I'm 3 weeks post-op and here's one of my favorite recipes: Magic Crust Quiche Ingredients 2 cups 1% Lowfat Milk 1/2 cup All-purpose flour 5 large Eggland’s Best eggs 3 slices Sargento 2% Reduced Fat Pepper Jack cheese slices (cut or torn into small pieces) 3 slices Sargento 2% Reduced Fat Swiss Cheese slices (cut or torn into small pieces) 1/2 cup Sargento Sharp Cheddar 2% Reduced Fat Cheese shreds 7 oz. Grilled chicken tenders diced small 1/4 cup Cooked red bell pepper diced small 1/4 cup Cooked Vidalia or sweet onion diced small Preheat oven to 350˚. In a blender or NutriBullet, mix eggs, milk and flour until blended, season with salt, pepper or whatever you’d like. Pour into a bowl and add all cheeses, cooked veggies and cooked meat. Stir to combine and then pour into an 8”x8” or 9”x9” square glass dish. Bake for 60 minutes. Let stand 5-10 before serving. You can add whatever cheeses, veggies or meats suit your taste. The small amount of flour firms up the sides and bottom making the “magic crust” while saving tons of calories. The Nutrition Facts are based on recipe above. FYI - the heavier meats, ie. ground beef tend to fall to the bottom. Serving size is approximately 2”x2 1/2” Nutrition Facts Servings 12 Per serving: Calories 120 Protein 12g Fat 5 g Cholesterol 92 mg Sodium 128 mg Potassium 145 mg Total Carbohydrate 7 g Sugars 2 g

Love my NutriBullet but hate the foam as well. Here's what I've learned. Just take a long handled spoon and stir it after blending. The foam dissipates almost immediately. Couldn't live without my NutriBullet!

@@KalelsWifey So happy you got your staples out! Bet you can't wait to get to onederland Yesterday was day 15 post-op for me and I made my magic crust quiche. It was super delish and I was so excited to get to chew something. It didn't upset my new tummy either, which is a win-win. I started my 2 week pre-surgery diet April 7th so it's been a while since I've had real food - LOL! Today I went to lunch with one of my girlfriends at a breakfast/lunch place. I ordered an omelette with all natural white meat chicken, sauteed onions, roasted red peppers and low fat Swiss cheese. I only ate 1/4 of it but it was so tasty. I brought the rest home with the home style potatoes and English muffin which my hubby will eat. The waiter was like, "Do you not like your meal?" I laughed and said, "Oh no, it's quite tasty I'm just not very hungry at the moment". So fat the only thing that hasn't agreed with me was the tomato soup.

What are your daily totals?

@@Djmohr - interesting! Of course you are much further along than I. I'm looking forward to this Thursday when I begin week #3 and the "mechanically altered" stage of my diet. I'll be making my Magic Crust Quiche and it will be so nice to finally chew something for a change. Haven't done that since April 5th! Best of luck on your continued success! -
My bypass surgery was performed at Mayo Hospital where I live in Jacksonville, Florida, April 21st and I came home April 22nd. Just curious what daily parameters you were told to stay within. How many calories, Protein, carbs, fats and sugars? We were told 400-600 calories, at least 60 grams of protein and low fat and low sugar liquids/foods. Here's what my days 3-11 have averaged so far: Calories 458, Protein 62, Carbs 25 g, Fats 14 g and Sugars 9 g. I'm feeling amazing

@@OregonTeacher sounds like a great deal! I had a Magic Bullet but wanted something more powerful. The NutriBullet has a high torque 900W motor and comes with a 32 oz. colossal cup so I can mix more than one serving at a time. That's a huge time saver for me. It also came with 2 - 24 oz. cups and an 18 oz. cup with lids, handles and even a nice little cooler. It will burst open seeds and crack through stems so I'm looking forward to using it in the future to insure I get my raw veggies, chia seeds, etc. in before I'm able to actually eat salads again. I'll be using it next week for the first time to make my Magic Crust Quiche, so I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes

