    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

The swelling that caused an obstruction is opening up thanks to the hospital treatments. I got the horrible NG tube out this morning. I also had a bowel movement this evening. It's looking like I'll go home to my kitties tomorrow. Sent from my moto g pure using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op day 4 complications

I'm still at the hospital. This blasted NG tube is kinked and may have to come out and a new one put in. I'm having another fancy swallow test in a few hours. I can tell the obstruction is still there. Sent from my moto g pure using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my revision surgery March 1st, went home on the 3rd and went back on the 5th thanks to a bowel obstruction. I'm one of the rare people who experience a bad reaction. We're hoping steroids and time will take away the swelling that's causing the obstruction. Pay attention to the warning signs they tell you. My surgeon gave me a big magnet with instructions of what to do. I did just that and called the on call surgeon, who sent me to the ER and ordered a CT scan. On the plus side, no more GERD! 4. This past Tuesday I had my revision, sleeve to bypass. During the leak test we discovered I have very slow motility of my esophagus. My surgeon thinks this will correct itself as things from my revision heals.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I'm home!! Surgery went well, but I had to stay an extra day because my new pouch was quite swollen and I had a ton of drainage in the drain my surgeon put in my abdomen. The only narcotic I got the whole time there was 1 oxycodone the evening after surgery. Otherwise I was given timed non-narcotic pain meds that worked great! I'm on them (Tylenol and Flexeril) for another few days. And because constipation is so common I'm on Colace twice a day for 30 days. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

My surgery was long but went well. I'm not in a ton of pain thanks to scheduled pain meds, I only took one oxycodone. My leak test this morning showed the barium was still in my esophagus more than 10 minutes after I drank it. I got a dose of steroids to get rid of the swelling. I'm not surprised because I had the same thing happened with my sleeve. It looks like I'll be spending another day here Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

The final countdowns have begun for me. After 5pm only clear liquids, at 6pm I'll call the scheduling line and get my arrival time, then I'll take a shower with the special soap and put the nausea patch on. Then it's chill time with my kitties until we go to bed. I need to wake up about 2.5 hours before arrival time to drink a 20 ounce full sugar Gatorade then take another special soap shower. As one wise anesthesia doc told me, if you're going to have a reaction or complication, the hospital is the best place for it to happen. They keep such close watch on every little thing so they can take action at the first hint of something wrong. During surgery you have anesthesia, the surgeon, the surgeon's assistant, and nurses all dedicated to keeping you safe. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    First time

I had the sleeve done 7 years ago and developed horrible GERD with extensive esophageal damage. Tomorrow morning my surgeon is revising me to bypass as it offers the best chance to get rid of the GERD. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

When I had my sleeve the first few hours were the worst part, but that's when they have the best drugs available to help. Once I got comfortable in a bed the pain got better and then got a whole lot better after I got moving around. I'm hoping my revision Tuesday goes about the same. Look at these lovely flowers I just got from my church. A fellow church member just delivered them (I've been watching online in the weeks leading up to surgery). These flowers were in the sanctuary during service then cut down and brought to me along with a lovely card with prayers and well wishes. Mr Izzy loves flowers, but thankfully doesn't eat them. I am super super excited!! I'm having trouble sleeping at this point. I'm so damn calm, no anxiety. My approval process for revision was around 3 weeks from the day I had the endoscopy to the day I got the phone call telling me the good news. With the kind of reflux damage I have surgery almost always happens. I had a second scope a few weeks ago and the damage had gotten worse, not better. However, the ulcers did heal thanks to the medication they put me on. I didn't really have any food funerals. I had a few things I wanted to eat one last time, but was very underwhelmed with all of it. Yes, there will be some food I'll miss but I've been wanting to get sugar out of my diet anyhow. I'm more ready for the change this time than for my sleeve 7 years ago. I'd love to lose another 25 pounds to get down to 160. I think it's very realistic. Are you having any food funerals or are you kinda sick of food as thus point? Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Long term success

I'm 7 years out and have done pretty good with keeping the weight off. I haven't stayed at my lowest but my surgeon said it's totally normal to gain some weight back. I'm going in on Tuesday for a revision to bypass due to severe GERD. I'd love to drop and keep off another 25 pounds. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Chew on popsicles! They were my lifesaver when I had my sleeve 7 years ago. I stocked up on my favorite sugar free tropical flavors for my post-op revision this next week Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes! I know that feeling so well. I'm not anxious at all, just super excited to get rid of this damn GERD! My hospital goes through great lengths to make sure patients are super comfortable. I had another surgery a few months ago (darn IUD decided to burrow into my uterus) and everyone and everything was awesome. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Mine came back negative! Just a little over 2 days for me. I should be home the next day. Although I wouldn't be surprised if I stayed an extra day due to swelling. When I had my sleeve I had to have a big dose of steroids due to my sleeve swelling so much it took a very long time for liquids to get through when they did a leak test the next morning. I'm bringing my smart phone, an extra long charging cord and my noise cancelling headphones for my entertainment. When I had my sleeve I had other stuff with me but didn't touch it. You'll be busy just sipping and walking. I'm having my revision to bypass on Tuesday and don't have much in my backpack. Pajama pants, underwear, socks, a small bottle of my lotion and the pre and post-op information they told me to bring with. I may add a small thing or two but nothing major. It's still Winter here but I'm leaving my Winter coat at home since it's a super short drive. The less we bring the better! Oh yeah, I am going to bring my own pillow, as suggested by my surgeon's nurse. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
