SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
kathy078 replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
was sleeved on 9/24 At my heaviest I am down 177 pounds and since surgery 75 pounds. Would have been more but I have not made many good choices this summer. Now that summer is over and hopefully weather cooler I need to walk more and make better food choices. At least I haven't gained weight. Oops I meant 107 pounds, probably should have checked first. Wish it was 177 pounds -

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

I have lost 53 pounds since surgery 9/24/14, 71 pounds since last March, and 94 pounds from my heaviest two years ago. I lose about 2 pounds a week now, my NUT (1/6/15) says I am ahead of where I should be, I thought I should have lost more! But slow and steady is how to go. Had a friend who was sleeved, lost her weight really quickly. At 40 she looks mid 50s. She looks like those pictures of what drugs and alcohol does to your looks! I really do need to drink more Water. -
how long did your insurance approval take?
kathy078 replied to Tdarbey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine took 4 weeks, after which they denied surgery. When I spoke to the surgeon's office they had already appealed it and it was approved the next day. I have Cigna which usually takes the longest for approvals. -
Lying about what type of surgery..

GingerDiane, I had an endoscopy. Not a big deal. No after effects from the anesthesia or the procedure. -

Just tell them you are having laparoscopic surgery. HIIPA laws prevent them from questioning you. And this is not an easy way out, it takes dedication and control. Plus I am only losing 1 to 3 pounds a week which you can lose if you are sticking to a diet. The only one in my family that knows is my daughter. My husband and son do not know because they are the ones who believe it's the easy way out. -
Disappointed with weight loss progress
kathy078 replied to KiteeVA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a chart from the surgeon with projected weight loss at certain intervals. 2 month weight loss is 60 pounds and 6 months is 100 pounds. This is specific to me. Well it's been 11 weeks and I am down 37 pounds, nowhere near the 60 pounds. The worst part was I lost 18 pounds in 12 days and from there I either stalled or lost a pound her and there. I was becoming obsessive with the scale. I am down to 2 days a week and really trying for at least once a week. At first I just felt I was one of those failures. Now I just realize I am going to lose weight slowly. When I track my weight from my heaviest two years ago I am down almost 80 pounds. I have to get into the mindset that I weigh 37 pounds less than I did on September 24th and 80 pounds less than a year ago. -

Beagle Lover, I have to disagree, Even though someone is overweight does not mean they are not healthy. I am 58 years and have always been healthy even at my heaviest. I have never had any problems with my health, my cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, EKG's (which at a certain age become part of your physical), stress test, nuclear stress test have always been in the normal range. You can be overweight and healthy the same as you can be thin and unhealthy. -
5 months out...tortoise or the hare?

I am feeling the same way. Somedays I wonder if I will be the one who fails. At my 12 day post op check in I was down 18 pounds. Then it went downhill from there. At my 6 week check up with the nutritionist I was down 28 pounds and felt like a failure. The scale wasn't moving. The nutritionist said I was doing everything right and losing weight like I was supposed to. Before surgery I had a positive attitude, every pound lost was great, now my attitude is, that's it!. If I look at it overall I am down 33 pounds since surgery, 75 pounds from my heaviest in 2012. My worst enemy is the scale that I seem to always be stepping on. I am down to weighing myself twice a week and really need to go once a week. -

It's funny I had laproscopic surgery years ago where the pain and nauseau were so bad when I woke up . This past March I had major surgery, cut from belly button down (bariatric surgery put on hold). Amazing enough I wasn't nervous for that surgery. Then I was finally approved for bariatric surgery on September 24th. I still can't believe I wasn't nervous about that surgery either. The worst part for me was just before surgery they had a hard time finding a vein for the IV, tried several places in my left and my right. Ended in my right arm which I am not a fan of, Then they take my blood pressure after all of this ( I was told at pre-op testing my blood pressure couldn't be high or they could cancel surgery). Amazing enough my blood pressure was low, 110/68. I also had to wear these thigh high compression tights, worse thing ever to put on. I couldn't believe I had no pain this time, not in the hospital, not when I got home. I did not take any pain meds. Once you are called into surgery and they give you the IV, the medication relaxes you. I just remember the long ride to the OR room and on the table in the OR room. I think I was out in about three minutes. If you get sick from anesthesia, which is usually from the pain meds, ask for an anti nausea patch, works really well. -

I have been in a stall since October 10th. I agree it's so discouraging. The scale just doesn't move. I see the nutritionist next Wednesday, hopefully by then I will start losing again. -
September Sleevers....whatcha eat in' now?
kathy078 replied to auntjanny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can eat most anything, chicken, Turkey, and tougher seem to be the easiest. Ground beef, not so much, my stomach hurts for about half hour afterward. I did have tuna in a sandwich a couple of times. Ate a little less than half at lunch. Nibbled on the rest in the afternoon. For breakfast, eggs are fine and I also have Nature Valley protein cereal which has 10 grams of protein. Pork and fish aren't a problem either. -
