I am almost 10 weeks out and for the last 3 days I have been barely able to eat. I want to know if anyone else is having this problem? For the last several weeks I was able to get my protein and calories in but three days ago it felt like I was back to my 1st week after surgery. I take a few sips of my protein shake and then feel as if I am going to throw it back up again (feel over-full). This has been continuous for 3 days now. It took me all day yesterday to get even 2 protein shakes down. I had three bites of scrambled egg for dinner and got so choked up that I almost vomited it back up again. Anyone else ever go through something like this? If you did, can you let me know how long it lasted?

9 wks out and unable to eat again
ruskatie replied to ruskatie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talked to my doc and he did as happygosusan said and dropped me back to mushy foods. He said that in all likelihood with all of the complications that I had during surgery, there is a real chance that my stomach has swollen again because it is irritated by the solids. SO I am back on my protein shakes and mushy foods for the next two weeks. He wants me to try solids only one day a week during that time and see how I do. If those two days cause me trouble, he is going to do another scope and see what might be going on. SO back to soft foods again - Ugg! -

I have a call into the doctor and am waiting for the NUT to email me back as well. Its just getting frustrating as I want to eat but the moment I take a bite it chokes me and I have to either spit it out or hope that it stays down. -
Miss you most: Chocolate - my new stomach hates it but I still crave it!

Don't miss you at all: Hiding in every photo. I am nowhere near where I need to be but I am SO much better about being willing to be in photos!

I'm 9 weeks out now and for the last two days I've felt like I did the first week I was allowed to have mushy foods! I can barely get down a 1/4 a cup of food and then it feels like everything wants to come back up! I also had a sharp pain in my right portion of my stomach last night that didn't go away for over two hours (I don't have a gallbladder or an apendix so those two are ruled out)Anyone else having this problem?

I just came off my monthly a few days ago so I don't know if that is a contributing factor but this is ridiculous! I am even having a hard time getting any water down (so I am getting dehydrated - only had to go to the bathroom 2x yesterday and so far only once today and it is already noon).

If any of the other August sleevers have gone through this let me know. I am wondering if I should call the NUT or the Doctor and ask if there is something wrong> -

I've been on stool softeners and benefiber for a few weeks now. I even have to use suppositories about once a week to help with the issue. I can't complain though because my surgeons office told me in the beggining that if I had the procedure that I would have issues with the bathroom. He said it will probably take about 6 months after surgery before things get back to "normal". A lot of that stems from the NUT's diet and not being allowed to have lettuce and fiber dense foods until 10 weeks out.
All the talk about "water, water, water" intake being the thing that is going to keep things moving easily (in my experience) doesn't help at all (for some of us). I get in my 2 protein shakes a day (22oz's) and have gone as high as 99 onces of water (3 - 33 fl oz bottles) in one day and the only thing that got better was me being in the bathroom peeing every couple of hours (and being hungry constantly because the food was leaving my stomach too quickly because of all the water!)

I think everybody's body is different though and some of the tricks that work well on some will not work on others. Like I know if I drink a certain drink, two hours later I will have extreme diarrhea and I will use it if I get to a point where I am bloating and it has been a few days, but the drink only affects me and a few others that don't have appendix's or gallbladders (not having either). People with both won't have the same reaction.

But my doc approves of Maalox, Metamucil, Benefiber, Dulcolax stool softeners, and suppositories if they are needed. If it gets bad enough, he even recommends enema's. Just make sure you do not get impacted. I've read horror stories on a few sites about what some went through when they became impacted and had to seek medical intervention!

I hope things get better soon! -

@@Miaoreo YES corn byproducts in peanut butter! High Fructose Corn syrup, acerbic acid and a few other names that corn products go by. If you can afford the non GMO peanut butters than you are safe. But the label should only read peanuts, sugar, salt. Anything else and a corn product is likly in it! I stick with homemade almond butter (farmers market) and applebutter from the farmers market as well. I can't wait until I can have both! No Trader Joes or Whole Markets anywhere near me but they would be nice! I know of a Trader Joes two states away when I want to take a road trip LOL!

I am having a tough time surviving without my Starbucks coffee right now LOL! Even the decalf sugar free upsets my pouch. Ugh!

