    Lapband Removal Recovery

I did mine at different times. My surgeon said it was better to heal first. Also he would have a better idea about how much scar tissue I had before he converted me. He seemed to believe it was safer. It worked out for me bc at first my insurance wasn't going to cover the sleeve and after my band was out thry did! 3. I was banded in 2007 and revised to a sleeve. I agree that the community has changed a lot since then but i think there are still good supportive people here. Ignore the idiots and negativity and take whst you actually need. Best advice i have. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    I regret this surgery

Im not going to pretend to speak for everyone but it got easier for me. I had a lapband and now ive been revised to the sleeve but the diets are pretty much the same. I felt hopelessly depressed at first. I reminded myself why I did this to begin with. Its an addiction. Remember to treat yourself kindly as you work through it. Its just as much,if not more, mental than physical. Your thought process changes with your body over time. Good luck. I hope youve started to feel a bit better. Slippage?

I had the symptoms you described and my band had slipped. First I did a barium swallow and it was confirmed. I had my band in 2007 and had also started to gain back a portion of the 150lbs I lost. I had my band removed 2 weeks ago and I'm currently sitting in the Dr office writing this. The reflux is gone. I'm hungry but I've been able to control it for the most part. I'll be converted to a sleeve in a few months. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

    Drinking before and after eating

The Fluid washed the food out of your stomach faster so you don't feel as long. It can also cause certain foods to swell and make you feel bloated or stretch the stomach. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  7. I am really happy with this new workout program. I love doing it at home and I love that the trainers are so motivating!. They are keeping me engaged and active. I've never found a family of people that are as understanding and supportive and motivating when it comes to helping me reach my goals. I'm 5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight now and I'm already feeling better. No more cravings for all that sugar bc of my shakeolgy. The best part is just having energy to play with my daughter again and getting to help other people do what I'm doing at the same time. Motivation and accountability are my biggest success tools. Re-Newed

I have never had a blog or the desire for oen until now. I was banded in 2007 and started out very strong but after a divorce, a new baby, and becoming a single mom, my workouts and motivation just took a nose dive. A friend of mine wanted to lose soem weight and started this program through Team Beachbody. I watched as she posted stuff about her diet, challenges and victories all over facebook. I guess her before and after pictures are what affected me. I remebered seeing my before pictures and how excited I was to have made such a noticable change to my appearance and my health and I wanted that feeling back. So today is a new day. I have started the Turbofire program and to help me stay motivated I have decided to become a coach and help others as well. I'll never forget how important it was for me to be able to connect with other people going through the same things I was going through and what a help they were to me when I needed a kick in the butt. I'm going to pay it foward and again, make a choice to be the strongest healthiest me I can be for myself and the people that love and depend on me. Today is a new day and I look foward to many more healthier happier days. A new fitness program that I can work with and a wonderful support group with team beachbody and lapband talk. I'm coming back and I'll be better than ever. I'm worth it.

    Best Dvds??

I just started Turbofire from team Beachbody. The DVD's are great bc there are several different approaches and the trainer walkes you through them. You get a DVD that starts off slow and teaches you the moves. if you but the program it will give you a workout schedule to prep you for intence cardio conditioning. After seeing a friend's progress with a different DVD from the same company, I had to check it out and now I'm actually a beachbody coach. Happy training!

    Workout Suggestions?

When I got started I did anything that would raise my heart rate. Dance in my living room for 20 min... jumping jacks... try doing some stuff with fitness bands for strength training. I had a gym membership for a while and traded it in for at home workout DVD's. Just try to do soemthing more than what you did before and you'll see results. ie. try 20 min of dancing without stopping for a week and the next week try 25 min. Hope that helps

    Where are you MS folks?

You are really close to me. I live in Pascagoula. I go to nursing school at JC so the gym is usually my next stop after class. It's been really busy there latley though so I'm thinking I may have to start going later in the day. It helps when you have friends that go with you.

    Where are you MS folks?

I was self-pay as well but I really felt very comfortable with Dr. Avara. He performed a surgery on a family member of mine and a few friends so I just felt comfortable with him. I also considered going to Mexico but it was just easier to stay here. I'm a nursing student and traveling adds more stress than I can handle right now. As for my progress, I am struggling a bit more that I thought I would be. My first fill was 3 ccs and I do have a bit of restriction, but not near enough. I have to kick the junk food habbits. Carbs and sweets are my worst enemy. I have taken up going to a 24/7 gym in Gautier MS a few times a week. I've only lost about 4 lbs since my first fill. It is discouraging at times but I just keep pushing harder in the gym until I can get that good restriction. I have a 2nd fill scheduled for March 14. I'm still proud of myself. I am doing much better with this than I have ever done with anything in the past. I really hope you are successful. If you ever have any questions or if there is anything I can do feel free to send me a private message. I'ld be happy to help.

