    I need to VENT!

Tomorrow I am on week 5. I read a post somewhere that said to dink 8 oz of water first in the day before trying to eat anything. Then wait 30 minutes and try some food. For the most part, this has served me well. Some days are just tough though. Hope this helps.

    Pizza?!?!

I am three weeks out of RNY. My wife bought a pie Saturday night-mushrooms and bell peppers. It smelled so good I couldn't stand it. I ate the toppings off of one piece-cheese and all. I chewed the heck out of it. I was full for 3 hrs. No ill effects. No crust though.

    Protien shakes

    Thanks. Your list looks delicious.
  4. Today is day 10 post op. I have lost 26 lbs since the surgery. This is my third day adding protein to my diet. Yesterday was the first day with no weight loss, but, I had to break our a pair of suspenders to keep my pants up. Walking more each day. Gonna stay away from the scale a couple of days.

    Suspenders

I think all of our paces on weight loss will be different. When I get discouraged, I go for a short walk. Best of luck

    Protien shakes

So,how are you getting your protein without the shakes?

    Very sore throat?

Call your doctor. You may have thrush. This is common after surgery. There is a rinse they can prescribe that will help with this. You don't want this to get too bad.

    What is pb2?

The p2b is very tasty. Try it with chocolate sugar free pudding.
  9. After over a year in planning and many health setbacks, I had my surgery Tuesday morning. When I registered at the hospital Tuesday morning, a lady came over to me. She said " I hope you don't think I am intruding, but what you are doing is the best thing you could ever do for your health-I know- I went through this two years ago and I am off all my meds and I feel better than I felt I decades". God bless her. She gave me the assurance I needed just at the right moment.

    Help liquid diet

It is difficult. My surgery is April 7. I try to think about each day and what I am allowed to eat and space it out. In between my protein shakes, etc, I drink lots of water. I try flavored water to mix things up. I can work from home but I prefer going to the office. I don't have to food temptations there. When my food desires get really strong, I gulp water and go for a walk. For me, this is Holy Week. I also offer up prayers for those with nothing to eat when I feel hungry. It seems to help. Peace to you and good luck.

    Feeling discourage

The surgery is about much more than just not being fat. It is more about being. This surgery is designed to give you a chance at a longer life with better quality of life. Good luck.
  13. This has been a year long journey for me. I had a January surgery date but I had a cancer scare- thank God all is ok on that front. With work schedule, I couldn't get a date that would work until April. This time- I hope the date sticks. I am ready to get better.

    Traveling

You might ask your company if they could pay you per diem for travel. Then go to a whole foods or a good grocery store to buy the good stuff. Even if they won't pay for it, you will be better off. Also- pack protein drinks, oatmeal, protein bars etc in your travel bag. You can skip dinner with coworkers - if they insist, meet up with them for a drink afterward and get water with lemon or a juice or something. Hard for even me to say it, but work needs to take second place for a while.
  15. Nice list. I might add make sure your living will is set up and your actual will is in order. As adults, we should all do this from time to time anyway. One additional item for me- I plan to take a two day retreat somewhere a couple of days before surgery. I hope to spend the time in prayer and also getting myself right with God and any of my family and friends. Looking forward to starting over with the new me- all the way around.
  16. How many of you have seen this movie? A friend watched it and told me he thought of me when he saw it. It is a documentary style movie about a work-a-holic businessman who put so much into his career, he put nothing into taking care of himself. He went on a juice diet for couple of months and lost a lot of weight. Well, I tried that approach and lost very little. That was one year ago. Today, I am healthier than one year ago, every bit as big, and am scheduled for surgery Jan 6. I am ready to get healthy. No more brand new diets,no more diet pills, no more gimmicks like juicing. Time to really get this under control.
  17. My surgery is Jan 6. My wife wants to buy me a new ring for Christmas. Does anyone know how much a ring size could change in the first year?should I ask her to hold off?
  18. Must be something to this-I have been told several times in the past two weeks to take care of my "health first". My surgery date is Jan 6. I am still nervousness about it, but feeling better would be a wonderful thing.

    Want to change surgeon

I don't know if you could speed this up by changing doctors, unless their is another doctor in the same practice who has an earlier open surgery date. I thought the same thing with my doctor. I wanted to do the surgery right now as work is slowing down. The office offered mid December but that is the busiest time for me. We will do this in January when things are slow again at work. This is frustrating for you. If you are comfortable with your doctor, I suggest you ask to see him again as soon as possible and ask again for a date this year- or ask to be put on a wait list. People do cancel these surgeries. Schedules can change. If you change drs- ask if your tests so far would work. I have seen on this board people who get insurance approval and less than two weeks later they have the surgery. It all depends on how busy the dr is or the practice. You might call your insurance company as well to see what would happen if you changed doctors to your approval process.
  20. Thanks for the relies. This all makes sense to me. I am right at 300 lbs. I don't know how much I will lose but 210 would be awesome. Haven't been there for 30 years. I may asks her to wait until July 4 for the ring. My surgery is Jan 6.
  21. How long does it typically take to schedule the surgery after insurance has been approved? I am a little frustrated.

    Surgery Date-January 8, 2015

Yes hello and congratulations. I am scheduled for Jan 6 here in Ohio.
  23. I wanted to buy a new pair of jeans for my birthday- maybe a nice, stylish pair. Hard to find jeans that fit. Most major retailers think I don't exist. Grateful for good old plain Walmart. Their jeans are as basic as they get, but they fit- I hate buying cloths because there are always very limited selections. My friends think I have no sense for fashion- I do but I am very limited. Well, yesterday was my last fat birthday 55-by my 56 birthday, I will be able to shop at Macy's, Kohl's-wherever I want, God willing. My surgery looks to be Jan 6. Maybe next year I will buy a pair of skinny jeans????. Prayers and peace to all.

    Last fat birthday

Thanks for the response. Nice birthday! Good luck with your surgery
  25. It is a good idea to look at the condition of your soul prior to a major life changing event like WLS. I believe that our soul is eternal-goes on forever. Our bodies are temporary. I plan to go on a retreat a few days prior to my surgery. I want to get right with God. If the surgery goes well, I will have, Lord willing, a strong mind, strong body, and strong soul. Please pray for me- my surgery date is Jan 6- I will pray for you. Peace! Greg
