My pre-op diet is liquid only for 14 days. HA. I had nothing but headaches the first 3 days. The second day after crying, I allowed myself campbell soup with a few noodles. That satisfied the edge. Then after reading posts on here, I have allowed myself chicken noodle soup (homemade with carrots and very little noodles, tiny pieces of chicken), only had 1 cup of soup. Today I allowed myself 1 chicken tender for lunch. I know I need to buckle down and do liquid only as the surgery gets closer, but so far when I have cheated, it hasn't been carbs nor fatty things. I am cheating with a piece of chewable protein. Oh yeah and I suck on an almond once in a while.

I was told 7 days prior to surgery only to take tylenol. Anything else will thin out your blood and can cause a lot of bleeding and loss of blood during surgery. Trust me, I wasn't thrilled to hear this, I suffer from migraines.

8 more days to go before the big day!

More nervous than excited. This pre-op diet has been a huge bummer. Today is my 7th day (14 days total) and I just woke up with a protein shake strike. I refuse to have milk and chalky protein today. So I have been sipping on chicken broth and let a noodle or two slip into my mouth when no one is looking. (lol) But have been pretty weak. I know my protein intake today is bad. But I just need a break. Can't handle it.
So that brings me to the surgery. I am nervous, very nervous. But at the same time I want to get it over with so I can move on with my life and bring some kind of normalcy back. Even if it means eatting a spoon worth of food. But at least it is chewing something solid.
I hate to say this, but I don't feel the excitement that others do. I am asking myself why. I really don't know. It is more of a dreadful thing I have to do because it is the last choice at this point. I have failed at everything else. I wish I could feel excited.
But my will is made of iron. Because I sat across from my boyfriend today at the mall why he pigged out in the foodcourt and I sat there staring down at my phone so I don't look at his food. He offered a piece of pitty chicken and I said no thank you.
I am trying!

Fear of weight loss making me ineligible for surgery
Pac-woman replied to pindoctor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember my first two visits to the nutritionist, and I was doing good, I lost 7 lbs. And when I told her on the third visit, she kind of mentioned " oh that is great news, but you don't want to loose too much right now" and she changed the subject. I took that as a massive hint. So I pretty much maintained my weight the same (not hard for me to do cause I retain a lot of water). I was careful with what I was eating but not in a "diet sense". I was learning and applying it daily, but I was eating my carb in a normal portion. I maintained the weight. -

25 days liquid diet is so unrealistic if you ask me. I mean, come on. These doctors know that we already have a eating disorder of sorts. What makes them think that we can do 25 days liquid only at 100%? Really. The body goes into shock I think. I have 14 days of liquid only. I have to admit, i snuck in Soup with light noodles (very little) so I can function. I know 5 days before the surgery I will buckle down and do shakes only. But that will be very hard. I suffer from headaches as it is and doing math all day on shake nutrition is going to suck big time. Not to mention I will have an interview as well. I am going to sound like a babbling idiot I am sure. lol -
Anybody out there doing strict liquid pre-op diet and is shaky, weak, and moody? I am on my third day.

@@BLERDgirl was it an all liquid diet? -
I have the Blue Cross Blue Shield- Highmark and I don't think you have anything to worry about. I was on a supervised diet for 6 mths and all I was able to lose was 5 lbs and I gained it right back. On my last visit, I lost the 5 again. I know it is Water weight because I retain a lot of it. You will be fine. Just follow the criteria they require. I do believe is 6 mths of dietician visits (consecutively) and psych eval. BMI is 40 plus or 35 with other health conditions. As long as the dietician puts in her notes that you are trying hard and understand the changes to come, etc....you should be okay. My approval took 2 days.

Metamucil capsules

Hello there. I actually started to add Benefiber powder to my Protein shakes. The reason for this, not only will it make you feel full (besides the protein) but it will regulate you. I noticed on my first day of pre-op diet that my stool became runny by the end of the night. Then runny the next day. Well, you know what they say...liquid in, liquid out. So I decided to start adding Fiber to it and so far it has helped my stool issue. I am no longer runny. May happen once in a while of course because your body is burning fat and releasing chemicals in your blood. With that being said, drink lots of Water. You can put the tasteless powder in water as well. This is the one I am talking about: http://www.soap.com/p/benefiber-unflavored-stick-packs-unflavored-1113464?site=CA&sku=ANV-163&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_S&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=ANV-163&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw=&CAWELAID=500001850000501913&kpid=ANV-163 Goodluck! -
Hello all. I have to ask, after surgery, can one go to the bathroom without help? I find it very humiliating having someone else help me clean up in the bathroom.... What has been your experiences?

