Losing inches not weight
gahannagal replied to happygolucky5573's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read this and said oh yes. I have lost weight but I have lost more inches than weight. I am excited either way! are you exercising? When you build muscle tone back it can cause weight to change. Muscle is much heavier then fat. I know for me I sit at a weight and then suddenly i lose 3 or 4 lbs at once. Keep doing your routine the weight will come off if you are losing inches! congrats on the pounds you have lost! -
Eating at night...
gahannagal replied to Marathongirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a Protein Drink it fills me so fast! I recently realized i need to keep my routine like we have almost all our lives. Don't eat after a certain time. Just like before surgery calories we eat and go to bed on still has the same effect on us. I find I have stalemate (stop losing) when i eat late. I once has someone tell me to have a horrible tasting cough drop. I go brush my teeth. I tend not to eat after I brush. Hope this gets easier for you. -

Nutri-bullet? Which food processors work best?
gahannagal replied to NicoleSW's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My advice would be to not spend a lot of money. I couldn't use the blender for drinks it caused too much air in my tummy. I just shook lightly or stirred. I personally had a ninja package i got from Sam's club and i have loved it for years. I heard bad things about blades breaking when using ice for some products. Make sure you check them out. Wish you luck on your journey! -
Those who had drains - how long for incision to close?
gahannagal replied to Lorraine M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried about mine at the beginning too. I am 6 weeks out now and it looks good. I kept it closed with tarry(sp) strips. 2 weeks ago I removed the strips (4) weeks out. I use antibiotic cream on it regularly. Clean it with peroxide daily. Hope you heal quickly. -
Congrats on getting this far! I hope that you get your approval quick. I had a quick reply but I was extremely sick person before surgery. I think they new it would be cheaper to approve. :-) I feel so good and I am off one medicine already! I wish you luck come back and let us know when you get the approval.

Hi good luck to you both! If you are not used to Protein powders or the frozen dinners. Watch the additives and the salt. The additives can cause many different symptoms. Salt can cause your blood pressure to go up. Hope the next week and a half go better. After surgery hope you feel better. I sure do!

Hi all, check your sugar free items I had trouble at the beginning with sugar alcohol. Also had trouble with splenda items. I am doing much better now 6 weeks out. But I too ate Popsicle and fudge pops. When I would do one after another I figured out it was too much "fake" sugar at once. Also my doctor suggested the lactose pills before my Protein. Again my body has changed enough 6 weeks out that I don't need them. i had to keep changing my Protein powder until i found one that wasn't so hard on my system. Good luck it is a trial time period. I promise it does get easier.

How long does your body take to regulate its temp better?
gahannagal replied to LisaCO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi are you still on pain meds? I believe they can cause you to feel warm. I know I was on a generic form of a blood thinner. I was cold all the time. I am off them now and I am still cooler then I have ever been. I never thought I would say I am cold. Things will get better as you go off the post surgery medicines. If it stays a problem make sure you tell your medical doctor. Wish you luck on your journey. -
How many of you out there went in expecting a Lap Bypass and woke up learning it was an open Bypass?
gahannagal replied to tgleicher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard it happens. I know I had an open I am glad because my Liver was too large. I hope you have support to help you heal. I have been cleaning with peroxide and using antibiotic cream every night. Did they give you a support wrap? I depend on mine still. I am 6 weeks out and see the doctor Thursday to see how long I need to use it. -

2 weeks out and I can eat far more than I should
gahannagal replied to youkmonster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check your program I agree that you should check make sure you are following guidelines. My program doesn't allow sliced cheese or meat until much further out. Just remember you don't have to eat that much at the beginning your new stomach is still healing. Remember Protein drinks should be a sip at a time still. I consider Protein Drinks as a meal not a a water/liquid. I hope things get easier for you. you will feel much better once you get the hang of how much food and how often. Oh and if your program says you can have these foods, remember my program says. If you are having trouble with this stage go back to stage 1 and start again. -
Help how to slow down
gahannagal replied to jackie's journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your program. My program suggests eating with a baby spoon, and put the spoon down between bites. I had someone suggest chewing 200 times between bites. I think it is exaggerated but the point is it will slow you down and your food will do down much easier. I too have had to learn to slow down. They want us to take 20 min to eat. Since I am still eating about 1/4 cup of food at a time it doesn't take long to eat it. I am 6 weeks out and there are only two items I can eat more than 1/4 cup. Maybe you are like me and can't go to the higher amounts yet. I wish you luck in slowing down because you will feel so much better! Oh and one time I figured out it was the food I was eating. I suspected an allergy before surgery and after I got really sick so I confirmed the allergy. You can do this! -

