  1. Yes. It sometimes feels like the never ending story. An office forwards test results to your primary doc instead of your WLS doc who is five doors down I. The same building, someone writes down the wrong place you had an ultrasound delaying things five days, they make you wait ten days for an appointment which turns our to be, pay me $150 to schedule your date, checks won't do, and to explain you need to pay what your insurance won't before surgery-all could have been handled on the phone. Unnecessary delays. All of this has pushed my date to mid December, which I said all along, since March, that I cannot do because of church and work responsibilities-pushing me to January- oh- that's right- I start over with deductibles and co pay with the new year. Lord willing, though, next year this time I will be breathing better and feeling better. I am ok with the timeframe now-a little frustrated, but at least I have a scheduled date-Jan 6. I guess I will use the extra time to exercise more and to prepared myself better for my new life. Peace to all.

    Anyone in Ohio?

Hello- Summa has a support group in Akron. I think they meet on the last Wednesday of each month. I am in the Akron area too. Where did you have your surgery? Link to Summa Bariatric below: http://www.summahealth.org/surgicalservices/bariatricsurgery/educationsupport/bariatricsupport

    Low temp

Don't mess around. Call your doctor.
  4. Has anyone changed jobs after surgery and tried to get health insurance? I know Cobra is available, but what happens when Cobra runs out? Does Bariatric surgery make it more difficult to get health insurance on your own?
  5. Hard to believe it, but there are health care professionals who speak before they think. When I went in for cardio clearance, the nurse asked me "whatever happened to diet and exercise?" The doctor was much more supportive. He told me he fully supports WLS for me and if I begin to doubt the decision, ask myself the consequences of not having the surgery. I go in Monday to schedule a date. Good luck.

    Frustrated

In my experience, you need to stay on top of your doctors team. They have a lot of patients and at this time of year, everyone is trying to get their surgery in before the end of the year (insurance deductibles). The squeaky wheel gets the grease....

    No surgery dates till January!

You might ask agIn if you can have this surgery this year-if you had as many tests as I have had, it would be friendlier to you from an insurance deductible perspective. I would use that approach-it will cost you more after the first of the year because you would have to start all over with deductibles. Also ask to be on a waiting list. Things happen- people get the flu, etc. good luck I hope this helps.
  11. I have been approved for surgery, but no scheduled date yet. I would like to start sampling some of the protein drinks/shakes, etc to see what I like and get stocked up prior to surgery. Does anyone have favorites that you could share? Thanks.
  12. My surgery is coming up before the end of the year. Once you have made your mind up to do this, pray for the courage to do this. I also pray for the doctor and all the health care people who will be working on me and I pray for my family, friends, and co- workers who will be by my side during recovery. In the words is St Padre Pio-"pray, hope, and don't worry".

    Time off work?

Smiley-how did you do on the plant? My doctors seem to suggest it should be ok. I travel by plane at least 3 times a month.

    Dining out with coworkers?

Brian: my insurance has approved my surgery and I should have it in the next six weeks or so. I too travel a lot for work- can you tell me how and when you got back to the traveling? How about flying? Thanks! Greg

    Time off work?

My surgery looks like it will be late November. I am thinking two weeks but work from home for a couple of more weeks. Bigger question- I travel by plane often for work- how soon can I start jumping on planes?