I guess 4 weeks post-op is the protocol here at Mayo. @@KalelsWifey - I don't have staples. I was sewn from the inside and they put surgical glue on the outside. The glue came off a couple of days ago and my incisions are barely noticeable. I have no pain and feel amazing! Yesterday I started my week 2 menu (thick pourables) and have added a coconut & vanilla yogurt smoothie (2 Dannon Lite & Fit coconut vanilla Greek yogurts + 1/2 cup Premier vanilla protein shake in the NutriBullet makes 4 servings) that is to die for. Today, while at Sam's Club, I picked up the 2 pack container of Panera Bread Loaded Baked Potato soup. I mixed 1 cup soup with 1 cup 1% milk in my NutriBullet which makes 4 - 1/2 cup servings. I had 1/2 cup for lunch and it was so delicious. I don't know what I'd do without my NutriBullet. My caloric intake has been averaging around 475 and I'm easily getting 61-63 grams of protein every day I track all my meals with My Fitness Pal. They have a wonderful Recipe tab where you can put in ingredients and make your own recipes. Then they do all of the nutrition calculations for you. Week 3 I go to a mechanically altered diet. Then I will make my Magic Crust Quiche. I put all of the ingredients in yesterday and a serving will yield: calories 126, protein 11 g, fat 6 g, carbs 7 g, sugar 2 g sodium 116 mg. I'd love to hear if anyone else has any tasty recipes. This is our new lifestyle and I want to live it to the fullest!!!

My surgery was April 21st but my first post-op isn't until May 26th. Is that what most of you have experienced? I just can't believe how wonderful I already feel.

Hi ladies! So happy to see this thread for gals of our distinction. I'm 53 and had bypass surgery Tuesday, April 21st at 8:00 a.m. at Mayo Hospital where I live in Jacksonville, FL. I was on the 2 week Optifast liquid pre-op diet, which I had fun with and loved. Let me know if you want any tips in making it easier and most importantly tastier! My surgeon was quite pleased with my 15 lb. weight loss. I was so excited about my surgery that I was cracking jokes and having fun with everyone as they prepped me for surgery. I didn't have a worry in the world. My surgeon told me that because I'd done so well on the pre-op diet, my surgery only took 2 hours instead of 2 1/2 hours as he'd previously planned. Once I arrived in my large plush room, my husband, son and parents were there to greet me. I was trying my hardest to converse with them but all I wanted to do was sleep thanks to the anesthesia. The three guys went and visited on the couch/bed and my mom sat in the recliner and we talked a bit. I finally convinced them all to go home and I'd call them later. Once I woke from my drug induced nap, I woke and honestly I barely had any pain. I was walking by late afternoon and that was great. I never had much gas in the way of burping or tooting as many have. I was told by my surgeon that the CO2 they pump our abdomens with is dissipated through our blood. That's why it's so important to walk, walk, walk because it gets our blood flowing. I also had the pressure cuffs on my legs the whole time I was there. When asked by my nurse what my pain level was on a scale of 1-10, mine was never higher than a 2. She'd inject a lil something in my IV and all was good. That story changed that first night when the nurse's aid came in to "strip" my drain. My drain had been emptied throughout the day and it was no problem. When he stripped it I thought I was going to come off the bed. It felt like someone was literally pulling my artery out of my left collar bone and I thought I was going to die. I have a very high tolerance for pain and I was crying like a baby. It even left me sore. The next morning when the nurse did it, it hurt again, but at least not for as long. When my surgeon came to visit I asked him why it hurt so darned bad and he said because the drain loops up underneath the diaphram. Anyways, I was glad when he pulled it out! I passed my swallow test and then my blenderized meal that afternoon so I was discharged the day after surgery around 6 p.m. They sent me home with a prescription for percocet and some nausea med. We filled them and I was glad to be home. I took a pain pill at bedtime, two the next day and then I was finished with them. I've been totally pain free since Saturday and my incisions look amazing. They were sewn shut from the inside and then glued on the outside and most of the glue has already faded away. I've been able to get my 60 grams of Protein in every day with no problem at all. I drink 2 Premier Protein shakes (30g each) per day and 2 - 4 oz. servings of Campbells cream of chicken Soup (1 can + enough Water to make 16 oz. in my Nutribullet). I have a chronic nerve condition so I'm mixing meds 3 times per day with applesauce, so that adds about a 1/4 cup to my daily caloric intake. My typical day so far is: 474 calories, 62g protein, 17 fat, 26 carbs, 7 sugar, 10 Fiber. I'm on this pourable liquid diet for 1 week, week 2 thick pourable shakes, yogurt, etc. and then week 3 is mechanically altered foods: small distinct pieces of tender and easily chewed food low in fat and sugar. meat must be ground or flaked. Then there are stages 4 & 5. Mayo is very thorough with their protocol. I know to always lead with protein and my goal is to get my 60g's every day! I went to lunch with my girlfriends yesterday and took a little cooler with my Protein shake in it. When the waitress asked what I'd be having for lunch I said "A pretty glass with a couple of cubes of ice please". She brought me just that and I enjoyed time with my friends. We also went to Starbucks later and I enjoyed another 4 oz. of my protein shake. I'm full of energy and already feel this lifelong decision I've made is the BEST one I've ever made!!! I wish the best of luck to all my fellow April buddies and for those who've yet to have surgery, you are going to be so happy

