Leg/ankle swelling six days after surgery
jenbaby75 replied to maier_la's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk to the doc, swelling in the legs can be a blood clot. I am sure it isn't, but better safe than sorry. I got one after ankle surgery, it really frightend me. I panic anytime I have calf pain. -
My body doesn't get rid of the general anesthesia meds as quickly as most people do. I had ankle surgery 12/31/12, it took a little more than 3 weeks for my head to feel halfway normal. It doesn't make me sick, it just takes every ounce of my energy away. I will be up and moving, what I need is help with the kids, especially my baby, he is used to being played with and held, by his mama. My hubby works swing shift, so he is gone most of baby's awake time. When he goes back to work, we will just spend the evenings with my parents, or we will all stay there.

Thank you! That makes me feel a ton better!! I will have a week of solid help, and then another week of good help also!

My youngest will be 13-14 months when I am sleeved. I am really worried about caring for him after my 2nd week post op. Hubs is taking a week off, then my mom will help. But it will be rough. I am the primary caregiver.

They will find somethjng to give you. Most pain meds are meant to take your mind off the pain, and help you sleep. The docs will know what to give you.

I find that if I don't have enough protein on a diet, I don't lose. I did medifast, and lost 60 pounds, but I had to eat extra protein. And lots and lots of water.

I lurk here, and watch you tube vids from veteran sleevers, who documented their journies. Vsg kirk is probably my fave. Then there is lessofsarah, sleeved franklin, katie vsg. It is really helpful to see them before, after, and beyond. It keeps me somewhat sane, and prepares me for what can happen, good and not so good. I also have 2 friends that had it, so I ask them tons of questions.

jenbaby75 replied to babelfish5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay, seriously, a pound of muscle, weights the same as a pound of fat. A pound is equal to a pound. -
Calling January Sleever????
jenbaby75 replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just look so bad in clothes, I seriously quit caring what I look like. I am so upset with myself, I had lost 50 pounds, before having ankle surgery, developing a dvt from that, and then getting pregnant..unexpectedly, all within 3 months. I was starting to look good in my clothes again, not thin by any means, just better. Then, I was doing pretty good 3 weeks post partum, fitting in pre-preggo clothes. Then, Idk what happened Too much food, not enough movement. January can't get here fast enough. i love this forum. -
Calling January Sleever????
jenbaby75 replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely refuse to buy new clothes until I am sleeved. I may purchase some cozy jammy pants, maybe a couple of tank tops to wear around the house. That is it. I will waste no more money on this fat body. A recent full body shot of myself is enough motivator for me. I had a baby Christmas Eve 2013. I literally gained weight breast feeding. I weigh as much as i did when i delivered him. At 39, I am done being fat, done with my back hurting..done with missing out on life. Well, that turned into a rant. Sorry. I guess I have some things I need to get off the old chest. LOL -
HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THEIR SLEEVE BEING STRETCHED?
jenbaby75 replied to downsizingdiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just described me perfectly. I am an over-eater, not a food addict. I don't have a soda addiction, or feel like I will panic if I cannot eat certain foods. I over eat when I am bored, lonely, angry, happy, etc. my hope is the sleeve will help keep me from over eating. -
I finally hit the stall
jenbaby75 replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A pound of muscle weighs the same amount as a pound of fat. If you are exercising, it is possible you are gaining muscle. I found when I hit stalls on low calorie, high protein, low carb diets (I haven't had the sleeve yet) upping my protein helped the numbers go down, a lot when I was exercising. I bet you are losing inches, even though the scale says you gained. -

Truly don't know what to do
jenbaby75 replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, I realize that we all are having, or have had this surgery to lose weight, amd completely change our relationship with food..but have you considered trying either a regular old milkshake (a small one) with protein in it, or maybe of cold is an issue, hot chocolate with protein? Just to get your protein in. Sometimes, you have to ingest what you will tolerate, especially if you are starting to feel down. I have done so much reading about the post op, that I am sure what you are experiencing will get better, in the meantime, find something you can tolerate, and go with it. Your mental health is important too. Keep your chin up. -

It doesn't prevent blood clots, it catches them. Lovenox injections should prevent blood clots from dislodging and travelling to your lungs or brain, and coumadin/warfarin keeps your blood "thin." It is common to develop DVT after a traumatic surgery. Make sure you walk as much as possible after surgery..movement is the best thing, and keep hydrated the best you can. i developed a clot in my calf after ankle surgery (most likely due to the surgeon not having me remove my birth control). It was awful. Very painful, and extremely frightening. I was fortunate, and mine completely went away with treatment, but it was time consuming.

How to deal with fat friends
jenbaby75 replied to built2livenotexist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am also struggling with who I will tell. I will likely have the sleeve in Jan. I have told my parents, my husband, and 3 of my best friends, 1 of which is obese. Everyone seems supportive now. I am a little worried about how all the changes will affect my friendships, but at the same time, if the people that love me, cannot support me, and be happy for me, then they weren't really in my corner at all. If I am only good to them when I am down, then what kind of people are they? At this point, I feel like I will tell most of my nearest and dearest, the rest, well, diet and exercise. -
Case Manager - did you have one?
jenbaby75 replied to Kate M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgical center has a coordinator. She is awesome. Calls to check on me, my progress, is there to answer any questions I have. I was referred to the office by 2 good friends, so I expected good things. -
This is a great group! My experience with online groups is they are full of trolls and unicorns. I have a 10 month old baby, and am the women on the baby board, at least in the Dec 13 group..are nasty. I have seen some nasty things go down. It's so sad. I love how helpful, and compassionate everyone is on here.

Anyone else turning into an a-hole
jenbaby75 replied to kenb79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have heard that after the weight is lost, there can be anger. Anger at the way people treat you different now that you are thin. Anger at the way people may speak about "fat" people. We cannot control how rude and shallow ignorant people are, but we can control The way we conduct ourselves, and deal with that anger. Talk to someone about your feelings. We don't have to let people walk on us, but we don't have to be assholes either. -
I cant stop thinkng about it.
jenbaby75 replied to Chelsea E's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am unable to have the surgery until after the first of the year due to needing to change insurance plans. My bariatric center, called in October to get all my preops done before January, so I will just have to have my stuff submitted to insurance, then be able to schedule. I would start now, all the testing can take time!! -
Can you have Powerade Zero? It really helps with the carb/sugar withdrawal headaches. Pickle juice works too, but not many people want to drink that.
