Morning All. Nothing Crisp, here... Somebody forgot to tell Texas that Summer is Over... Sheesh! It's HOT here. Great job, Ira! Happy Day! Even if there is scale variation, you are still moving in the right direction. I will try to contain my envy that you already have a band! Miss Eileen, how's your Sis? Any word from your insurance co? I will be calling mine again to be SURE that this time they have received the file... Y'all have a great day!

    Venting! ......Long post.........

(((HUGS))) Oh Jess, You have lost 35 pounds - which I am assuming you would not have lost, otherwise. You have been recovering from a traumatizing accident at the same time. You have done alright, all things considered. The trick now is to determine how to deal with the people around you. Telling them you have put away the scale is good. As for the waste of $14k - you just tell them that you have a permanent tool that will never go away. You will always and forever have the choice to have more or less restriction on your eating. If you cast that out over your life expectancy and divide by the number of years that most folks live, you have invested in a FABULOUS tool for less than the cost of an annual gym membership. If your SIL continues to tell you that ByPass is the answer (between bouts of vomiting!) you can point out the complete lack of side effects you have and that you prefer the healthier slow method. And, at my information seminar, one of the things they specifically told us was to invest in good birth control - since after the weight starts to come off, it is amazinig how many women turn up preggers. Now that you are feeling more comfortable with your ability to exercise, you will probably see that weight begin to come off a little faster. But, even if it stays really slow, please remember that so long as the scale keeps moving down at all, it is still a victory. So, it will take you 5 yrs to get to where you thought you would be in 1. It will be a much easier 5 yrs for you than it would be for a by-pass patient and the end result is better, because not only will you be thin, you will be HEALTHY. Good Luck! and feel free to vent any time. :]

    Again with the hair!

Are you taking high levels of Ibuprofin? I knew a gal once who started losing her hair because of that - but she was under huge stress and taking like 20 pills a day or more... Probably not that if you are stress free - but just in case...

Ready to come clean - long

Hi, Melissa. Nowhere else will you find a group who can understand and feel your pain. In some sense - everyone here has "been there & done that" and have come to the realization that we all have two options: Fight or Flight. Since the only form of flight from Morbid Obesity is an early death - well, that makes the choice pretty easy. Life is more than just sucking air - and we all want the energy and ability to enjoy it. Life is a banquet - and I am tired of starving. Welcome. ((HUGS))
  8. While your doc can't tell you WHERE he is going, he might be able to tell you THAT he is going to a) retire. open a new practice. c) relocate. You should call him and ask. I think the legal thing involves him not "stealing" patients from the existing practise. If he is going to retire, I don't think that would be an issue. Just tell him you are concerned about after-care for your band and see if he will give you any hints. Then you can make a decision to have the surgery now, have it later with another doc, or have it later with this doc in his new digs (if he is starting anew). Sadly, nobody can make this decision for you - not even your friend. Good luck!

Oh, Ira... I am laughing soooooo hard right now. I love your sarcasm. Feel free to rant any time. Oh my goodness! You're overweight? What a shock it must have been to hear this tragic news... But did the darling dude turn green when you talked about bypass vs band - or did he go red? Oh well. MAYBE their program will be more beneficial than your own efforts... Good luck on the fill. Let us know how that turns out for you - and don't be a stranger. Eileen - how the heck are you? Did you get my return e-mail yesterday? Have you had your 5th cup of coffee, yet? Lisa - how you doing now that the kids are back in school? Everybody have a great day! Irene
  18. It wasn't easy to quit - but I did one thing that actually helped. I, also, smoked behind my Husband's back at work after we "quit". After a while, I realized that it wasn't so much the cigarette that I wanted, but the break... After I realized this, I started taking "Second Hand Smoke Breaks". When my buddies went out, I went too - but I stood up-wind and just talked to them. It was much easier to give up the nicotine than to give up my social time with co-workers. Hope it helps.

I don't shy away from the whole Sex thing - I have been blessed by (insert your favorite Diety/Higher Power, here) to have a wonderful Husband who has been instrumental in my feelings of beauty & sexiness. Yup, I got no problems feeling good about my fat ol' self - but I try to follow a couple of rules when posting. 1) don't post anything that you wouldn't want to hear about yourself in the same circumstances. 2) don't post anything you would be terribly ashamed to see printed in the newspaper next to your picture. I tend to be highly opinionated - but I respect the fact that it's a big world and it takes all kinds of folks to keep it spinning properly. Love you guys, warts and all. xo

Ira? Oh, Ira? Where are you? Don't you LIKE us anymore? Mornin' Eileen. I am thinking that the 6 cups of coffee a day MAY be contributing to your excessive energy in the morning. If not that, then the going to bed at 8pm COULD account for it. Geez, Girl! What time do you get UP in the morning? I usually don't even get home until 8pm. Just call me a night owl... :]