Protein Shakes - 2 weeks post op
beachgal2935 replied to leag78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
These flavored liquid Stevia drops will change the way your average Protein shakes taste and the flavors are all natural, calorie and sugar free! So far I've tried English toffee, pumpkin spice, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla creme, root beer and valencia orange. They made my 2 week pre-op Optifast shakes super delish. Give them a try! -

I lost 15 lbs. on my 2 week pre-op. I had 5 Optifast shakes per day and no food. I loved it because I made it interesting. I chose the pre-made shakes over the powder because to me they tasted better. The keys to my success were flavored liquid Stevia, coffee, chai tea and my Nutribullet! If I was cold, I'd add the chocolate to plain coffee with a few drops of chocolate liquid Stevia and a teaspoon of Splenda and I had the most delicous large cup of hot chocolate. I'd add the vanilla to a hot cup of Tazo cinnamon chia tea and it was heavenly. With the Nutribullet I'd add the vanilla with a cup of ice and any of my flavored Stevia's (English toffee, pumpkin spice, mandarin orange, cinnamon, vanilla cream or root beer) and make a delicious frozen treat. The choclate could be added with the chocolate Stevia and a little more ice and it tasted like ice cream. I also went out to lunch 3 times with my girlfriends and simply ordered a cup of ice for lunch and enjoyed my shake. Later on we'd go to Starbucks and I'd order a tall hot Oprah chai tea in a venti cup, add my vanilla shake and it was purely decadent. My nutritionist said she'd never heard of someone being so creative and having to much fun with the liquid diet. She said she mostly heard complaints about how hard and bored most people were with it. I've learned this whole eating thing is more in my mind than anything. I'm on my 6th day post-op and I can't believe how easy it is so far. I had bypass surgery last Tuesday, April 21st and was home the next evening. Pain pills Thursday and Friday and by Saturday I was back to my old self. Thank you Dr. Bowers at Mayo Hospital!!! Best of luck on your journey

Hi ladies! My surgery went extremely well and my surgeon was most pleased with my 2 week pre-op liquid diet loss of 16 lbs. He said my bypass surgery only took 2 hours. When the day nurse would ask what my pain level was on a scale of 1-10 it was never higher than a 2. That was until that evening when the night nurse had to “strip” my drain and it brought me to tears. It felt as though a major artery was being pulled straight out of my left collarbone. It even left me sore in that area. When she had to strip it again the next morning, I cried. I have a very high tolerance for pain but this was just unbearable. When the surgeon’s resident came in to remove the drain it only hurt for a minute. Never been so happy to see that thing gone! My surgery was at 8 a.m. on 4/21 and I went home at 6 pm 4/22. I slept from 11 pm – 7 am and woke with very minor soreness. I only took 2 oxycodones the whole day and have had one so far today. My blenderized diet totals for the day were calories-450, protein-52, fat-14 and carbs 22. Today my goal will be 60 grams of protein which will be easy to achieve by drinking 2 Premier protein shakes which have 30g each. They are my favorite and taste oh so delicious. My only challenge is taking my meds with applesauce because they taste so gross! I have a nerve condition which requires me to take 200mg of Lyrica and 800mg of Gabapentin 3 times per day. My surgeon also has me taking 20mg of Omeprazole for 90 days. I’ll be done with the Oxycodone after today, so that won’t be a problem. I just can’t believe how amazing I feel. I thought for sure I’d be miserable for several days so I feel VERY blessed. Thank you ladies for letting me stay here even though I was not “sleeved”. I look at it as we’ve all had WLS so we can all relate to one another. Now I need to take the time to go back and see who all is on here now. Congrats to everyone for doing so well and welcome to all the newbies!

Hey ladies - I've missed you!!! I've been gone way too long but still on track for my upcoming WLS. I had to switch to the bypass as it will be my best chance of getting rid of my diabetes. I started this journey in October 2014 at the age of 53 and my surgery is this coming Tuesday, April 21st at 7:30 am at Mayo Hospital here in Jacksonville, FL where I live. I am beyond excited!!! I'd dieted and long some weight, then gained it back but since starting my 2 week pre-op liquid Optifast diet, I have already lost 14 lbs. I'm on day 12 and it has been really easy. My 93 year old father-in-law passed away last Monday and the funeral was in Orlando. I just took my shakes with me and when asked why I wasn't eating, I simply told them this was the final piece to my post-stroke puzzle as I needed to lose this weight. No one knows I'm having surgery with the exception of one sister-in-law and I wanted to keep it that way. I've only told 5 people besides my husband, son and brother. Tomorrow I will tell my parents. I've waited as close to my surgery date as possible to tell them because all they'll do is worry. They live here and I'm sure they'll be there with my husband and son. I hope I can stay here with yall even though I'm not being sleeved I'm so happy to hear how well everyone is doing.