This is so real now... any advice anyone?
gahannagal replied to Bigdog56's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so nervous that I just didn't even read any of the negative possibilities. I am 6 weeks out and I feel the best I have in years! I too have been doing so much more than I have in the past. I am extremely excited for the future. The advise I would give it to stick to the diet plan they have for you. My program was Clear liquids for a day. I had trouble even getting liquids down. I just didn't care at all about eating or drinking. I wasn't sick or feeling down just didn't want to eat or drink. 2nd day - week 3 went to "full Liquid" diet. Yogurt, Protein drinks and the like. Week 4 - 5 pureed foods. Week 6 - 7 as the weeks have gone the Water is easier to get down. Soft foods this week. I am looking forward to the change to soft foods. I have lost 64 lbs by following this plan. Be careful of saying it won't hurt me to have this. Your stomach isn't ready for it. I wish you the best of luck. You CAN do this! I also suggest you have a great support team to keep you on your path! -
I am just coming up on my 6 week post op. I saw my endocrinologist at 3 weeks out from surgery. He said I was fine in getting the shot. I haven't had any issues!

When did nausea go away
gahannagal replied to AuriP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give it time. My Doctor gave me several medications to take. It does get better. I would try different foods. I know that I am doing better with foods I wouldn't have thought I would. There are some that I thought would go easy and they do not. If you are not able to get food or Water in make sure you talk to your doctor. -
Has Anyone Else Gone Through This Problem of Skin Hanging?
gahannagal replied to tmartin1023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi I have heard that after skin removal, if you gain any weight back it won't go to these area's? I heard it goes to area's that you might not want it to go. Does anyone know if this is true? I have a long ways to go but my arms are already really loose. I am almost 50 so i think my skin is older and may not go back as easy. Any information is helpful. thank you -
My RNY surgery Oct. 13,2014
gahannagal replied to layknee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I am 5 weeks out. I have had little problems since my surgery. I would do it again for sure. I have followed the diet restrictions closely. I have heard of many issues when you don't. I am not going to tell you that it is easy. It is hard work making sure you get the Water and Protein in. Especially after my bypass I didn't want to eat or drink anything for weeks. I am starting to want to drink my water. I am just now getting the required amounts of protein. I have had to try all kinds of protein to get here. I will say remember they give you anti nausea medicine for a reason. I had a great support team praying for me and still are. I would make sure you have a good support team helping you. I will say a special prayer for you. I hope you have a positive experience as I have. -
Can't get enough protein. Problems with protein powder.
gahannagal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am 4 1/2 weeks out and trying to find other ways to get Protein. I am still not getting near enough. I am only able to get in less than 50 grams. I have trouble with whey, milk products. Also my pouch is very small. I still can't barely get 1/4 cup of anything in at a time. When I try smoothies or drinks it takes me 3 to 4 meal times to get it down. By then I am not wanting the flavor or texture anymore. Would love suggestions. Today I was able to make no bake lasagna in. 1/4 cup ricotta 2 tbs spaghetti sauce and top with 1 tbs grated mozzarella cheese. Warm in the microwave. I like to let it cool it helps with the texture. Thank you for your suggestions. -
Postive Support needed...
gahannagal replied to dominicams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each of us have different body make up and will go through the stages differently. Please remember it can take one person more time to get to each stage. Please follow the doctors direction and don't move ahead. I have heard of some really bad situations because they have. It took me almost 3 weeks to just get 1/2 the Protein in. But it is getting easier every day. Don't get discouraged because every single pound makes a difference. I am the happiest I have been in years and I am 5 weeks out. Good luck with your journey.