    Where are you MS folks?

Hello everyone! I had my first fill today and after about 2 weeks of no weight loss, I'm ready to get going again. I feel some pressure in my back but nothing else. Hope you guys are all doing great. If you are still waiting for that surgery day, don't get discouraged. It's sooo worth it. 30Lbs down in one month!

    scared of being thin?

I had these thoughts when I was begining the process. I've had some traumatic events in my childhood and after a large weight loss of about 80lbs. I really think it did something to my mind set on being thin. I'm only about a week out of surgery but I'm glad I did this so far. I figured that anything I can do to better my health is a good thing. I'm not going to let my fears control me. I'm happy for the most part now and I'll be happy as a thin person as well. This will give me the opportunity to confront some of my fears and work on the mental issues with my over eating. I did this to be healthy not look like a model. I feel that I'll always be the same person only healthier. Your fears are valid, just don't let them control you. Think about how proud of yourself you will be when you are not only thin and healthy but happy with yourself. I'm looking foward to discovering the "thin me" and overcoming my fear. I'm sure it will be a long journey, but I'm up for it. Good luck on your journey.

    Female Question

I didn't have surgery during my TOM but it was close. I was told at my pre-admit that I should be prepared with sanitary items. They gave me Heprin to prevent blood clots and apparently it tends to make you start. They usually ask you about you TOM when you pre-admit. If the surgery date is really close to your pre-admit date, you may want to call and ask your Dr. and see how they would handle that. If I've learned anything from this site, it's every Dr. handles things differently. Good luck on your surgery.
  19. My family wanted to be there but I insisted on not making a huge fuss about it. My mom, grandma and best friend kept me in good spirits. I am glad that they were there to keep me awake after I got into my recovery room because it allowed me to walk, pee, and drink faster than I would've if I was nodding out. I also went home the same day. I was a little loopy and they were able to remember things the nurse had told me to do over the next few days. I would suggest you having maybe a close friend or family member there with you but it's really up to you. Again, I was outpatient and it took about 6 hours from "hi" to "bye". I'm glad I had someone with me the whole time in recovery.

    Waking up during surgey

I went to my pre-op appointment the day before my surgery and asked my nurse if she had ever heard of anyone "waking up" during the procedure. She told me that she had heard of it but never at that hospital. They monitor your brain function during the procedure and can tell when your brain is "asleep" and "awake". I was satisfied with that answer. I did, however, tell my anthestiaoligist ( I know that's not how you spell it ) to make good and sure I was out before they even got me naked.

    December Surgery Dates

Hey Guys and Gals, I havn't been to this thread in a while but I just wanted to give everyone an update. I was banded yesterday and I'm soooo sore. The gas is the worst part for me right now. My whole back hurts. Other than the discomfort, I think I'm doing ok. Anyone know how long this gas pain hangs around? My nurse told me not to take the gas x strips. Good luck to everyone.

    Week of Decemb er17th

I'm getting cold feet...AHHHHH!!! I'm not really that nervous about the surgery. I'm self-pay and 15,000 is a lot of money. I just hope that I'm doing the right thing. I'm praying for NOOOO complications. I don't know what I would do if I was hospitalized with no insurance. :::deep breath::: My date is on the 20th as long as my PCP approves all of my pre-op test results. Other than the above worries..I'm just excited. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

    Skany Evil Repulsive Patient Coordinators

"Titslereaux- Maybe those skanks are trying to make a living to feed their babies just like traffic cops, bill collectors and car salesman, and the nurse that shoves a big painful needle in your arm." I don't care what you say...you can't compare a nurse to a car salesman or a bill collector. That "big painful needle" could just save your life. I don't have anything against carsalesmen or bill collecters...as long as they are not lieing cheating scum that try to affect the health of a person by doing so. There is a HUGE difference in trying to make an HONEST living and concealing facts about a Dr. that a patient needs to know. I wouldn't let a bill collector operate on me. I also don't want a Dr. that has a bad history of infection, erosion and slippage holding my health in his hands. IT IS WRONG for someone to conceal such important information from a potential patient. To mis-represent a Dr. or a clinic to make them look better to line your pockets is disgusting and unethical. If you want to line your pockets..represent a good Dr. or clinic...then at least you don't have to misrepresent the facts.
