Greatful_Love I feel your anxiety. We are both in the same boat. The surgery is on my mind every waking minute. I'm pretty freaked out by the whole thing but I know there is a reason I've come to this point. It's my last resort for getting healthy. I don't want to be the fat nana any longer. I want to be able to do the things I used to do before getting to heavy and my knees hurting. I want to be able to run and play with my grandchildren. I want this so bad and at the same time I'm really frightened of the unknown. Hopefully on the 3rd. I can report my experience while in my hosp. room and say "it was a cinch!" Good luck to you. -
What were you allowed on pre-op liquid diet?
k9nana replied to asidle82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have one day of the liquid diet that I will start on Monday. I did have to loose 10 pounds before my last pre op appointment, I managed to get off 17 to help shrink my liver. Thank goodness for "my fittness pal" that really helped. But now that I only have a few days left I'm finding myself thinking of a last favorite meal. I wasn't going to have a food funeral but as it gets closer I want to have treats so I have to keep focused and my eye on the prize. -

mar 3 surgery pushed back to Mar 18!
k9nana replied to highdesertblue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That IS disappointing, I know that I would be disappointed because I've been stessing about my upcoming surgery on the 3rd. I really don't need more time to stress about it. I wasn't planning on having any food funerals but now I'm thinking that I might need one. I just don't want to gain any weight between now and next Tuesday. Today I shopped for my post surgery liquids, soups, puddings and jello. I got the sugar free Popsicles too. It's beginning to feel real and scary. Good luck on your surgery, hopefully we'll have an easy time of it. -

amylynns, thank you for sharing your experience and your friend's. I'm happy to hear that you are doing so well. I need all the positive input I can get. The Dr. did say that I might have to be on reflux meds too. He's surprised that I don't have bad reflux now with the size of the hernia but I rarely have refux unless I eat too much. He said if my hernia was any larger he wouldn't do the sleeve. So I guess I'm lucky in that way. -

@@amylynns I'm having the sleeve next Tuesday along with a hiatal hernia repair. The Dr. wanted me to do the bypass because I might have some reflux but I said no to the bypass. I read the sleeve is less of a surgery and since I only needed to loose 60 ish pounds I decided that was the one for me. But I'm still freaked out -

I find these posts really comforting. I go to sleep and wake up thinking about my upcoming surgery and feeling very anxious and stressed until I read what has been posted. Seeing the positive replys and stories really helps. I just wish I could just get over the fear. At least I get to feel braver while being here with all of you. -
I wonder if some people were on the verge before surgery. Or maybe had a problem already. I like a glass of wine now and then but have always gotten tipsy on one glass so I think that I would have to stay completely away from alcohol altogether.

@@A2artgrl I really can relate to your post. In about 9 days I will be on my way. My VSG surgery is going to happen on the 3rd. of March. When I started this research in July 2014 I went to every support group meeting I could find including 2 dr. seminars. I still attend 2 support groups a month. I was instructed to lose 10 pounds by my next dr. visit, well I lost the pounds + more and feel really great but I know what will happen. I always gain it back because i just give up. My quandary is....... I think that I'm getting scared and wonder if I should keep plugging away losing on my own....... only to know that I will fail as I always do. Being 65 this is my last chance to get healthy to be around for a long time ...... I hope. Anyway your post gives me the courage to go forward and to know that I'm not the only one that had second thoughts. -
Anyone have suggestions for preparing for surgery and recovery?
k9nana replied to Bino's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ocean State Job Lot....... where are you in MA I haven't heard that name in a long time. I plan on visiting Blackstone MA. in Sept. My surgery is on March 3rd. and I'm concerned about what my family will say about my weight loss. I haven't told them about my upcoming VSG and really don't want to. I'm hoping that I can get by with just "being on a diet" or " eating healthy" I think its all they need to know. -
The Lucerne lite protien shakes (from Safeway) if you have a Safeway grocery store near you are pretty good. The vanilla taste like melted ice cream and the chocolate tastes like dark chocolate. They have 27 grams of protien.

Looking for friends my age going through the same.

