Where are all the Canadians ?

I don't see the dietician until February. Does it usually go in that order? Social worker and then the nutritionist?

My 1st appointment is with the social worker in October.

Calgirl26 I will for sure keep your experience in mind. I'd be devastated to be denied WLS because my BMI dropped to 34.5. Maybe this is something I'll have to bring up at my social worker meeting in October.

Thanks BriWLS. When you say they only weigh you the first time, what visit are you referring to? I haven't been weighed by anyone in the bariatric program yet. Did they weigh you at orientation? That's the only thing I've done so far. Only my family physician, when she wrote the referral, has weighed me. You also said that they don't measure your BMI after you're on Optifast but that's not until your surgery is approved right?

That's so cool. I think I'd much prefer to have the VSG but for Ontario they said it's the RNY unless the surgeon decides otherwise. So I was less than thrilled when I learned about that at orientation. I've done a lot of reading up on both procedures so I will bring it up when I see the social worker in October. You don't get if you don't ask. Or maybe I'll have to be a squeaky wheel without being totally annoying. Otherwise I'm sure they could just refuse me altogether.

Wow, that's really disappointing to hear. I won't be seeing the surgeon for many months I'm sure. Thanks for letting me know Calgirl26. I have arthritis in my knees and neck and high blood pressure. I'm really looking forward to getting some relief for my knees too. Lucky you! December is getting close. Are you getting it done here in Canada? How long is the process in Alberta? Are you getting a roux n-y? All the best!

Where are all the Canadians ?

Hello everyone I'm in Toronto. I just went to orientation two weeks ago so I'm just at the very beginning of my journey. I going through OHIP for my surgery. I have my social work appointment in October and I see the nutritionist in February. Does anyone know if they weigh you throughout the process or at each appointment? I ask because I'm at 35 BMI with co-morbidities but of course I'm always trying to lose weight. I'm concerned that if I were to drop below 35 BMI that they wouldn't let me have the surgery.
  8. Hi CassJones. How did your surgery go? How are you doing? I'm in Toronto as well but I haven't had surgery yet. I just went to orientation two weeks ago. I hope it's all working out the way you want.
