Just stopping in to introduce myself. I was banded in November of 04 and have lost 63 pounds since then. Still have a ways to go but Lord knows I didn't put it on in a year so I won't take it off in a year either. Slow and steady wins the race......I'd like to have instant gratification but I know that is not possible, nor is it healthy. My Dr and I have worked together on this for awhile and I am happy with my progress and so is he. I have 2 grown children and 9 grandchildren....2 sets of twins in the mix! I am truly blessed with family and they were my inspiration for doing this. I work part time and even that can be a challenge for me on somedays. I am so happy I found this web site. Reading thru the posts has given me a renewed spirit for my new way of life. That's all for now

Hi Karen I live in the Poughkeepsie area...about 55 miles north eats of the city. Thanks for the words of encouragement, today was a bad day for me at work so it is good to see something positive!

When I first had my band and was still in the liquid stage, I got the flu and needed meds. It was on the weekend and I went to an urgent care center that did not know me. I told the doctor and nurse that I needed liquid meds because of recent banding surgery. They wrote the scripts and my husband had them filled at my regular pharmacy. Imagine my surprise when he came home with 4 huge bottles of liquid! Each dose was 3 oz! The pharmacy had to dispense the childrens liquid and the amount I needed as an adult was large......it would have taken me forever to consume that much back then. Now I can laugh about it but then I was very annoyed. I called my regular dr on Monday and got the correct medication in an adult crushable that was fine. There is humor in everything!

Possible Ice Cream Substitute (low cal per high volumn)
Grandma9 replied to Marimaru's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A question for i2candoit..... Why add sugar substitute with the sugar free Jello? Isn't it sweet enough without adding the extra? Thanks for the great idea! Sounds wonderful......and legal! -
Hi Tina My surgery went very well...I did same day surgery actually. I had to be there at 5:30 Am, was the first on the OR schedule and was home by 5PM. My surgery was in November...right before Thanksgiving. No Turkey dinner for me! I was and am very pleased with the entire office staff at Dr. Kwon's. I would recommend them to anyone.

You are right Theresa. Eddy's makes an awsome sugar free triple chocolate ice cream as well....just have to eat small amounts because of the fat content but sure does satisfy the craving for chocolate.

I have been using the Advant Edge Carb Control shakes. 11 oz has 100 calories and 15 Grams of protien and only 1Gram of impact carbs. I put it in my blender with 10 or so ice cubes and it becomes a thick, eat with a spoon treat....almost like a milk shake but legal! I've tried the french vanilla, chocolate fudge and the strawberry and they are all tasty. Hope that helps a little! -
Congratulations! Welcome to a new life! I had most of those symptoms after surgery also. Walking helped me a lot to pass that gas. The hubby gave me a few excellent back rubs also! I was only allowed to have diluted apple juice, Water or diluted gatorade type drinks for the first week. Maybe the broths are creating some of the gas....try to dilute them a little, it might help. I didn't have Jello until after the first week and even then I let it disolve before swallowing. I think that was fear more than anything else. Good luck.

I had that happen when I took my grandaughter out to dinner. She had been asking to go to Olive Garden. I figured I could have the Soup and salad combo.... The salad got stuck and out it came. Like you I had plenty of napkins and no one even knew what had happened. I did excuse myself to the rest room for a refreshing splash of cool Water, but when I got back to the table all was normal. I ate a small amount of the soup, no more salad and no breadsticks. Even the larger pieces of ingredients were left in the soup bowl. The best part was that I was fully satisfied, as was my grandaughter who ate some kind of shrimp and Pasta dish woth lots of salad and breadsticks. She is 5'1 and weighs 100 pounds soaking wet so she can afford it! -
I did most of my pre-op testing in my hometown with Dr's of my choosing. However I had the psych eval with one of the 2 choices they gave me. I also met with the nutritionist that they recommended. I'm not sure if I could have chosen a different one for either of those testings. For me it was just easier to go where they suggested. As for the timeframe..... You need to have all of your test results to the office, lose at least 10 pounds between consult and appointment to setup the surgery and then you're all set. Mine was about 5 weeks from start to finish but I know another person that was a lot longer just because he couldn't get his testing done. I know a woman that had surgery today and she has only been going for 3 1/2 weeks to his office. It totally depends on your timeframes for testing. Good luck! Keep me posted.

Thanks for all of the great words of encouragement and welcome. Yes the grandkids do keep me plenty busy...they all live around me so I get to see them a lot..(sometimes too much!) I also get to spoil them without the guilt of parenthood. Thanks for the compliment of being so young too! It has been a long time since I've heard that! Although I am feeling a lot younger since losing some of the weight. I have so much more energy than I used to. I actually make the kids tired sometimes! TTYL

It's H-O-T here in NY as well! The news just said it was the hottest day since 2002! All kinds of power outages due to excessive use of energy. I have the air conditioner up to 80 just to take the humidity out of the air but it sure isn't cool in here. I'm so glad I walked this morning instead of tonight like I usually do. Keep Cool everyone.........

I have lost 63 pounds so far and am feeling so much better. I have pretty much not told anyone but family because I do feel it is a personal decision. I am walking more, eating less and saving money at the grocery store! I have always been treated with respect at the Dr. office and have never been embarrased by anyone there. Just wanted to stop in and say Hi! Grandma9 How do you add the tickers to posts here? Thanks in advance for the help!
