How long are you planning to take off from work?

I'm a full time student and I'm getting sleeved on March 17, in Mexico. I will stay overnight at the surgical center, then I will spend the following 2 nights at the Marriott in Tijuana. That Sunday we will return home and I will have a week of spring break to recover. I live on campus with my husband and my kids, and most of my classes are about a mile from our apartment. I have to attend all of my classes the first week of the quarter to maintain my enrollment, and taking a quarter off isn't an option since we live in University housing. I will have to be in good enough shape to either ride my bike (what I do now) or walk to classes, and back home again. This is intimidating, but at least I am able to rest in between classes that first week. So for me, surgery is on Thursday, March 17, and I return to school (including getting to, and around campus), 11 days later on March 28. Lol, wish me luck! -
@@24601 I'm in Riverside. Just moved here over the summer, but your weather sounds like ours. I'm not sleeved yet, 2 more weeks, but I'm looking forward to being more comfortable in the heat.

To tell or not to tell?
ready2bloom replied to ready2bloom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for your input!! I think for now I am going to play it by ear, and maybe limit who I tell to my mom, my brother, and my best friend (none of which are local), then play it by ear... I don't want to be dishonest, but I also don't want to stir up family gossip. I agree that it will be awhile before anybody really notices my loss, so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. You guys rock! Thank you for sharing your experiences with me! -

To tell or not to tell? That is the question... I have yoyo'ed to an extreme measure in my adulthood but never maintained for the long term. I am BMI 40, and those that love me always point out how I "know how to lose weight" since I have lost lots of weight... over and over again... What I don't seem to be able to do is maintain. I just feel so torn on who to tell. It will be obvious that I am losing, and I have not lost more than 20 pounds at a time in the last few years. (although I have gotten to about 130 pounds twice in my adult life, only to spiral up to (way) over 200 pounds each time. I have overweight family and friends, and those who will tell me "but your pretty as you are!" It is not about pretty, and I don't feel pretty anyway... I am so excited to feel better! Iive in a hot climate, and even in winter I sweat just walking around Kmart. I have clogged ducts under my armpits and cysts where you don't wanna know... My blood pressure is high, and I mostly want to spend all the time I'm not studying (I'm a student) on the couch, instead of getting out of the house and being active with the kids... That was a tangent... Sorry, lol, I know I'm preaching to the choir. I guess a final side note would be that My husband and our pre-teen/teen kids moved about 500 miles from most of our (non-judgmental) family and friends so I could go to school, and the only people we know here are family on the more judgmental side. Who told, or did not tell? why? what were the consequences of each decision? Thanks guys!!

I am so very very excited! My surgery day was confirmed just today! March 17! I am having my surgery at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico. I have wanted to do this for such a very long time... I first looked into WLS back in 2008, and first contacted the surgical center I am going through almost two years ago, but I was unable to proceed for financial reasons. I am so ready to feel better! to feel good in my body! I have been creeping on this site for a loooong time. feels good to have started the journey, and to be interacting with all of you beautiful people. Cheers! FYI: I live in California, Surgery in TJ, Age:35, BMI: 40 We got this!!

I think it wise to find out what you are dealing with before undergoing surgery, best of luck!