58 y.o. female looking for others my age who have had gastric bypass
beachgal2935 replied to Pamela Diamond's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I'm 53 and would love to be a part of this group. My surgery date is April 21st at Mayo Hospital! I start my 2 week pre-op Optifast liquid diet April 7th so I'm trying to soak up any and all information, tips, etc. I can get. I'm trying different Protein drinks to see which ones I like best. I purchased GENEPRO which supposedly has no taste and have added it to different drinks. I can taste it but can tolerate it and at 30 grams of protein for just 1 TBS, it's hard to beat. My favorite pre-made shake so far is EAS Carb Advantage which is 100 calories and 17g of protein. Has anyone tried unjury? My nutritionist told me yesterday that's what they use in the hospital. I'm thinking about ordering the sampler. Thank you for and advice you can share. -
I need help! Can you please share with me why you chose bypass over being sleeved? My medical team is telling me I would benefit more from the bypass because it would get rid of my diabetes whereas there's less of a chance of that happening with the sleeve. They tell me I'd also lose more weight. Thank you

Last two days at Mayo have been long. Did the resting metabolism test Tuesday, Oximetry test Wednesday night, blood draw this morning (14 vials), then off for ECG, met with Nutritionist and Endocrinologist - whew! Nutritionist visit went well and I am officially down 15.1 lbs. after 5 weeks of my pre-op diet - Whoo Hoo!!! Other good news, my A1C (diabetes indicator) has gone down from 11.2 (a year ago when I had a stroke) to 6.5! I am super excited about that number. Last visit with Nutritionist in 2 weeks where she'll give me my final exam. Said I have to pass it with at least a 70%. Told her I could pass it today with a 100% She agreed! Only thing I have to give up is chewing gum. No problem ... DONE! Everything else I'm already doing. Doing my colonoscopy prep later this afternoon and then Friday at 9:35 a.m. both my endoscopy and colonoscopy are scheduled at Mayo Clinic. Bring it on and let's get this thing a rolling! I'm ready for weight loss surgery. Looks like I will be having the bypass instead of the sleeve but I hope you girls will let me stay here with you. They tell me the bypass will eliminate my diabetes and I'll lose more weight, so I think that's the route I'll take Kathy - glad to see you doing so well. I promise to keep up with everyone else as soon as I get all this craziness behind me.

Been gone a few days and it looks like we have some new 50's ladies - Yay! I lost a family member (my cousin's husband) who fought a long hard battle with multiple myeloma cancer this past Saturday. It just breaks my heart, though I know he's in a much better place now and will no longer have to suffer. The memorial service is this coming Saturday so a lot of family is flying in from all over and things are kinda crazy. Just wanted yall to know that I try and catch up on everyone's progress every day or so. Welcome to the Newbies and Congrats to everyone else on their progress! Next week I will frequent Mayo Hospital, here in Jacksonville, Florida, three days. Tuesday I meet with the Bariatric coordinator and it looks like I'm taking home some type of pulmonary overnight oximetry machine. Anyone care to elaborate on this? I think it will test my oxygen levels as I sleep to see if they need to do a sleep apnea study on me. Wednesday I go for labs and my 2nd nutrition appointment (hope she's happy to see that I've lost weight). I also have and ECG and then I see my Endocrinologist (hoping the dieting has lowered my A1C). Full day: 9:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. - Whew! Then Friday it's time for my endoscopy and I figured since I've never had one, why not go ahead and have a colonoscopy! Now don't yall be jealous - LOL! Any insight on any of these procedures is more than welcome.

Hey girls! I've been gone for a few days because my cousin's husband is at Mayo dying of multiple myeloma cancer and it has been just awful. It makes me happy to see all of the successes going on here, so Congrats to all the new sleevers! Happy I lost another 2 lbs and it's getting much easier as far as tracking my food and getting my daily steps in. I'm still loving my Jawbone Up24 fitness armband. Thanks for telling me how to get my ticker too. I've got to get to bed early because, I'm exhausted. Keep up the good work everyone!
