  1. Ready 4 Changes - I was considering the Lap Band procedure but was quickly swayed towards the Gastric Sleeve surgery. Some Doctors will not even consider the Lap Band procedure because of the high conversion or revision rate. I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery August 27, 2014 and have lost 29 lbs. Mind you....My starting weight was 224 and I am 5'7" tall, not exactly the ideal candidate for such a procedure, but I had a lot of core-morbidities that were affecting my health. Best decision I have ever made......off all the medication and no more acid reflux. Any question, please ask.

    Self pay

My self pay story: My insurance company does not cover bariatric surgery. Surprisingly, 70-80% of people with weight related issues have HIATAL HERNIAS. Most, if not all insurance companies pay for laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia repairs. My Doctor spoke to the Hospital's CFO and both he and the Hospital offered me a 30% discount. Total out of pocket expense $6,930 here in Texas.

    Who Are You?

My story may seem a bit extreme considering my weight and height. I am 5'7" and starting weight was 227 lbs. My decision to have gastric sleeve surgery was done with careful consideration by multiple Doctor's. I suffered from acid reflux and nasal allergies since childhood. I had a severe bout with allergies that literally kept me in bed for 13 months. During those 13 months, I gained 60lbs. I have a strong family history of heart disease and I had several core morbidities (hiatal hernia, pre-hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, GERD, plantar fasciitis and high lipid profiles). After 10 days post-op, my Doctors have taken away BP medication, the gastric reflux has gone away, my lipid profiles are coming down and foot pain has subsided. I was allowed to return to the gym with a reminder from my Doctors saying "listen to your body". I walk and jog intermittently 40 minutes a day. 20 days post op, I was allowed to weight train an additional hour, but can't seem to get my strength back. There is no way to get the daily requirements of 60-80 grams of protein. I am also having trouble getting the 65 oz of water. Doctor says this is normal. Getting rid of the acid reflux and all my medications have been such a blessing. God Bless all. Feel free to ask any questions.
