    Should I get the sleeve

Congrats on taking a big step to a healthier life. Everything has side effects...even doing nothing and remaining obese. Call your insurance ASAP and ask about coverage, physician supervised diets and best surgeon. As far as research and statistics goes, there is a separate forum on here devoted to that. Good luck with everything...keep in touch!

    New member, hey guys!

    Welcome!
  4. To the people who say "that's why I don't tell people my business"...you should know that whether you tell people your business or not they are gonna be in your face. Last year I lost about 20 lbs doing low car dieting and exercise. A friend saw me and said "wow, you lost weight"...I replied "thanks" and left it at that. Made a comment about he stairmaster and he felt the need to give me a 2 page essay on why the stairmaster is a poor choice....all Cuz he lost 60lbs he thinks he's a professional. I'm Learning to ignore folks like that.
  5. Went for my second visit with the Bariatric surgeon...Met with his PA, Shes super nice and knowledgeable. They gave me an option of 2 surgery dates March 30th or April 9th...so excited!!!

  6. 2 months down. 4 more to go. Seems like forever.

    Why are people denied coverage?

Just curious... What are some common reasons people are denies WLS by their insurance carrier?
  8. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Maybe in the future you'll be ready to shout it from the rooftops.

Is being fat the worse thing a person could be?

I didn't mean to ignore the co-morbidities, it just seems that those of normal weight who judge harshly are not coming from that standpoint. Much like you Im 29, overweight and healthy. But I'm a healthcare worker and I realize that illness is inevitable if I don't lose weight.
  12. This is something I've pondered over and over. I've been in so many conversations where people have said things like: "She's getting fat" "I'm so fat" "My son and nephew brought home two girls and I was just hoping my son wasn't dating the fat girl" "Don't eat that or you'll get fat" I'm not saying I like being fat. But it certainly isn't the worse thing about me.

Is being fat the worse thing a person could be?

@@une nouvelle vie In reference to JK thats my exact point. While I am not judging her character based on her "characters" (cuz lets be honest, if we did that than Stephen King would be in trouble) it seems that eventhough they were fat, and described horribly, it was NOT the worst thing about them.
  15. @@RDYNEWME I am so sorry you guys are going through this. Maybe taking your spouse to a support group will help.
  16. I recently went to a weightloss seminar and they said divorce rates are high after WLS. Something to do with the person having more confidence. But I personally don't think that's it. I've noticed that a lot of obese people will settle on partners that they know isn't right for them, just for the sake of having someone. It's not until they lose weight that they realize they can do better.

    New to this...

Welcome to the site...good luck with everything. Keep us updated on your progress.
  18. Went to an info session at my chosen hospital and it was definitely a wake up call. I am most afraid of being intubated and then extubated after the surgery.

I know I am gonna be asleep...but Im a nurse who used to work in intensive care unit. I've seen people be intubated and extubated. I trust the process but I feel knowing to much is giving me anxiety.

    I'm Only 16

@@adrianacanulli I know your pain. I am so happy to hear that you are taking control now. When I was 16 years old I was at my heaviest weight 285lbs....Now that I am 29 Ive only managed to lose about 60 of those pounds and have gained back 30. I wish I had surgery as an option in 2002. Good luck in your Weight loss journey!

    Maintaining Her down there

My age group is obsessed with pubic hair removal...its quite disturbing when women come into the clinic for their annual exams and they say things like "Oh, I havent shaved yet"....lol...I am constantly telling ladies that they dont have to...at least not for me.

    Insurance doesn't cover surgery.

Sorry for your struggles. A lot of folks have had success with the physicians in Mexico and costs about $5000...look into it. Theres even a support group on this site for people sleeved in Mexico. Also, check your job and see when they'll have open enrollment. You may be able to switch to a carrier that does cover your insurance.
  23. I'm so happy for you! Congrats on passing that test.
