Before and After Pics

I want my husband to do it with me but he doesn't want to give up beer and food.... which you have to sever your relationship with food. Do you guys have a YouTube???My wife was determined to get the surgery but i wasnt on board for me until my back went out again and went to back surgeon who said if i didnt get weight off surgery would be pointless on my back as would happen again. So that made up my mind. My wife chose gastric bypass, i went with gastric sleeve so if i wanted in moderation to have a beer or some fries etc i could and not get dumping syndrome.. So your husband "could" in theory enjoy some of his favorite items down the road as treats in moderation, but my relationship with food has changed for sure. I eat much healthier choices now, but also not afraid to have some treats. Like every diet in the world, its all about calorie intake and how much you burn. So if i have a treat or drink, i still try and stay under my daily calorie total. Even if you read my horror story and what i went thru post op, im an advocate to others to get the wls surgery and improve their health. Was still worth it for me. Good luckWhere do I read your story? Not sure how to paste it but you can search by posts made by me.. Will be one with over a 100 comments. I think titled prayers needed or something started late last yearI tried to find it but couldn't. Oh well. Did you have bypass? Sleeve -

look at you!! Beautiful!! Do you have any success tips? I'm feeling very discouraged..I had the sleeve in June..I'm losing on an average between 7-8 lbs per month..would you say that is normal? And losing tons of hair..help! I only average losing 4 to 5 lbs a month the last 6 months or so. My surgery was last November. I am not to concerned at rate of loss. Its a lifestyle change, so as long as i know i am eating right the weight will slowly come off until it levels out at some point. I am down from 308 to 186. 1 more pound and I will be happy to be "overweight" lol as my BMI will be under 30 froma high of 50 moving me from obese to overweight. Only we understand that becoming "overweight" is a big milestone. Others would think thats not good lol -

I also told the cardiologist that i have passed out and was very lethargic a few times when drinking. May be unrelated but he said if i have sinus bradycardia, the alcohol could drop my pulse in the 30's hence the episodes i have had a few times. May make sense as i can go from ok to barely conscious in an instant. In all cases it was when i wasnt moving around / dancing etc.... Which could make sense as my pulse would drop back down when "resting" and alcohol potentially play a role in pushing it down further.

I had bronchitis a couple weeks ago and when the nurse checked my pulse was in the low 40's. The doctor checked it like 3 times and was still in low 40s so had me monitor a few days at home and past couple weeks i have had readings in the 40s on and off. Normal resting heart rate in between 60 to 100. I have my first ever cardiologist appt tomorrow to get checked out. I have had 2 EKGs and were fine. Anyone else experience this after surgery. I do get light headed and start to blackout but never fainted, which is a sign of low pulse rate. We will see what cardiologist says tomorrow. Probably get a 24hr holter monitor.
-
Not sure about the narcotic high as my surgery was almost 11 months ago. So i am not on any narcotics. Either way, cardiologist ordered a stress test, echo, 24hr Holter monitor, and a 3 week monitor after that. So we shall see.
-
Yeah only time it may be normal is if you do a lot of cardio like a pro athlete, that doesn't apply to me.

We are now almost 11 and 10 months post op and looking good down 120 and 160 lbs respectively -
When losing weight after surgery, i wondered, what i would look like when i hit certain milestones and how i may appear to others. So i would Google, male, 5'6", 250 lbs, or 200 lbs or 160 etc.... I came across a couple of websites that cater to this very fact. Others put in pics of their height and weight. I have found it useful and encouraging. Maybe others will find benefit so wanted to share. http://www.mybodygallery.com

ok, so to the outside world, doesn't seem like a positive headline, lol. but for me and us here this is a major positive milestone! I am 187 lbs currently, down from 308, and a BMI of 49.9. At 185 i will have a BMI of 29.9 and move from the "obese" category to the "overweight", category, so yes, overweight is exciting lol. Now i dont know if agree that just 30 lbs over what BMI says should be a normal weight, labels someone as "obese" as I look healthy now and most friends and family dont think i need to lose anymore weight. Also when the surgeon asked what I would consider a good end goal, i said the 180s and he thought that was a good goal. To be in the "normal" BMI range i need to be 154 or less.if that happens great if not i am happy with myself and progress 10.5 months post op. So yes, i will celebrate becoming "overweight" lol

nprcowboy replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i too said if i got to 180 would be a success and would like to settle around 160. ive had a rough couple weeks emotionally and wasnt eating more than 200 to 300 calories for a few days but instead of my 3 to 4 lbs a month i lost 4lbs in 4 days. positive is it got me to 188. i average around 900 to 1000 calories. i look forward to 3 more lbs gone then no longer bmi obese category. i need 154 to be considered healthy bmi weight range. i started at 308 so down 120 lbs -

