October 14th is the date
CafeCathey replied to cdenney123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my RNY bypass on Tuesday 10/14/14 @ 10am and was released to come home Wednesday @ 5pm. I was not in any pain after surgery and was able to do 4 laps around the nurses station about 2 hours after surgery. I had a drain which the Dr. removed before discharge. I have only been drinking water and protein shakes. So far 2 shakes a day for about 47-48 grams of protein. My water intake has been right around the recommended 64 ounces. Still using pain medication for slight abdominal discomfort, once or twice a day. My Dr. appointment is Monday and at that point I should be able to move on the soft food. Even with all the information out there I still seem to have so many questions! Everyones experience seems to be sooooo different. So far everything for me is going well. (and I did just knock on wood). -
Good luck today everyone. Tuesday 10/14 is my day. Very excited.

I'm the 14th and I'm ready!! -
So this is a little about me......I am a 50 year old female who is 5'8" and currently weighing in at 296. I have had issues with my weight as long as I can remember. My surgery will be Tuesday October 14th. The call came today that everything has been finalized. When starting this process I wasn't sure that I would go through with it. Meeting with the doctor and educating myself on the procedure has helped me make my decision. Along with reading encouraging and succsess related posts from the weight loss community. In preperation I have been cleaning and organizing. Did a deep dive into the pantry and got rid of everything on the "no" list. Cleaned the fridge and freezer as well and feel like I am set up for success. Fortunately for me my husband will adapt to my new and healthier lifestyle. He has done it about 20 times in the last 20 years so it is not something new for him. The success that I anticipate will be a new experience however. My prep diet has been going well. Breakfast and lunch are protein shakes with dinner being a healthy meal of lowfat protein and veggies. Monday will be my day for only clear liquids.

Nutri-bullet? Which food processors work best?
CafeCathey replied to NicoleSW's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
for making shakes I use a product called the Tribest personal blender. it is small light weight and does a great job for shakes and smoothies. i have also traveled with it. It comes with different accessories depending on which package you purchase. Price range $45-$90. I think it does alright on ice, i usually just use a little bit of frozen fruit and it does a great job on that. -
Pre-op protein drinks/food
CafeCathey replied to gwunderle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi G, The only one I have tried is the Orgain. It is available at Costco in chocolate for $29.99. It is a veg protein and has 21 grams per serving. I like the taste and texture. The vanilla is available at the Vitamin Store. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 14. Pre surgery diet is protein drink for breakfast and lunch and a low fat low carb sensible dinner. The day before surgery is all liquid. I mix the protein powder with almond milk and usually add some frozen berries and some chia seeds to up the protein. I'm not a milk drinker and wanted to avoid the milk proteins as much as possible. My current weight is 296, I am 5'8" and 50 years old. -
Anyone use bcbs IL?
CafeCathey replied to jenbob220's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is 10/14/14, BCBS IL is my insurance provider, I don't have my final approval but I don't expect any problems. Not exactly sure who needed what (Dr. or ins. co.) I had a psychological evaluation, EGD, letter of medical necessity, weight loss history and EKG. My surgeon seemed to think BCBS IL was pretty good to work with. -

CafeCathey replied to NOLAGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning NOLAGal, My surgery is scheduled for October 14, 2014. The only people have have discussed my surgery with are my husband and my best friend. This is my first time joining an online community. I think it will be important for me to have the support of others. I turned 50 last December and really wanted to make a fresh start. I'm looking forward to following your progress.