@@JustSomeGirl I am down 40 lbs as well and the only people who have noticed are the ones that know about my surgery. Everyone else just completely ignores it. I think until it is a dramatic change (say size 18 to size 4)and it is kept off for several months that no one is going to say a darn thing. It does make you feel invisible though. I'm waiting for the day when I am down to my goal weight and someone who has ignored the weight loss the entire time turns and says "You look great! You have lost a lot of weight" because my reply will be "Thanks for noticing Captain OBLIVIOUS" LMAO! -

@@amazon I actually found a group called cornfreecommunity.com that gave me great tips on which toothpaste is corn free (pretty much only ones you get from the dental office) and a great list of makeup companies that have corn free products (life saver for the makeup queen here LOL!) You are right about the feeling better without the corn though. I used to wonder why my stomach was cramping and bloating constantly (every day) and why I kept getting acne even in my 30's and 40's! Since I have stopped using all corn products I haven't had any bloating issues (except for the surgery bloat) and my acne has completely gone (even during that time of the month!) I'm doing my best to keep the faith and plug on, it just gets rough. I love reading all the success stories here but I want my story to start showing success as well! I know I have already lost a good amount of weight and my body is just trying to figure out what the heck is going on but depression will sneak up on me when I least expect it to. I hope your stall breaks soon! (And mine) so that we can celebrate soon! -

SOOOO I've only lost one pound in 3 weeks now and my clothes are still fitting the way they always were. I am following all of the NUTs and the Drs guidelines and exercising and taking my meds and still nothing is moving. I am severely craving sweets and can't have them (I think I told you all that they discovered during surgery that I am allergic to corn and all corn by-products) and everything and I do mean everything that I see that is sweet has some form of corn in it! I am getting pretty sick of nothing but protein (even though I still LOVE the Premiere Protein Shakes). Doc says no to carbs except beans and vegi's. I'm only allowed to have fresh apples and fresh peaches at this point still (7 weeks out) he won't even let me have grapes because they are still too sweet for me! I was actually appalled when I picked up a box of pasta at the store for my son when I read the ingredients list to discover that there is CORN in pasta too! Not to mention most toothpaste's, yogurt, prepackaged desserts, cakes, pies, bread, salad dressings, Starbucks coffee flavoring, flavored coffee creams, peanut butter, vegitable oil, and even makeup have some form of corn in them! The list is exhaustive! SO I have been poisoning myself for years without knowing it! The NUT says I am going to have to be on a "caveman eating plan" for the rest of my life if I don't want to poison myself with corn products ever again. Which basically means meats / seafood without sauces except pure butter (no margarine because it is corn based), fresh cooked vegitables, and fresh fruits. I'm begining to wonder with all these restrictions to my diet why I'm not losing weight? I'm trying to keep my spirits up but it is becoming more difficult by the day. Ok.... rant over LOL! I am SO happy to see that other August sleevers are having such great success though! -

@@Introvert, @@b4real5, Thanks for the encouragement! I think a lot of my anxiety is coming from being overweight for SO long that I am seriously doubting that a surgery is going to change that. My 43 birthday is in November and I don't still want to be considered Morbidly Obese by then (I'm 20 pounds shy of just being considered "obese"). I know everyone's body is different and everybody loses weight at different rates but I can't help but look at the ones that are my height and that started at my weight (or within 5 pounds of my high weight) and all seem to be doing SO much better than I am and it frustrates me (I saw one that lost 60 pounds in her first 6 weeks!). The only place where you can tell I have lost any weight is in my face and arms! I am still wearing the same size as I was wearing when I went into the hospital and they are fitting just like they did then (except a few tops that have gotten loser around the "girls") Is a one size down too much to ask for at this time in my journey? I really came to this site looking for friendly "faces" because my local support group tends to spend more time talking about what they think I am doing wrong than "supporting" me so I am very glad that you two reached out to me and you are so kind and encouraging. Hoping you are right and I break my stall soon! -

Hello everyone. This is my first day on this site and my first post. I was sleeved on August 18th and dropped 30 pounds in the first couple of weeks but I have been on a stall for two weeks now. I had a lot of issues the first week due to unknown allergies to the medications, surgical sutures, etc so spent my first week in the hospital not enjoying myself. The 2nd and 3 week I was so tired that I slept 10 to 12 hours a day. My doc (who is fantastic) said that it was normal as I was still going through the rejection phase of the internal sutures (constant itching, pain, and sutures working their way up and out of the incision points). BUT at least I was losing weight! This stall is driving me insane! My NUT says that I am getting my alloted Protein in and that I am doing good on my calories so I should just take a deep breath and not get on the scale for two weeks. But, that is the hardest thing in the world to do! I keep thinking I didn't go through all of the pain and issues (had to take 6 weeks off due to all the complications) to not lose anymore weight so I am hoping that this stall will break soon!
