How much time off from work?
bellabloom replied to Dualstarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will want the whole week, maybe more. Take as much time off as you can afford -
New to this surgery!
bellabloom replied to arielgail21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too. Surgery on the 4th. My nut said doesn't worry to much about the Protein. Don't try and drink more than 2 ounces per 15 min. Just worry about the Water for now and ease into the food. I've been doing good with tomato cream Soup, vanilla protein and crystal light. Best wishes -
Has anyone had any positive post op experiences?
bellabloom replied to berkeleycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That said, I believe it is worth it. I would do it again. -

I feel it is very important you realize that people are different. Different weights, different ages, different health issues. Our bodies react differently. Stay positive but realize you are about to have major surgery and radically change your body and there is no going back. Prepare yourself for some rough road, it's major surgery! Not a trip to the dentist. At best is goes very easy for you. At worst, you have some pain and a longer recovery. Complications are rare. Is it worth it to you to have your weight loss? This surgery puts a shackle around your ability to eat. That's what it does. Just be honest with yourself about wether you are making a choice for the best and willing to go through a little pain to get there. It passes Anyone who says this surgery is a snap of the fingers is probably getting paid or very lucky. I have had the surgery and had two other friends have it and it was not a wam bam thank you Mamn for us. -
How much time off from work?

I would say two weeks is enough but everyone is different. I've had a lot of pain with my surgery and I'm one week out, and doing much better. The hard thing is the energy level. It really depends on you due to how much food and water you can tolerate right off. Everyone is different. Best wishes -
Do you count vitamin calories?
bellabloom replied to brown eyed gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't need to count your vitamins. I don't think it's wrong to eat 1000 calls if your getting your workouts in. -
Why no weight loss 3 weeks post-op?
bellabloom replied to bluvstrui's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body needs a moment to recover. It's not big deal, common after fast weight loss to hit stalls -
Not going to happen. This is major surgery. A lot of people on hear don't go into detail enough about their experiences for you to understand. At worst you will still be in the hospital. At best you will be home and tired as heck. Just plan on taking the week off and know this- you are making a major change to your body. It's not going to the dentist.

Iron supplement.. ????
bellabloom replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't bother me at all. -
I had to stay in the hospital 3 extra days, with horrible gas pain, throwing up blood, foam, and then choking in my sleep. I went home and my mom stayed a week to help with my 2 and 5 year olds. Thank god she did, it would have been brutal for me. Between being exhausted and getting used to the new eating patterns, being in pain and tired to the point of immobility I really need her help. You never know how your going to react and you should try and have someone lined up for the first week to help. Your having major surgery and you deserve to take your time and rest. The kids were nervous about how pale I've been and all the cuts on my belly and it would have been hard for them to see me struggling to care for them as well. My doctor said no lifting over 20 lbs

I fell down the steps 10 days post-op!
bellabloom replied to newjules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. Your insides have healed quite a bit by now. Unless you fell hard right onnm your stomach and your having pain there or bleeding, don't worry. But be more careful. You don't want to derail yourself with a broken leg! -
Iron supplement.. ????

I got the chewable ones from celebrate. It only requires me to take one a day and it's the best tasting one. -
Feel like I'm going to explode
bellabloom replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke to my nutritionist. The reason I was feeling like this was due to some swelling from surgery and over eating. They didn't explain this to me well in the hospital or really anytime- but now I know. Getting full only requires a tablespoon of food or liquid. two tblsp and I'm pretty much stuffed. I've been bored just watching tv, which triggers me to over eat to begin with, while healing from my surgery. It has contributed, along with habit and the mental urge to eat, to me taking in food. It's not like before. You have to set aside a tblsp full or two of food, eat a bite, wait five minutes, eat the next, done. It's ridiculous almost how little we eat at this phase. Now that I have slowed way down I feel much better than I did I know if I eat I'm going to get that full feeling so I watch it. Slow is the way to go! The only thing that doesn't seem to do this to me is Water. It pretty much goes through. -
How about some NSVs!?!?
bellabloom replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today my mom said: your eyes look bigger. It's not much but it's a start!!! I am looking forward to being able to hold my daughter on my lap with room, being able to sit in a booth at a restaurant comfortably, being able to win my @&&@ without crazy circus maneuvers , having people not ask me when my baby is due, going window shopping and actually feeling like I belong in the stores I visit ....... -

4 days post Gastric Bypass Op! Yeaaa
bellabloom replied to StanCounty29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You sound like your having an easy time of it! I'm jealous. But happy for you. I'm a week out and down 10 lbs. -
Put it this way. If your going to use Xenical, best buy some adult diapers at the same time and save yourself the trip. Phentermine made me feel super weird. Revved up and angry and it only curbed my appetite for a few days. It doesn't work at all on emotional hunger or habits. Also I became pregnant while on it and it was a tubal ectopic pregnancy. I feel the drug had something to do with this happening. Very dangerous to take. I would try and lose weight through diet and ex before anything else.

I had no idea how painful this surgery would be. I am in my first night in the hospital and I have never had so much pain in my life. I did not understand the gas pain heading my way or the fact I would puke after ever shot of pain medicine. Right now I am scared to death of eating a thing and having this pain return at home. And I would kill for a huge gulp of water!!! This surgery is no joke and I am so far from poking fun at myself it isn't even funny. If you had this surgery you are a freakin rockstar and you deserve every pound lost!!!!

What insurance do you have?
-
Yes it is. I wouldn't even consider the thought of drinking for many months out. I don't drink and of course haven't drank since surgery (even drinking Water is a challenge) but I know that my narcotic painkillers used to take an hour to work, and now work in ten to fifteen minutes. Alcohol will go through you like a truck. I would not have this surgery if you can't accept that you may never be able to drink much again.

A month out and GAINING?!?
bellabloom replied to Luna222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably got very dehydrated from not eating enough and when you upped the intake it came on as water weight and some bloat. Give it another week or two -
Does bypass ever not work?
bellabloom replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you follow your doctors orders you will lose weight. My friends husband had the sleeve, ate around it, and barely lost weight. I believe the gastric bypass is harder to eat around. I imagine people do manage to continue their bad habits and either don't lose much or end up in the hospital. Weight is math. Less in and you lose! More in and you don't. But metabolism plays a role. I think many, many people end up regaining because they never incorporate working out and their metabolism slows to a crawl. Our bodies don't like to be starved. After a few years, peoples metabolism is so shot they gain weight eating only 1500 or so calories a day. If you follow the plan, and workout on a regular basis, you will have great success. That I am sure of. Try talking positive to yourself and try not to take it all so seriously. You have to have a little faith in the process, and let go. Let go of the weight. -
I don't understand the portion control when it comes to liquids. Will sipping too much liquid stretch out my pouch?

Will water keep me fat?
bellabloom replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't really thinking clearly when I asked this question! Hahaha. I'm home now and know that water has no calories, I was really out of it. I had a pretty tough time in the hospital but it could have been worse!! I'm doing well now.
