Problem with health care costs in US
jenbaby75 replied to nprcowboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Obamacare is killing the little guys. It may give people mediocre care, but it's destroying the mom & pop pharmacies, that treat their patients like real people, rather than a number. -
I was told popcorn basically dissolves, so it is not a good idea to sit down with a lot of it.

I will never understand how grown-ups can behave so childishly. If it offends you, don't look at it. One of the problems with social media is that it gives people the idea it's okay to act like the world should revolve around their views. Running to an admin, to tattletale on something harmless, you find offensive, is very elementary school. Let's all be adults here. I am not into anal myself, but I certainly am not offended other people are.

I hooked myself up, nobody had to come do it, they told me how to hook it all up.

I was able to do my sleep study at home, due to having an infant. It was awful. I do not sleep well when I am uncomfortable. I would not have been able to sleep at the sleep center.

Pregnancy after the sleeve
jenbaby75 replied to jcbrittain2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read it is best to wait 18 months-2 years. Your body needs to heal, so it can nourish itself and the baby. -
I loved my nuvaring. No side effects. Insertion was a bit intimidating, but the pill made me very very sick. I had no weight gain, didn't have to remember to take a pill, and could make it so I didn't have a period every months. I totally recommend it.

Preop birth control restriction
jenbaby75 replied to mrsvw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely be checking on that. I had ankle surgery 2 years ago, and the surgeon didn't have me stop bc, I developed a blood clot. I had a Nuvaring. I can never use regular bc again. In fact, I ended up pregnant 4 months later. I now have a 19 yr old, 12 yr old, and a 13 month old. (Born Christmas Eve) Bottom line, blood clots suck, big time. -
For the 1st time in my life, my vit d was low also. Which struck me as odd, I had massive bloodwork done May 2013, and all my numbers were good. I had a baby Dec 24, 2013..everything seemed to tank. I take 50,000, yes fifty THOUSAND, units of vit d, twice a week. It will be interesting to see what my final preop labs are.

I`m so ready for this, my weight really is my misery!
jenbaby75 replied to EnglishDan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand. My weight has become such a burden, physically, and emotionally. I found out insurance approved the sleeve, Jan 9, so I am waiting on the Surgical Center to call and schedule my surgery. I am going insane waiting. I need to get on that losers bench. I have kids I want to live a long life for. I want to enjoy my life, rather than spend it wishing I felt good enough to do anything, or wonder how much walking will be involved. I am done being FAT. -

Chose to tell another close friend...
jenbaby75 replied to allyray's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that there is a fear because bypass has had so many issues, and not always right away. My own family doc was relieved when I said I wanted to get sleeved, that he has had 2 of his patients die after bypass. The sleeve is new, and people just do not know about it, or don't know much about it. -

I failed myself yet again...

I have to agree with cowgirljane. Anxiety doesn't bred rational decisions or thoughts, it does exactly the opposite. -
For those of you who don't know your date...

I am hoping for beginning to mid feb. I wanted it done in January, but ins approval was just done. I am waiting for the surgeon's office to call and schedule. -
I would start teaching them to stay off of you now, or training them to lay on your legs if you want them on you. I would be concerned about their hair and dander getting in your incisions. I have dogs, they shed. We had to retrain our small dog before our baby came, to stay off the bed and couch.

They will give you meds for anxiety before you go in to the OR. The anestesiologist comes and talks to you, at that point, ask for something to calm you down. -
I failed myself yet again...

I have found that many of us who are overweight, have control issues. Food=control & fat=disguise, for many of us who feel out of control in other aspects of our lives. That is not all of us. For me, the decision to have wls didn't come lightly. I have 3 children, and am just tired of being fat, and tired. The issue is not losing the weight, that isn't a problem at all. The issue is KEEPING it off. My surgeon explained that most of us can lose no problem, but more than 90% of us will regain the loss, plus additonal pounds. My choice to do this has nothing to do with the loss (that's a bonus) and everything to do with keeping it off, and living a long, healthy, active life for my family. In order to do that, I have to let go of my relationship with food. This is not something that should be done of you are unsure. I know there are things I will miss eating large amounts of, but I also know that I don't want diabetes, I don't want to die young due to obesity related complication. You simply do not see old fat people. I want to get old. -

Dreams STOMPED by my insurance company

Depending on your emoloyer with BCBS, you can switch to ppo, and it is covered if medically necessary, with very few hoops. We have Boeing BCBSil, and had to switch plans, all I had to do was see a nut, a psych, and that is it. I just found out I was approved. -

Odd food question.
jenbaby75 replied to catlover2565's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try thinnng the refrieds with a little milk, or water. Mexi restaurants frequently use milk -
The surgeon removed the part of your tummy that is the stretchiest. The issue is less about that, and more about where your calories come from. You need to be focused on protein, and water. You will be able to eat food soon enough. Try not to fall into bad habits now. I imagine it is really tough, but you can do it!!
