Thank you! I'm meeting with my surgeon on Wednesday, I will definitely discuss this with him. I just wasn't sure what the common practice was. I don't see a point in leaving in the gallbladder if it's already diseased and I have no doubt in my mind I will have a problem with it as I start losing weight. That would mean an additional surgery, more incisions and recovery time.

Great question! -
I have gallstones, I haven't had a problem with them for over a year now ....I am expecting to have surgery in the next few months and I'm hoping my surgeon will remove my gallbladder at the time of surgery ....anyone have any experience on this for someone who already has gallbladder issues prior to surgery?

So I'm still waiting to hear back from my insurance company which is blue cross of Michigan (PPO) ... Anyone have a hard time getting approved with this insurance?

Going to see my surgeon next Wednesday ... And hopefully I'll have an answer by mid October from insurance company ....it's been such a long road to get here it's hard not to be impatient lol! I'm really hoping I can get it done by the end of the year also because of deductibles and co insurances! -
BCBS Michigan and Medicaid
rdelly01 replied to mrscherry2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I have BCBS Michigan .... They required a 6 month medically supervised diet, also I had to do a stress test and sleep study ( I can't remember if that's required from insurance or physician) I called BCBS and my surgery is covered at 50% and 100% after my max out of pocket has been reached My max out of pocket is $5,000 a year. So I can be responsible for up to $5000. -
I have gallstones ... Haven't had a problem with my gallbladder for over a year now....I'm planning on having the sleeve in the next few months... My question is how many of you had your gallbladder removed at the same time of your surgery?
-
That's great to hear!!! Good luck to you I know I'm responsible for 50% hoping I can make payments.... :/
-
Thank you! Good luck, can't wait to see your progress!

Well I'm seeing my surgeon next week and he will submit it after my visit ... I'm just so impatient lol... I'm hoping that it gets approved quickly so that I can schedule for the first week of November! When are you planning on surgery? Have you heard anything on BCBS denials? My doctor said she only had one case and it was because the woman was borderline obese by her bmi with no comorbidities

Thank you!

It's really frustrating when you're told losing weight will help and it doesn't... I hope you find some relief from it!
-
Has your doctor discussed putting in a shunt? ... I know that's another option.... 2000mg a day is a lot!!! I know it's nice to have someone understand what you're going through!
-
I know every time I get an ache I think oh no it's a kidney stone! I was on 500mg I think it was once a day but I was on it for a couple years and taken off because psuedotumor got better and then put back on because it got worse .... The numbness and tingling was horrible and the metallic taste in your mouth disgusting! I will say though, I would rather deal with the side effects than to have to get a spinal tap!! I started drinking more water and squeeze some lemon in there, it seemed to have helped with the kidney stones... Good luck!!

I've had over 30 kidney stones since I took diamox... What about you?
-
Thanks for your input... I hope you find relief with medication. I took diamox for a long time and it helped but the side effects sucked!

I've had it since 2003 and symptoms get worse when I gain weight ... It just scared me when that surgeon said that but on the other hand I can go blind from the psuedotumor also (I have permanent vision damage from it) Thanks for your input
