Reaching out to any seniors over seventy
Angelyaya5 replied to Angelyaya5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey calling all seniors who have had the surgery or are awaiting surgery... I am over 2 yr. post-op and loving life.... I am 73 and am so glad for a surgeon who didn't look at my age. I lost 100 pounds and could lose another 20, but if I never do....no problem... I do find that I need to remind myself to take my vitamins, and I'm terrible about getting enough protein, so am a terrible role model. I am sure about one thing.....best decision I ever made. My PCP wasn't even supportive of me having the surgery. Glad I didn't listen to her.... Would love to hear from anyone needing support of any form....... You're all on the right path..... -

Reaching out to any seniors over seventy
Angelyaya5 replied to Angelyaya5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all, I was tracking my protein intake daily, but took a break for a couple weeks. Must get back to putting pen to paper. Most of my protein comes from Greek yogurt, fish, protein bars, soups, shrimp, etc. I cannot stomach the protein shakes, it's just the idea of them. If they tasted as good as a thick shake or a Coolatta, it'd be different. -

Good morning all, Would love to connect with any seniors over seventy who are traveling this road. There's probably not a lot of us. For sure, our journeys will differ due to our advanced age. Personally, am not quite two months post-op, but I must say I feel great! Let me know how you're doing, and if there are any issues you need help with. Hope to talk to you soon. Hugs, Jodi

@ Just Watch Me, you are doing great! You've broken the 200 mark. Good for you! I'm hoping I am there before I head off to Florida the end of January. I'm 19 pounds away. I will be 2 months post-op on the 16th of this month. I will be happy not to have to use a seatbelt extender too, used to be so embarassed. I used to dread flying because of the seating and used to have anxiety about it. Hugs

@ Inner Surfer Girl, you made me chuckle. I agree with your posting HUGE THANK YOU'S FOR YOUR SERVICE to all the veterans out there including my husband and two daughters.

Glad to hear you're doing well, every day will get better. Just remember to chew, chew, chew, when you eat solid foods. I have had the "dumping syndrome" several times. You'd think I'd learn......nope! It's all good though! Enjoy your time out! Hugs

HI everyone, I too was Diabetic pre-surgery and on Metformin ER, but since my surgery my BS are normal and no meds. So this is such a plus, because i hate taking any meds. My only complaint is my weight loss is going slow due to my age (very old) and a thyroid condition which affects your metabolism, but at least it's going in the right direction. I feel great and it hasn't been two months since the surgery, so I need to stop worrying about the numbers. I value my meetings with my nutritionist monthly, she keeps me encouraged. I also track my food intake daily on a spreadsheet, so I can keep track of carbs, fats, sugar, calories, and Protein Keep up the good work, everyone, it's worth it! Hugs

Hi Sue, Congrats are in order, you made it to through the light! Now your life can only improve! Drink your shakes, take your Vitamins and try to get some Water in. Each day will get better. I'm 9 days post-op and I feel awesome!. Our goal weight is about the same, maybe we can share each other's clothes, lol. They'll be brand new because we'll have to buy all new ones. Remember, purple is my favorite color and anything black, oh yes, and I love glitter. Not gaudy though! Hugs, Jodi

@ Alorale, you're doing awesome, you must be proud of yourself! Congrats @mightyschratt............... Good for you, remember, our weight isn't going to come off as fast as the younger generation, but that's OK, cause not only are we getting older, we're getting better Hugs, Jodi -
Hi Clara, You're gonna rock this! Have a support system in place for when you come home, take your Vitamins as instructed and get your 45-60g of Protein in daily. Keep us posted and good luck and God Bless Jodi

Am I selfish for wanting bypass?
Angelyaya5 replied to mamamia86's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey Mia, No need to explain, you just want a better quality of life, nothing wrong with that. If the 86 in your name is your birth year I could be your grandmother. LOL Have a great day! -
Am I selfish for wanting bypass?
Angelyaya5 replied to mamamia86's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Mia, I don't see where selfishness comes into this. You want to feel and look better, and you know that having the surgery will do both these things. I am much much older than you and I am 1 week out post-op from the by-pass surgery. No problems encountered and I had diabetes 2 and high blood pressure. My diabetes is gone, no meds needed and I suspect as I lose the weight my meds may decrease in strength or disappear. No matter what, I intend to follow the program, and look forward to buying new clothes and become a diva! -
Please tell me this stall will pass ( I know it will, but I need some good vibes!)
Angelyaya5 replied to MissAriadne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice, stay away from the scale for a few days, follow your program and then weigh yourself maybe on Monday. I'll bet you'll see a surprise. Good luck -
@@willstride and others having surgery..... you're gonna rock this..... it's normal to be nervous, but look how far you've come already just to get to this day!!! You're gonna do great, and every day will be better than the one before! I am a week post-op and every day I feel a little stronger and better. Will be awaiting news from you after your surgery. Good luck and God bless Will say general prayers for all who are at this point. Hugs, Jodi
