    What irritates your sleeve?

I am seven months out and I have a sleeve of steel and can tolerate anything I have tried. I do avoid rice, pasta, and breads just because those were my favorite foods pre op and I don't crave them now and I try to avoid refined sugars. I don't like beef or white chicken meat- they seem to dry for me now.
  2. Thanks for sharing. You are an inspiration to so many. It is true that we all need to focus on the non scale goals that we had and how far we all have come. I think when I take the time to do that it makes me more focused, but also grateful for this new life!!

    Sleeve and hypothyroidism

I have hypothyroidism and I am seven months post op and down 111 pounds. I was on 250 mcg of Synthroid a day prior to surgery. Now my dose is down to 137 mcg a day. My blood work had been stable for the last three months. I did not have any trouble swallowing my pill. I did not take it for about 4 days post op just because I was scared to try to swallow a pill, however it went down with ease. The surgeon said i could have taken it the day after surgery. Good luck you will do great!!

    FIRST MAJOR NSV!

I had a NSV this week. I actually went into Victoria Secrets and brought some workout pants ( size medium) and a hoodie(size L) First time I have ever purchased anything from there and I felt comfortable browsing around. Before my weight loss I would go in there to buy things for my daughter and I used to feel so awkward- not anymore!! Plus while I was shopping I would catch glimpses of myself in the store windows and was so surprised that I looked like a "normal" sized woman. This surgery has helped me make so many positive changes!!

Happy birthday? No, not Happy! Rant

You are in my thoughts. Hang in there, you can do this. Hopefully the steroids will help the swelling and the IV fluids will help you feel a little stronger. Dehydration makes you feel horrible. Just remember that it is hard post op but gets gradually easier as time passes and your body heals. By this time next year you are going to feel amazing. Keep us posted.

    Can't eat anything... Help!

Hang in there it gets easier. After surgery it would take me all day to get down one protein drink. Some days the protein drink made me nauseous so I would eat a Greek yogurt and that would take me most of the day too. Mostly I just focused on staying hydrated. It scared me when I would look at how little calories I was getting those first two weeks. As the swelling goes down you will gradually be able to consume more. Just go slow, take baby sips and baby bites. Being able to hold more and tolerate more will happen over time. I am seven months out and there is nothing I can't eat in moderation. You can do this!!

  10. I have hypothyroidism and have not had any problems due to surgery and I am seven months post op. my endocrinologist was a big supporter of my weight loss surgery. Pre op I took 250 mcg of Synthroid a day and 5 mg of cytomel. Now I am down to 137 mcg per day. I feel great.
  11. No problems at all!! So grateful for my sleeve.

    Do you count carbs?

I count and watch my carbs like a hawk. If I start getting in more than 30 grams a day I stop losing weight. I try to keep it less than that which is hard some days. I keep my protein no less than 70 grams but try for 80-90.

    Thrush?

I got thrush a few days after my surgery too. Just call your doctor/surgeon and they can call you in a prescription of Nystatin. You just swish it in your mouth and swallow. Mine cleared up super fast.

    Newer You... older habits...

Since losing 107 pounds I have had to move the drivers seat in my car way up- I am short. Every time I go to get in my car I wonder if I am going to fit. Another incident happened the other day, a coworker was telling their weight and said they weighed 175. I was thinking wow she looks good I can't wait until I get to that number- then it hit me that I weigh 164. It's these small things that make us grateful. Our minds will eventually catch up to our bodies
  16. I work in a large hospital and there were four of us friends that work there together that had the gastric sleeve surgery. We were each two weeks apart. We all have been very supportive of each other and it has been awesome. We were able to check on each other while we were in the hospital, share recipes and food ideas. We have been a wonderful support system. We are all between six and eight months out and our weight loss has varied from 80 pounds to 135 and there hasn't been any jealousy regarding that. I am so blessed to have experienced this with them.

I took a pillow too!! It helped so much.

    Comfort Items

I took a small travel pillow with me to the hospital and used it to brace my stomach when I got up and down and walked. It was a lifesaver. The second most helpful item was Biotene mouthwash. It helps moisturize your dry mouth.
  20. I agree- try sleeping in the recliner/chair. I never once could tolerate that hospital bed. Also, getting up every few hours and walking a lot helps. Hang in there it does get better!! Good luck

You know you lost weight when

When you go to Disney for a long weekend and you can keep up with everyone and feel great at the end of the long days. Have lots of room on the rides and come home to find you have lost another pound!! I love love my decision to have weight loss surgery!!
  22. Don't worry if you can't find a protein shake you like before surgery. First of all, your taste buds may change after surgery which happens to a lot of people. I had lots of protein shakes that I loved before surgery and after surgery I dislike them all. They make me nauseous. Depending on your surgeons guidelines for advancing your diet after surgery you might not need to rely on them for long. For example; I only had two weeks of full liquids then was able to advance to soft foods. So I only had to choke down those dreaded protein shakes for two weeks. I am six months out and rarely drink any protein shakes. I get all my protein from food.
  23. My surgeon or PCP never mention a goal weight. My initial goal was never a number on the scale, but to feel healthy and have energy. I have went from 271 to 164. I now have set a goal weight for myself at 150. If I lose anymore than that of course I will be happy, but I am focusing on how wonderful I feel.
