5/18.
-
Try Philips Milk of Magnesia should work in a few hours.
-
Sleeved 5/18 and I'm in a stall My 4 week appt is next Tuesday and hope to be down another 5, will be stepping it up workout wise.
-
I was sleeved on 5/18 and took advantage of the Memorial Day holiday since my job gives us a 4 day weekend and took a week and half off from work. I felt fine going back but did not really feel like myself until 2 weeks post op. I was really tired the first day back. Part of it is my commute I live and work in NYC and the subway life is pretty exhausting on a normal basis.

Timeframe - from decision to have surgery to getting surgery
twittymilk replied to flipper72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly 6 months. First appt with surgeon on 11/18 my insurance Aetna requires 3 months so tentative surgery was discussed for March. Well my PCP, my surgeon and me all extremely busy so ended up delaying it an extra 2 months. Was just sleeved on 5/18. -
