  1. Genepro protein has saved me since surgery as I could not handle the sweetness of the shakes. It's tasteless and mixes well into anything.

    Tasteless Protein

Genepro protein!! It's tasteless and dissolves great in anything. No clumps, no aftertaste. And 30 grams of protein per 1 tablespoon. I bought it on Amazon.

    A temperamental sleeve?

I would get really bad heartburn the first week when I would drink anything too cold. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm 2 weeks out and that isn't an issue anymore.

    Protein powder recommendations?

Genepro!!! I can't say enough good about this. It's tasteless, mixes in anything and has 30g of protein. It's the best thing ever, especially when you are sick of other protein drinks

    Stomach binder?

They have me a binder in the hospital right after surgery. Best. Thing. Ever. I wore it for the first few days all the time and when I can start exercising harder, I'm going to wear it then. I'm doing it more for helping the pains that still happen after surgery, but if it helps loose skin, even better!

    Sleep Apnea c-pap/bi-pap

I was sleeved 10/22 and took my bipap with me. I did have gas, but I don't think any extra than I would have. Can't wait to be off my machine!

  9. Find a support group. I started going after my first consultation and it has made a world of difference for me.

    October Sleevers?

I am doing great. Surgery went well, Recovery has been fairly easy. Haven't had pain meds in a week. Been walking everyday. I'm amazed how little I can eat now. Even on liquids, I get full so fast. It's crazy. I'm down 10 pounds since surgery. I'm looking forward to getting off straight liquids! I've struggled with protein drinks since surgery. They are just all too sweet. But, I found Genepro protein and it has saved me! All in all, no regrets. So happy I did this and can't wait to see more results.
  11. I was just sleeved on the 22. I was on two weeks pure liquids and am diabetic. I followed my doctors orders and my liver was still really big. Luckily she was still able to do surgery but said had I not followed it, she wouldn't be able to. Stick to it. Keep an eye on your levels. You will do great!

    October Sleevers?

I have really started learning the real difference between head hunger and real hunger since being sleeved on Wednesday. Many times I thought I was starving, had about 6 spoonfuls of broth, and was STUFFED! It's learning to fight the head hunger now. Please don't risk testing your new stomach too early. Is it really worth ending up back in the hospital for another surgery? I ordered genepro protein that is supposed to be here tomorrow. It's supposed to be tasteless that you can just add to regular drinks and it's not supposed to be clumpy. I'll let everyone know how it is!
  13. I had surgery on 10/22. Thought I would share a few things I learned to help others before surgery. -stick to your pre-op diet. Don't cheat. I had two weeks of only liquids, stuck to it and my liver was still big. Luckily doc could still do it. -if they offer a binder to wear after surgery, take it. If not, ask for one. I could not believe the difference it made. I wear mine even when sleeping. Makes turning over much easier. - gas-x strips will be your best friend. Pack them to take with you to hospital. -walk, walk, walk, walk. As soon as you can. Bug your nurses if you need help getting up. -ask your doc if you can take crushed pills (any of your regular pills) in applesauce. My doc suggested Greek yogurt and I couldn't do it. Was way too bitter. Applesauce made a world of difference. -if you are a side sleeper, I found putting a pillow under my belly while sleeping helps a lot. -to stay hydrated, I take 3 sips every commercial while watching TV. I sure don't want to end up back in the hospital for dehydration. -it may be tough to get your Protein. I have no appetite. I freeze my shakes and eat them like ice. Helps some. I know I'm just a few days out, but these are some important things I've learned. Hope it helps someone else. So excited for my new journey!

    Holiday Challenge!

I'm in! Just had surgery on the 22 so this will be great for me. Thanks!

Just had surgery. Things I learned

My stomach was completely empty. It was just really stretched out. I don't freeze the protein in ice trays, but that's a good idea!

Just had surgery. Things I learned

My preop diet was protein shakes, sugar free Popsicles, broth and water. I weighed 314 on surgery day. My doc said my liver was probably even bigger than that before preop diet. She said my stomach was huge, too.

Just had surgery. Things I learned

Pain is really not bad at all. I had the morphine pump in the hospital that I used a lot. Doc sent me home with this really cool pump that I just remove when it's done. She said it helps the incisions. I have only taken pain meds twice since I've been home, and last night was more to help me sleep. I'm sore getting up and down, but it's not painful. Oh, one thing I didn't realize was how sore my entire body would be. Not my surgery sites, just my body. Like I had worked out really hard or something. But that's better today.

    DVT found in Pre-Op testing

So sorry about your bad news. Just stick to all you have learned the past 6 months, and you will probably still lose before your new date.

    Two Days Till I'm Sleeved

Just had surgery on the 22nd. So glad to be on the other side. Hang in there. It will all be worth it!

    I didn't give in!

I'm having surgery on on 10/22. I had to do two weeks of liquids beforehand. ALL liquids. While I have not been perfect, I have been pretty close. Tonight I had to go grocery shopping for the family. (Yes, that's so fun to do when you can't eat any of it!) Anyway, I was starving while in the store. So, I decided I could make a small salad at the salad bar and that wouldn't be too awful. I grabbed the container and filled it fill of healthy choices. No croutons, no crackers, no ranch dressing. I put it in my cart and continued shopping. I started thinking about that salad and being 3 days from surgery, and if it was really worth it. I decided it was not worth it and I didn't take the salad! I felt bad for wasting that food, but I would have felt worse if I had eaten it. I must say, I'm rather proud of myself.

    APPROVED!

Congrats Nate! My surgery is tomorrow. I am only having to stay one night. Why are you having to stay so long?

    Purpose of weigh ins

Most insurance wants to make sure you don't gain any weight. Some require you lose a certain amount before surgery. Some doctors also require a certain amount of weight loss.

    Two Months From Today

My surgery is in the morning. I started the journey last year but stopped because I did not feel comfortable with the doctor I first picked. Fast forward 7 months later and I found an amazing surgeon that I have complete confidence in. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, hbp and fatty liver. I am doing this to not only change my life, but to save my life. I'm a little nervous about surgery but no regrets with my decision. Good luck to you!

    Your choice.

I chose the sleeve for many of the reasons others have listed. I am right on the border of sleeve or bypass being good options. I do have many issues like diabetes, hbp, sleep apnea but I just don't want my insides rerouted. I like the idea of less restrictions with the sleeve. I do not want to forever have to crush my pills or worry about dumping syndrome. I also don't want to have to worry about vitamin deficiency. For me, it was an easy choice.

    OVER 300 lbs

I am sorry if you took anything that was said as "poking fun". I cannot speak for everyone else, but I know that was never my intention. I just know, FOR ME, if I only had 40 or 50 pounds to lose, I would be doing something else besides surgery. I too, have diabetes so I totally understand where you are coming from on that. It is a horrible disease and I cannot wait for it to be behind me. I am in no way jealous of you or anyone else for that matter. I am more than supportive of everyone I come across going through the same journey. I was just stating my OPINION. I am sorry if you took offense to it. Good luck in your journey.