Awesome app for calorie counting!
Pac-woman replied to 2NewBeginningsxoxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use "My Fitness Pal" App. My dietician recommended it and it is very good. It has a barcode feature so you just scan the barcode and it will give you all the nutrition info. Also, you can enter recipes and it will calculate everything for you. It will also count your exercise and incorporate it into your numbers. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ -
My Dr's post op diet EXTREMEMLY conservative
Pac-woman replied to HMR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@HMR That does seem extreme. I haven't had the surgery yet (soon) but my post op, the doctor has the patient starting on puree on day 3-4 if tolerated. -
@@bobbyswife HI there, thank you for offering that is very nice of you. But I already purchased one via Amazon tonight. I am trying to get ready as my surgery is coming up in one week. Thanks again!

I have an issue with swallowing pills. I can't imagine it is going to be easier after surgery. Is there a good pill crusher that someone can recommend?

@@SuperDave Thanks! Actually I just finished purchasing that one through Amazon.

Bathroom Situation ?
Pac-woman replied to Pac-woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really? That is great to hear! I fear the pain a little. So hearing that makes me feel better...Thanks! -
I wouldn't worry to much about it if I were you. Even though you may have had a BMI less than 40 2 yrs ago, still the factor remains there is an issue. Clearly you did a diet program and gained it back and plus a few more. Also, with the weight now, I am sure you probably have other health factors that will contribute to red flags. Samples are " Depression, high blood pressure, swelling, headaches, etc" The health plans make it a little harder as to falling into the required criteria because they want to make sure that you are a candidate, they are not waste their money on someone who is not going to follow through, plus run any risks. As long as you go through all the steps they require you should be fine. Believe me when I say, they much rather pay for this surgery and get you healthy, then keeping you overweight and have more issues in the future which inturn will cause you to be a high utilizer of the insurance benefits and that will hurt their profits and margins. (I work for a health insurance plan) Just make sure you cross your Ts' and dot your Is' and follow the rules. The insurance plans through the year have come to terms with obesity and how it is a deadly disease. The surgeries have been successful for many. The ratio is higher on the positive side.

Bathroom Situation ?
Pac-woman replied to Pac-woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All these responses are surely good news. It would be really humiliating I think. I know what I go through with my mom at the nursing home and I have to clean her when i bring her home for a visit. It must be humiliating for her and was hoping I don't have to go through the same thing. I wonder if they give you some kind of belly belt that will help the pain if one has to cough or sneeze? Do you all know? -
I am waking up with a headache so bad that it feels someone hit me with a bat. I have been taking motrin or migraine exedrin everyday. Really starting to second guess this whole thing.

I just came back from a 10 day vacation and you know I splurged. I didn't over eat, but I ate everything that is possibly bad for me. I guess you may call it the "last supper" syndrome. So today I started my first day on the "pre-op" diet. I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. As a snack I am going to allow myself a cup of Soup (cream of chicken). Technically, my pre-op diet is 14 days long and nothing but Protein shakes, sugar free liquids and no caffeine. So I am sneaking in the cup of soup in there because I need to taste something other than chalky Protein powder & milk. I am going through mix emotions. This morning I was so hungry that I was regretting the pre-op diet and surgery. I was in my "F***it" mood. But I stuck by it and in a very grumpy mood I did my shake. Then for lunch I took an "on the go" shake. I had errands to run and I felt energetic, and light. I felt good. Then when I return home, I know it is dinner time and my boyfriend needs to eat. So we went to do light groceries. You know, it is amazing what you take for granted! I don't eat fruit, I was staring at that banana as if it was talking to me. Then I glanced at the oranges and said to myself, damn that looks good. Then I looked at the hummus. I hated hummus. Well, guess what? I could eat hummus with a shovel right now. Wheat crackers, wheat bread, soup, lean turkey. GOOD GOD, why have I been so bad? Why did I not eat healthier before? So here I am waiting for my boyfriend to pick up his deli sandwich and I am staring at the olive buffet.(different kind of olives, self serve). I tell my boyfriend..."What I would give to suck on a big fat olive!" So not fair. So in the car, as we were going home I was thinking....you know? This sucks. I am basically punshing myself. I have been such a bad girl with my eating habits all this time that now, NOW I am going to punish my body by starving it into protein shakes and cutting up my organ. What kind of Sh**T is that? I pout. (notice the negativity kicking in) I came home and to be honest I have had the runs. First day on pre-op and nothing put protein shakes and I have the runs? Why? Is this normal? Anywho- I come out of the bathroom all grumpy and my boyfriend is scooping chocolate protein powder in a glass and I asked him what was he doing? He said "making you dinner". And he did. I have been drinking it sitting on my computer why he endulges on a deli sandwich in the living room. I cannot sit with him right now. But the shake did take the edge off. Tommorrow is my first day back to work and it is going to be very challenging to say the least. UGH.

I know the feeling. This is my second day and i was in tears. I broke down for Campbell soup. How solid can a wet noodle be? Headache is relieving as i sip my soup.
