HELP! Contemplating lapband and have questions
ReneBean replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try this thread, too: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=10035&highlight=closet I am not yet banded - but I will be. There are so many things about this surgery that are superior to the other options - not the least of which is the completely reversible nature of the thing. Unlike the By-pass, if you react badly to the band, you can have to removed - and viola! Your body returns to it's natural state. I also like the control factor. With By-pass, you eat what you can eat for the "window" of weightloss and you lose weight - really fast, but you don't have time to learn the hard stuff before the "window" closes. After a lifetime of bad habits, 18 mos is not enough time to learn the tough lessons. If, like me, you have lost and gained and lost and gained and you are sick and tired of that old cycle, then the Band is the best way to go. Long after the "window" closes on the by-pass patients, the band will still be there, working for you. Keeping you from going insane when you slip or hit a plateau, helping you to retain your losses until you are ready to start working with it again. Can you tell?? I'm sold. :] -
Lisa - HUGS for you - but if you try to drink a soda, I will still kick your butt... Be good - Carbonation is bad. Better a little FF pudding than carbonation and sugar. Popsicles MMMMMMMMMMM.

I think we have all had those urges to run away - but What would you do once you got "there". Think of what you would like this New Beginning to be like. Figure out one thing that you would do or do differently if you DID run - and do it. Feel strapped to your house? Maybe it't time for a new one - or maybe just new furniture or new wall colors. Sometimes, Change really IS good. And, I second the advice to visit your physician for a heart-to-heart about your medication. Other than that, all I can offer is (((HUGS))).

Awe, come on girls... If we all had perfect control, we wouldn't need the band... Pick yourselves up, Dust yourselves off and start all over again... ((hugs))

I can't fit into the clothes at Lane Bryant anymore... although I did shop there when I could. Now it's all about Catherines. Just a hint for those of you on the smaller side - Catherines has GREAT Clearance racks pretty much year round. If you wear a 16 or 18, you can get some pretty cute stuff for cheaps - and they have lots of clothes suitable for an office environment - something that was always lacking at LB.
-
Karla - Congrats on your surgery. We will be thinking good thoughts for you. I go in for Jury Duty tomorrow - so I probably won't get to check in until evening. Hope everybody is having/had a great weekend.

That's what the band is all about - KEEPING the weight off. If you are like me, you have lost your body weight at least once - but you lose is in 20-30 lb increments and gain it all back... The band gives me hope that I will be able to KEEP it off, and that will give me the incentive to lose the weight ONE MORE TIME... I say, find a doc that is more Band Friendly.

I was fat beginning early in childhood - multiple traumas and a Grandmother who made me clean my plate... It seems I have always been the "fat girl". Still am... **sigh**

Update on yesterday's port removal
ReneBean replied to mom2babyrose97's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Eeek. 5 yards of packing? Ick. Take care of yourself. We are all thinking positive thoughts for speedy healing. ((hugs)) -
I remember reading a post where someone got relief by lying down with their tush raised up toward the sky. I think the concept was that the gas would rise to the highest point it could... Hope you feel better, soon.
-
Try another doctor? I don't know. It certainly wouldn't hurt to do the diet and excercise - but it sounds like this doc is not very band-friendly. Havve you tried the whole diet & excercise thing, before? Has it worked for you? I know that I can LOSE the weight - but after 40 yrs of living, I know that it is KEEPING it off that is the hard part. If you are certain that the band is what you want and what you need, then change your doctor...

I have been denied by Blue Cross, also - and they are a pain in the petute to get any information from... but, call and hold for the 15 minutes and get specific information. IF you don't know exactly why they denied you, then you cannot make a satisfactory appeal. Read the sticky thread in the insurance section and read the Blue Cross thread. If your denial letter reads similar to mine, it could mean anything. **I really beleive that the insurance companies are going to deny everyone the first time - because if you don't care enough to make an appeal, then you probably dont have what it takes to be a successful bandster... So, make the appeal. You have a case and you don't need a lawyer or anything. You and your surgeon can make it together. Make use of your surgeon - and make use of Inamed. Read those other threads and fight.
-
Well, I kind of figure that it is best that I am not going to CA right now, anyway - because my denial letter was dated 9/20/05 this is a somewhat critical time for my appeal process, and I could not have worked on that from California... So, I will stay here and work on it, Even if i don't get the new position, I can go to due diligence review next month... They always need someone to go who can be gone for a week... So, maybe my staying is best, after all... Of course, if I get selected for a trial, I will be all messed up - but I guess I can avoid that if I really want to. Today I am admiring Dean Cain in bad SciFi... MMMMMMMmmmmm tasty.
-
Well, let's see... you all know how scintillating my weekends are... Slept til after 11 znd now I am watching what I lovingly call "Trash TV". I have seen VH1's most fabulous 40 iover 40 and other exciting stuff like that. Right now, as I type, I am watching "Dragon Fighter" on the SciFi Channel. Oh yeah, it's bad... Anything where the major name star is Dean Cain pretty much has to be... He may be eye candy - but a great actor he is not. I tend to love the sci fi anyway- no matter how bad. I watch trash tv while I surf LBT because it doesn't take any concentration and it fills the gap while my dial up connection takes forever to move from screen to screen... I may step out of "Sloth Mode" long enough to do a load of laundry - but then, again - I may not. Just a lazy day at the hacienda... How's by all of Y'all??
