I'm 65 1/2 out 14 weeks post op. and I feel great! There are times that I wish I could eat more but realize that the man size meals I used to eat is what got me up to 207 . 5' 1" is a bit short to carry around all that weight. My surgery was March 3rd 2015 with Dr. Archer in Bend, Oregon. My surgery weight was 193 and today I'm 159 and loving the energy and finding sales for new cloths. I only shop sales because my size changes almost every other week. Before surgery I had stress incontinence (coughing, laughing or sneezing) and having to get up in the middle night to use the bathroom several times. All that is gone! That is amazing all by itself. The only regret I have is not doing the surgery sooner, I love my sleeve. I'm back to living life! Now that its summer I've been biking, walking and kayaking as much as possible. -

I'm 65 and had my surgery on March 3rd. I've lost 28 pounds since surgery. I started at 207 then by surgery day I was 193. I keep my calories at about 600 to 650 per day. If I ate less I would lose faster but I would feel weak ish. So by keeping my intake up it helps me lose a bit slower. I'm not in a hurry I'd rather feel good while the pounds come off. I walk 3 miles a day keep active. I feel fabulous! Surgery was a breeze, I had a hiatle hernia repaired at the same time. That was the only thing I felt a little discomfort from besides the co2 and thatcwent away quickly. It wasn't anything I needed pain meds for. My scars are tiny, less than 1/2 inch in size. Regrets? I have one...... why didn't I do this sooner? Love my sleeve! -
Well Tuesday will be one month post op for me and this issue has really changed. I can go for hours without searching for a restroom and not getting up in the middle of the night. I get to sleep all night too.

Had my VSG 3/3/15 I have noticed that I don't get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I last longer when out and about. So something has changed with weight loss.

Full liquid diet.... any new ideas?
k9nana replied to k9nana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my support group the other night and found out that being on the full liquid diet I could have smoothys and soup as long as its strained and has no lumps or seeds. I'm so happy! I had vegetable soup today that I blended to a smooth cream soup. Delish! I really needed the change from protein drinks and the Unjury soup. Even though the Unjury is ok I needed a change. -
I'm done going through this procedure
k9nana replied to humblestar25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@humblestar25 before my surgery on March 3rd. I used "my fitness pal" on my smart phone and lost 17 pounds on my own keeping under 1200 calories. I'm 5' 1" and started out at 207. I had second thoughts about surgery since I managed to take some weight off. But then remembered that I always can get the weight off but never keep it off. Had I backed out of my surgery plans I would have stuck with my fitness pal. Good luck to you. -
???? Calling all March Sleevers....let's support each other!????
k9nana replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jebv1949 my surgery was March 3rd. and was pretty uneventful too. Very little pain except for the hiatal hernia repair and that was not bad just an inconvenience. The whole experience was amazing! My surgery was done using a robot, I don't know if that made a difference....... no pain, tiny incisions and no bruising. I was very surprised. Now to get through one more week of the full liquids diet. -
Full liquid diet.... any new ideas?

No soft food for me yet. I get to have it at 3 weeks. -
@@bls01 I really think it's wrong for an insurance company to dictate which surgery you can have. I would see if you can appeal this.

I've been on the "full liquid diet" for about a week now, my surgery was 10 days ago. At first it was pretty good but now I'm so sick of the sweet shakes. Ive tried diluted ones with water and milk and still can't stand them! My calorie intake was way too low and I was feeling really weak. I need to up my calories. I decided to try the Unjury chicken soup with Swanson chicken broth, that really hit the spot! It was really savory and satisfying. Since then I have added tomato soup to it. Last night I made tomato soup with non fat milk and added the Unjury 1/2 scoop unflavored protien powder, that was really good too and today had strained cream of chicken soup mixed with non fat milk. I heated it, strained it and then added 1/2 scoop of the protien powder. Remember the 140 degrees rule. And one other find, Bariatric Advantage "Orange Creme" not sickening sweet. I mixed with non fat milk and ice in my Magic Bullet...... so good! If anyone has some recipes to help get through the " full liquids " phase and keep our protien intake up please share.

Looking for friends my age going through the same.

@@Babalou Thank you for asking, I'm doing fine. It's gotten easier to get water down, sometimes too easy. I want to drink too fast. The shoulder pain is just a memory now. I'm so glad thats gone. I haven't started taking my multi vitamin yet but I know they will be a meal because of their size. They did make me nauseous before surgery so I don't know how I will tolerate them. The biggest thing right now is the protein shakes, thet are sickening sweet. I used to take them along with me on trips as a snack before surgery and liked them. Now I can't get them down :-( Thank goodness for the Unjury chicken soup, that is by far the best one. I hope you are all doing well and are pain free. Overall I think we "60" somethings did ok. -

Thought I'd give an update from my original post " disappointed and hiatal hernia" my sleeve surgery was on March 3rd. The hiatal hernia was smaller than anticipated and all went well. The 5 little incisions are almost painless and no bruising. The only nagging pain was from the co2 they fill you with. My left shoulder was a constant nagging pain for 7 days. I think that my main complaint is....... I now hate the sweet protien shakes! How will I make it another 2 weeks before the next phase?

Gas pains in left shoulder
k9nana replied to k9nana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AmyFromCincy My pain is a sharp nagging pain. I did some research on this and it says....... the co2 they fill you with irritates the nerves that are connected with other parts, they share some nerves like in the shoulder. -

Gas pains in left shoulder
k9nana replied to k9nana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the pain radiates deep in my shoulder and up in my neck. It's a stabbing pain. My new sleeve and intestinal track is in pretty good shape, rarely any gas. I am only taking the liquid pain medicine that the doc prescribed for me only at bedtime so I can sleep. It does help I just don't want to take it very often, that stuff can make me nauseous. I know from past experience. As far as any other pain its really not much except for when I sneeze or hiccup. Thank you for sharing your experience with shoulder pain, I'm looking forward to being without that pain.
