Will I be a horror story?!
laurenella82 replied to ridingrae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree, we can't tell you how it will turn out for you. I do t even know how if will turn put for me. But what's helpful, at least for me, is knowing almost the full spectrum of what could happen. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I see a lot of that here. A friend of mine who is 8 months post op told me just today to have realistic expectations. For me that's valuable advice! -
Congratulations!!

I was thinking the same thing! It would be cool to do it by location so we can meet each other and swap/sell to each other. Like a pop up shop.

Calling January Sleever????
laurenella82 replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there is caffeine in them they may be a no go right after surgery. I saw another post where someone mentioned they could finally have caffeine and that person was 11 or 12 months out. -
...Ran into a complete stranger in the grocery store and had a conversation about Protein and thought, "I wonder if she had WLS"? I swear it happened to me today. I was at food Lion in Massanutten and this lady and her kids came down the aisle where the yogurt is. I had some light and fit vanilla in my hand and she asked me how it was. Told her that I mix my PB2 chocolate in it and put it in the freezer and it tastes kind of like a Reese cup. She said she doesn't really eat PB anymore and it's hard to find good protein that doesn't have peanuts in it.....I soooo wanted to ask her if she had it.

That's the one. I bought three tubes of it hoping it would be good. It's not completely disgusting but not at all the best thing. I think it says it has milk in it too which I thought was the reason for the thickness. Have you ever put it in water or something to thin it our change the taste a little?

I don't like protein shakes mostly because they are usually chocolate or vanilla and almost always chalky tasting. But I did buy the Atkins pre made shakes (cafe caramel and mocha latte) and I kind of like them. Probably because I'm a coffee drinker and they have coffee in them. Probably not good for after surgery but for the pre-op stage it's not bad. -

Help! Undesirable pre-op labs
laurenella82 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I had my ultrasound to check for DVT the tech said that it used to be normal to put some kind of filter in to catch clots but not everybody needed them so that's why they do the tests first. If they find that you clot easily they can take proper precautions prior to or during surgery. -
Sexy mamma!!! Congratulations! You loom amazing!!!

Do you remember what they were called? Or were they in a bottle like the 5hr or a plastic tube?

I'm thankful for my son! 3 years old and soooo stinking adorable! He wakes up every morning with a smile on his face. He greets me after school with a great big hug and kiss. No matter how trying my day has been, even when he contributes to the frustration of my day, he ALWAYS makes it better by being his smart funny sickeningly cute self! (I usually don't talk about how cute he is but I haven't seen him since yesterday day around noon and it's him like crazy!) -
If you weren't obese "all" of your life, what is it that caused you to become obese ?
laurenella82 replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Low self esteem. Possibly some depression, though I was never diagnosed with it. I was always thicker than my friends but I didn't know until around 11th grade (weighing in at about 175-180 at 5 feet even ) that it was just how I was built. I've never been "skinny". I always thought I was fat because I didn't look like my friends and my family didn't exactly tell me otherwise. I developed a very poor body image and though that since they say I'm fat I should just accept it. BAD BAD BAD!!! The summer between 9th and 10th grades I went from a woman's size 8 to a woman's size 14 and my dad dragged me to Weight Watchers. I did WW off and on from 10th grade until about 2 years ago. I lost but always gained back plus some. After I had my son 40 pounds vanished into thin air ( seriously! I gained no weight during my pregnancy and 2 weeks postpartum I was 40 pounds down) went back to work and was reminded if how much I hated that job and gained about 70 pounds smh. Now at 298 I can't wait to claim my seat on the loser's bench!!! -

TriCare WLS Prerec Experiences?
laurenella82 replied to wifeaf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And there's the real down side to surgery at a military hospital. If you can find a civilian surgeon working from a military hospital that may be better. I mean if you're gonna pay to travel maybe you can still get the surgery free. -

TriCare WLS Prerec Experiences?
laurenella82 replied to wifeaf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to work for the military medical system. One good thing to remember with them is that the military hospitals make their own rules. So if you call Tricare directly they may give you completely different information from what the base hospitals give you. Be blessed! -
Why is my Pre-op diet so long?

Why is my Pre-op diet so long?
laurenella82 replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just a cardiologist and I had to have an ultrasound of my legs to check for DVT. And the regular Nutritionist and Psych eval. When I started I have myself the goal to have everything done by the time I had my last nutritionist appt. which is the 4th. My psych eval is the last piece abs that is scheduled for the 2nd. -
Fuzzy navel should be peach tasting ( I'm a bartender on the side lol) I'd like to try that though.