I'm 65 and my surgery date is March 3rd. 2015 I hope to find support and sleeved friends in this age group. When I began the quest for information on WLS it was last July. I have been to 2 dr. seminars, many, many support groups and nutrition classes the phyc evaluation so think that I'm finally ready for my pre surgery visit with the doctor tomorrow. In July my weight jumped to 207 I was told to drop 10 pounds by the next visit (tomorrow) I've managed to get down to 191 -192 I hope that the doc is happy with that, I really worked hard to accomplish that and try to maintain. I'm not looking to be skinny but hope to be a healthy 130 ish. I would like to keep the plumpness in my cheeks and not look any older as it is. I'm doing everything I can inhes to prevent hairloss.i hope that it works. Can some of you long term sleevers offer us new sleevers some words of wisdom? -

Someday I will be saying that I'm (**months out from surgery) I'm excited and scared at the same time. March 3rd. Is my date. I sat down and ordered my Unjury stuff and vitamins yesterday I also made my shopping list for the sugarfree drinks, jello, pudding ect. That will come soon. But the best part was today I treated myself to a shopping spree for cloths that were a couple of sizes too small. That was fun! No need to try them because their too small. Right now I'm in a 16 so I bought 12's in capris and they were 2.99 a pair at Christopher Banks! I got 2 pairs of capris and 3 tops all for 2.99 each!!! All I have to do now is wait until I can fit into them. Hopefull they will fit only for a short time then I'll be looking for smaller ones. For 2.99 maybe I should stock up lol. -
It's Getting Close...don't know if I can do this
k9nana replied to hstrayorn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's never too late to get back on track. One day at a time. I too have been on a diet before surgery and have been using "my fittness pal" it has helped me loose the weight that my doc told me to loose. My surgery date is March 3rd. I'm also scared but at the same time I'm excited about the new life ahead of me. Good luck in your journey. -
I've been using Premier protien shakes from Costco it has 30 grams of protien. It's premixed so no fussing with a blender. I've used it for years as an emergency meal when I couldn't stop to eat. I think it's great and if you try the vanilla you can put some Crystal Lite powder in iyt for a different flavor, strawberry is a good one. My surgery isn't until March 3rd. so I've been trying to figure out what I will need as far as soup and unflavored protien powder. I've gotten some excellent suggestions.

Anyone have suggestions for preparing for surgery and recovery?
k9nana replied to Bino's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for March 3rd. I've been obsessed with research and watching youtube sleevers. I have read multiple books that I purchased on Amazon for my Kindle. They are so much cheaper that way. I have found a wealth of information in the "Big Book on Gastric Sleeve" and so many other publications. The Kindle version is about 10.00 and I've also found some books for 3.99. My question is: Which unflavored protien powder is the best and will I need the giant Costco sack or will a smaller container be sufficient? Is the Unjury brand the best or is it just good advertising? I see Isopure on the list but hear that the isopure drinks are awful. Last question, I'm buying the Unjury chicken soup, will one can be enough? Any input out there? -
Dark rings around some peoples eyes
k9nana posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been observing some YouTube WLS videos and have noticed that some people have really dark circles around their eyes. Both in VSG and bypass patients. Is this from surgery and fast weight loss? I didn't want to ask them and possibly embarrass them but I wonder if this is a side affect. -
My surgery isn't until March 3rd. I have been practicing healthy eating since Thanksgiving. It's hard to do during the holidays but it doesn't have to last for a month. I had 2 days where I made conscious bad choices and that was Thanksgiving day and Christmas day. After that I told my husband to have his junk food when he goes out or when I'm not home. It has been a team effort and has really helped. I think that he is finally on board with my decision to become healthy. When I first started to research WLS I know that he felt threatened and that HIS life would change. They don't undersrand that their life would change with an unhealthy spouse due to weight related health issues or death. Now my husband understands and is being supportive. Concerned but supportive.

My surgeon is Dr. Archer in Bend, Oregon. I just wish that I could get over being scared. Some days are better than others. In a way I would like the surgery to be sooner so I don't have to worry day after day but I don't see that happening. I know that March 3rd. will be here before I know it. Actually I could have had Feb. 24th but that meant an afternoon surgery and I prefer morning. I just want it all behind me.

I've never had them even sleep deprived so I wondered if surgery had something to do with it. Puppypaws, I like that name :-)
