I just realized that Weight Loss Surgery has ruined my life.

Going on Survivor has always been on my bucket list. I am actually submitting my video application this fall. It would be a dream come true. I wanted to apply about 10 years ago- I was thin and fit back then, but my daughter had a lot of health issues and I would not have been able to leave her. Thank god she is now a healthy 16 year old and I can be gone for the 39 days. I probably won't get picked- but I am sure going to try. Every time I want to skip a workout or not up my intensity I focus on how much physical stamina I will need if my dream comes true. The diet out there is unhealthy and sparse especially for a bariatric patient, but hey it's just 39 days.
  4. If you are looking for other brands that you may like- there is a store in Jacksonville, Fl ( I live here too) called Jax Sports Nutrition and they sell a high protein low carb protein powder that has 37 grams of protein and 3 carbs. It is called Intex revolution and is in a greenish container. They are very helpful and there are two locations in the city. One off Atlantic near San Pablo and another off Southside Blvd. If you tell them you are a weight loss surgery patient and want to try samples they will mix them up right there in the store for you. It comes in lots of flavors. They also have a lot of high quality protein bars. Sorry I don't have any insight to the staff at St. Vincent's. I had my done and Baptist and had a great experience. Wish you the best of luck!!
  5. I was down 100 pounds at six months. I am down 117 now at eight months out.

    Re Sleeve after weight gain?

I have a friend who got resleeved. She wasn't feeling as much restriction. She hadn't gained any weight, but still needed to lose some more. She did well with the second resleeve. It's been two years and she is at goal weight and still feels some restriction with the new sleeve

    Easter's Challenge

Correction on my weigh in for this week. I am still at 155; not 150 like I originally posted earlier this morning. Either I was still half asleep or it was wishful thinking LOL

    Easter's Challenge

150 this week. No loss or gain. These last 15 pounds are stubborn.

    Coke / Pepsi

Never. Occasionally I will see someone drinking a soda and I will have a passing craving, but it goes away quickly.
  11. I started at 271 and now eight months post op I am 155. I am only 15 pounds from my personal goal weight. I don't really know how much I lost each month because I try really hard not to just focus on the scale- and boy is that hard. I never weigh more than once a week. I didn't work out except for some mild walking until about month four and then I felt ready to step it up. I actually don't mind exercise now, I used to hate it. I try to keep things mixed up by going to gym, walk/run outside, and home workouts. I love feeling my body get stronger. Good luck to you. Just remember that this is a process and not a race. While I do weigh, I focus each week on my non scale accomplishments and how much better I feel. This is a wonderful journey and welcome to your new life. You will do great.
  12. You can absolutely lose more than 100 pounds with the sleeve. I started at 271 and I am currently at 155 at eight months out. I have a friend who has lost 140 pounds at eight months out. It is doable!!
  13. It's good in its place. I exercise at least three days a week and some weeks more. I will say this.. I have always hated exercise, now I find that I am starting to enjoy it more. I try to keep it mixed up with outdoor running, gym, and workouts at home. My husband and I are going to take rowing lessons when the weather warms up. I don't think exercise will ever be a passion, but it isn't bad. Also, I am enjoying feeling more fit and increasing my cardiovascular endurance.

    Worried it wont work

I know pre op I was very worried the surgery would not work for me. Eight weeks before surgery I cut my calories back to 1200 and cut out all sodas and refined sugars. Then I did two weeks of a liquid diet before surgery and through all of that I only lost four pounds. It made me wonder if I would lose after the surgery. Now eight months out I am down 115 pounds and only 10-14 pounds from my final goal weight. It does work. However, a lot of us had to learn to overcome "head hunger", and learn what types of food our sleeve can tolerate. It was kind of like being a newborn and having to learn to eat. It does take hard work on your part, but the sleeve makes it so much easier. You will do fine, just stick to your eating plan and the weight will come off. It was the best decision I have ever made.
  16. I use a lot of coconut oil. I coat my face and neck in coconut oil and let it soak in then I wash in the shower and wash my face with a gentle cleanser (I use Philosophy brand) then when I am clean I smooth coconut oil over my body while still damp then I pay dry. After face is clean I use oil of olay Regenerist and then rub rose hip oil around my eye area. So far skin is moist and no extra wrinkles.

    Regret

Everything gets easier as time passes. Before you know it,all your surgical pain will be gone, then slowly your energy levels will increase and you will start to feel better. Mourning food happens to a lot of us. I had times where I was sad thinking about certain foods, but it will pass. Also, as time goes by and your stomach heals you will be able to eat almost anything- just in moderation. I am eight months out and I can enjoy a wide variety of foods and never feel deprived. I even have occasionally days where I eat chocolate, a cookie, etc. I just make sure I count my calories, protein, and carbs. Also, the sheer joy of having lost so much weight begins to outweigh any hold that food has on you. Hang in there- you can do it!!

    Fed up

Stay positive- you will lose weight after your surgery. I stuck to my preop liquid diet and never cheated. I even did two weeks instead of the recommended one because I was worried about my liver not shrinking enough. I only lost about three pounds during that time. I was nervous that I wouldn't lose after the surgery. I am seven months out and have lost 112 pounds and only 19 away from goal. So hang in there and Friday will be here soon and then you will begin to see some huge results. Good luck to you.

What is a typical day of eating for you?

I am seven months post op. This is what I plan to eat today: Breakfast: Protein pancakes w/ small amount of sugar free syrup Lunch: Grilled chicken Dinner: Baked fish- Trader Joes stuffed flounder Snack: Tuna fish (single serving in a pouch) 700 calories/ 15 grams of carbs/ 89 grams of protein
  21. I don't feel like a failure for choosing weight loss surgery. I feel brave and empowered that I took such a step to reclaim my health. Weight loss surgery is not a quick fix, but rather a life long change. I will always be a bariatric patient. I will always need to monitor my food intake, protein, etc. It takes courage to take this step to this new life. My only regret is I didn't do this sooner. I am seven months post op and down 112 pounds. I feel great and I am so much more healthy than pre surgery. Try not to look at the need for surgery as failure, but as an opportunity to reclaim your health and life. I can guarantee that after you work hard to get your weight off, spend time working out, and eventually battling the last bit of weight off needed to get to goal- you will feel like the biggest success you can imagine. You can do this!!!

    Pancake question:)

I just got done eating protein pancakes. I like them. I take one egg and beat it with a little cinnamon and vanilla flavoring. Then I stir in one scoop of vanilla flavored protein powder and add milk or water to thin it out. It makes about three pancakes and they have almost 40 grams of protein and only 5 carbs. I use lite syrup or sugar free syrup on them. I can't not tolerate protein shakes so this way I get my protein powder in and it's surprisingly tasty. They feel like a treat.

    Just curious...

I am seven months out and I have never vomited.

I wish I knew how to quit you, (fill in the blank)!

I was I could quit pretzels. Those are my weakness. Couldn't stand them before surgery. My favorite are the Pretzel crisps in everything flavor. Yummy!! Also chocolate is quite tasty; but I can easily eat it in moderation now.
