New NSV - after all this time

    What a great NSV!!
  3. @@Bluesea71 you are not alone. I am one year post op and my hair has fallen out terribly. It also isn't as shiny and healthy looking either. Also, like you, I take Biotin (10,000mg), zinc, am compliant with my Vitamins, Protein, and Fluid intake. I also added folic acid to my regime. I have tried emu oil, lots of coconut oil, argon oil, as various essential oils. Nothing has made a difference. I also started taking liquid silica added to my Water everyday. That has helped to slow the loss the most, but still hasn't really helped with the dry brittle look, or completely stopped the loss. I just started castor oil treatments ( today was my first day) so I am hoping that helps. I just massaged some on my scalp and have been letting it soak in all day. @@Miss Mac the Gelatin sounds like a good idea, I will start taking that. Hair loss must just be the luck of the draw. If anyone else has any suggestions I will try it. Good luck Bluesea71 maybe yours will eventually get better.
  4. So today is my one year post op anniversary. My new stomach is officially one year old!! It is has been one fabulous year. I started at 271 and I am at 151. I would still like to lose 10 more, but I am content with what I have lost. Today I am reflecting on what I have gained from the new lease on life... 1. I am in the best physical shape of my life. I can walk, run, climb, and swim without ever feeling terrible or out of breath 2. I can buy clothes anywhere!! I especially like shopping for workout gear (who would have ever thought) 3. I can cross my legs 4. I can ride rides at amusement parks and have tons of room left over. 5. I can sit in booths again 6. I have discovered a love of camping and hiking. I am going to do a week on the Appalachian trail later this summer. 7. Hubby and I just purchased kayaks and I am loving it. 8. I finally feel fit enough to audition for Survivor ( one of the things on my bucket list) 9. I have gained collarbones and hip bones 10. I have gained a sense of accomplishment 11. I have gained a more adventurous outlook in life- I will try almost anything once. 12. I have gained a sense of marvel in what my body can do now and how I can keep up with everyone and sometimes surpass them. 13. I have gained a lot of saggy skin- I am learning to accept it and move on 14. I have gained a love of sugar. I was a rice and bread person pre op and now my weakness is cake and Cookies. I am learning to indulge just occasionally and move on- no guilt 15. Finally I have gained an understanding that I will always be a recovering obese person and a bariatric patient. I need to stay focused on my plan even when I am maintaining. Sorry for the long post. Somedays I just feel that what we all have gained, far surpasses a number on the scale that we have lost. I would love to hear some things that others have gained from their WLS

    Gummy vitamins!?

I am one year post op and I have taken gummy vitamins since week three. I just chew them really well. I also take vitamin b liquid twice a week and biotin. I have never had any problems with them and my labwork has been normal this entire time.

    Loose skin anybody?

I am one year post op. 43 years old. My starting weight was 271 and current weight is 152. My face and neck are doing fine. I have loose skin on my upper thighs, my stomach is saggy, my arms are a little saggy but not too bad. I worked out and toned throughout this process. I have really ripped legs and arms under my loose skin. I might get my stomach and thighs done later down the road, but for now I am too happy enjoying life to want to deal with the downtime/recovery. Maybe next year? I think a lot of it depends on age and genetics. The bottom line is I would rather have jiggly skin and feel great!! Good luck to you!!

    How often do you weigh?

I only weighed about every week to week and a half for the first 9-10 months post op. That's when I was losing the fastest; but I didn't want to weigh more frequently because I Iiked seeing a bigger number. Now that I am in what I consider maintenance (even though I could lose ten more) I weigh almost everyday. I want to keep a close eye on my weight because now that I can eat more and sometimes indulge in treats I don't want the weight to creep back. If I gain a pound I work extra hard the next few days. So far that has worked for me, but I am only one year post op.

I Have A Snacking Problem? Help!

One thing that I do is paint my nails. It's hard to rummage through the kitchen and eat when your nails are drying. The other benefit to that is my nails almost always look perfect and I change the color constantly. Everyone always compliments my nails. I also use the bath trick. I light candles, make myself a cup of herbal tea and soak. Now that its summer I also swim in the pool after dinner. It is hard not to snack and graze. I have days where I eat poorly. I just make sure that I get right back on track the next day. Good luck- You got this!!

    Back to Work

I took four weeks off and I was glad I did. I used that time to learn how to eat and drink slowly, took naps when I needed, and walked everyday. When I did go back I felt completely recovered. That being said, everyone is different. Good luck on your surgery!

    Scheduled June 29

My child is older. She was 15 when I had my surgery. I could not have cared for a smaller child immediately post op. I was on pain meds for about a week and a half and I took naps everyday for at least the first two weeks. I say take all the help that is offered to you. This is your time that you need to heal and let your body rest. Good luck to you. This surgery is a wonderful life changer.

Madly in love but holding back info

@@CanyonBaby what a truly beautiful and touching post. True love like that is rare and once you have it you feel blessed everyday. I have been lucky enough to find this type of unconditional, head over heels love too. I agree that to be completely connected two people have to be willing to share the good and the bad, be there for each other and share the hard truths. I have been with my husband since I was 16 and now I am 43. He has loved me through all my different sizes. We are each others best friend. I can't imagine what a difficult time this is for you and your husband. He is your world. I pray for his healing and strength for you both. To the original poster- you have to do what feels right for you. However, once you have no secrets from your significant other and accept each other for the good and the bad it opens up an entirely different level of love. Good luck to you in your relationship. Everyone deserves a true love!!

If you knew then what you know now

I really wish I had taken more pre op pictures so I could see how far I have come. I spent years running from the camera and when I did take photos I was always hiding in the back. I have very few pre op full length pictures. Now I never avoid the camera. I even posted pictures of myself in a bathing suit on Facebook this weekend. I also wish I had taken measurements. Good luck on your surgery!!

    Vacation 3 weeks post-op?

I went on a beach vacation at four weeks post op. I did fine except for occasionally wanting some kind of unhealthy snack like everyone else was wolfing down. Those feelings passed very quickly though. My incisions had completely healed by then and I had my doctors ok to swim. I just relaxed, took long walks on the beach and enjoyed it. Good luck with your surgery!!

    What if?

I agree!!! I am still about 10 pounds from my goal. I know if I worked a little harder I could make it. However, a few weeks ago I decided to "live like I was a goal",and to focus on non weight related goals. It has been wonderful. This Thursday night I am going to a Pole Dance fitness class- something that I would never have done before. Also this weekend will be my first ever camping trip and kayaking. I still want to zip line and go to a water park this summer and then all my short term goals will be met and I can make new ones. Chasing after the perfect number on a scale isn't near as much fun as chasing after a fun filled life!!! Good topic.

What size do you think I might be wearing?

I am 5'3" and weigh 151-155 and I wear a size 6; sometimes a size four if the material is stretchy. I think it depends on your body type. For instance I am more top heavy so my shirts are a medium/large. If I buy a dress it's a 10-12

    Body Shape / Clothes

I too carry my excess weight in my abdomen; so I feel your pain. I agree with VsgAnn2014 that my tummy fat did get a little better with the last 15-20 pounds that I Iost. It is still the biggest part of me. I wear compression tank tops under most of my shirts and they come down past my tummy and that helps hold things in. I think it would get even better if I lost another 10 pounds. I am currently 152-154 and I am 5'3". My body has kinda settled at this weight for awhile. Also, I have increased my exercise over the last two months and I think that has helped a lot. My weight has stayed the same, but I can wear size 6's now. I am also going to add swimming to my routine so we will see if that helps. Hang in there and let's cross our fingers that things tighten up over time. Good luck