Thanks all.. My wife will have surgery to remove 2 tumors on October 7th. They are still evaluating how to deal with cancer cells in her liver. May just wait and see and treat when tumors develop or start her now on sandostatin hormones. We will get another opinion on liver treatment. Thank you for continued prayers
-
Thanks all. We meet with surgeon today.

Met with oncologist Friday. Meeting with surgeon tomorrow. My wife will need surgery to remove 2tumors from colon and small intestine and since has spread to liver and lymph nodes she is classified as stage IV. For the liver since no sizeable tumors detected just cells they will put her on hormone therapy monthly for rest of life to try to slow growth. If she develops tumors in liver then can look at surgery or transplant. Oncologist said the tumors in intestines were on scan in December that she had when they found the cancer cells in her gastric bypass liver biopsy and shouldn't have been missed. Yet she had scans in December, January and June and other oncologist missed each time. We've lost 9 months of treatment. Please keep prayers coming. She will probably have surgery in next few weeks

9 months post on, slow gradual weight loss...
nprcowboy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am down 113lbs. In the last few months I seem to average around 4 lbs a month loss. Is this normal? I was expected at least 2 lbs per week average. Instead around 1 lb a week. I average between 900 to 1000 calories a day. Non weight loss dieting usually nets 2 lbs a week at around 1200 to 1500 calories a day. So not sure what's up. I'm not discouraged as its a lifestyle change and as long as I continue to eat right all will be good just curious about others average loss rate after 6 months or more out of surgery. Should read post OP -
Heading back to ER again, prayers please

Body image at 75 pounds down.....
nprcowboy replied to alexsisv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. I wonder all the time, "at what point will I not appear heavy" to others. You know an outside perspective. My wife and some others close to me say I don't look heavy now. But I am always wondering what a random persons observation is. Close family and friends think I don't need to lose much more but I am it sure. Some pics of myself in am like wow, I do look thin, other I still appear heavy to myself. I was 308 at heaviest on 5'6 frame. Now I am 195. Original goal I told surgeon I'd be happy with is 180. But by BMI matrix I am still technically obese until 184 or less then I would go to overweight until 155. So it's hard to listen to folks that say I don't need to lose much more and I look great now and not heavy, when I am considered obese still. I want to be in the normal or healthy BMI range. But everyone said I'm nuts and would be way to thin if I dropped another 41 lbs to get there. So I am struggling mentally with what my goal is, 180 or 155. 180 is comforting that it would mean only 15 lbs to goal weight, but still considered overweight. 155 seems so far away as I'm only losing 3 to 4 lbs a month which would mean could take me a year to get there or longer. Ugh. Lol -
Do you weigh yourself everyday? Bad/good?
nprcowboy replied to wagyu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weigh every morning like others said. As one mentioned, expect the fluctuations. When the scale fluctuates up a pound or 2, it motivates me to make sure I have a perfect diet day as I call it. When the scales reads that I've lost a pound of course that's exciting. So for me, keeps me focused by weighing daily. -
My aunt has small bowel cancer. Apparently it's pretty rare. They took her into surgery, closed her up and said there was nothing they could do for her. They gave her 6 months. That was 6 years ago. She didn't give up and she found another surgeon at UTSW in Dallas. I think his name is Dr Bosch? Six months after her diagnosis, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, one of the deadliest. That was 5 1/2 years ago. There is hope. Because of the rarity of small bowel cancer and it usually is slow growing, it is hard to study in the early stages. Because it is often missed. Please let me know if you want any more information about my aunt or her doctors. I don't want to over share unsolicited information. You have my prayers. Forgot to ask.. How did they treat her once she got the good surgeon I Texas? I think we are with the right person now. Happy to hear you both are doing well.
