This one's for my husband

eating out will change too... you'll save lots of money. I share with everyone, kids, dh, friends... whomever I go out with I share, or I get a kids meal and barely finish it. I do not however, do fast food. I don't even miss it either.
  2. You know you will change. You will be happier, healthier and therefore more confident. It will show up in your relationship. I don't think you can heal your boyfriend, it sounds like he has been through a lot. You ought to suggest he read a good 'fix-it' book for guys, while you are fixing your health. Just my 2 cents.

    This one's for my husband

I did not want to be tempted to eat the foods so the original plan was for dh to cook for a while after surgery. WELL, that just did not work for us. He tried his best, :cursing:but I finally took over. Kids gotta eat, kwim? I eat whatever everyone else is eating but I just modify my meal. For example, if I am making spaghetti for the family, I have some of the salad, with some of the meat from the sauce & skip the Pasta. I make an 'Italian salad.' It is v. delicious. I don't miss the pasta at all! I do the same with rice dishes. If I make tuna subs for the family, I just have the tuna salad, sans the bread. I can't really digest chicken very easily so if I grill chicken for them I either poach or grill a piece of fish for me. You get the idea. The only thing that has changed is that many times I get up and leave the dining room table. Eating with my family for some reason, makes me eat too fast. :tt1: I get anxious, cutting up food, pouring drinks, etc. Somedays are hectic. A few times I swallowed without even chewing!!! :ohmy:So dh knows if he sees me lift my plate and walk away he takes over. He's been great. I encourage you to bring your spouses with you to all the informational before hand stuff. Yes, things will change, but your health is so important that the changes seem insignificant.

    lump in throat

Since the lap band, not sure exact start date, I've had this feeling of a lump in my throat. It is hard to swallow and rather annoying. Has anyone had this with the lapband? I had an overfill several weeks ago and it seemed to have gotten worse after that.

    lump in throat

Thanks everyone for your input. I went for a fill yesterday, and I mentioned this to the Dr. I did have an overfill at my last appointment and I had to go into his office and he removed some of the fill. I felt relief of course and never mentioned the lump in my throat. So yesterday I did and he said that it may be from my original overfill and that it should have gone down but perhaps I had a bit of damage from the overfill that would heal in time and that I should take some mylanta to help coat the throat. BTW, my doctor uses an xray machine, or I should say a fluroscope (sp?) to do the fill. So he was able to see that the Fluid went down from the pouch OK. Just sometimes it is OK in the office and you go home and it is not. thanks again everyone...
  6. During plateau's I've been counting on some other changes in my body to keep me modivated. Well I'm at one of those plateaus right now. So... I have enjoyed seeing my wrist bones... LOL, and getting up and down much much easier... also I played basketball with my kids and I love playing sports so that is a small start.

Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?

You might think I'm crazy but if your band is too tight you will struggle to get down the proper types of protein. Because you are eating a lot of carbs and with our band, we must eat protein 70+ grams per day and keep carbs under 50, or speak to your doc about the right numbers. My band was rather tight and I had a hard time getting water down but I could eat candy that disolved easily, and believe me after a few days of eating NOTHING, not even protein drinks would go down, I sucked on all sorts of candy, which are high in carbs. Well I dropped 3 pounds in a week, but I was so weak and crappy feeling that I finally went in and had it adjusted. I gained the 3 pounds back PRONTO and have had to work extra hard to get them off, my body shut down to preserve what energy it could . I digress... sorry... my point was, that oatmeal for breakfast seems good, but is really bad for us who are trying to lose weight. Start out with a protein drink...

Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?

I've just spent the past hour (or so:biggrin:) ... reading the nice posts on here. I'm so grateful for this thread. Tomorrow is a fill for me and I almost called to cancel. I'm sitting here with an injured knee and I can't do much which is why I started reading the posts. Anywho, I almost canceled due to knee, and due to my doctor who can be a PITA. :rolleyes2: I think he is v. nice, but he is always on my case. I think he is really a good person and that this may be his motivational technique. Keep your day job doc. I sincerely am doing the best I can right now. I am NOT perfect but I am putting my best effort forth. And I'm having results. This is with PCOS, and according to my surgeon, it is with female pattern obesity, which he sez goes v. slowly opposed to male pattern obesity which comes off faster. Also, after my surgery he told my dh that I had almost zero abdominal muscles. He said that those muscles are your 'core' and set your metabolism, so put all of that together and I'm doing great. I MUST remember to remind him next time I see him. I hope someone out there who is feeling the way I did, reads this thread and sees that we are all different, we have different appetites, different metabolisms and now we can see different fills as well. Keep up the good work all of you, and I hope to get that sweet spot that I hear so much about.

Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?

AMEN! You hit the nail on the head in your post. How are you doing these days? I know this was in January.
  12. Hi David, Sorry you had to suffer so much. I have had 13+ surgeries, gangrene involved, blah blah blah... so I kind of knew what I was up against. I'm so very sorry for you. I will pray that this next surgery will be the last and you will be on your way to recovery. BTW, care to share more of your story for those of us who have already done it, maybe you can spare us. So far so good, weight loss v. slow, but all in all I'm glad I did it.

    Carb cravings

How do y'all handle carb cravings? I'm still a weak ninny. I'm better to be sure than prior to lapband, but geeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzz, when I smell popcorn at the movies I cave.
  14. Hi Zannie... you are adorable! I've read a few of your posts, and I want to keep up with you. Congrats on all you've done. Dr. T at WLSC was my doc. God Bless! Keep it up!!!

    Peace,

    Judy

Monthly weight loss report & goal for next month

I feel your pain. I weigh daily but I only take one weight ... and it happened to be today. I'm the same weight. I am trying not to get discouraged. I have my first fill six weeks out on Dec 13. I wish it were today. I am eating so much less than I have in my life and I'm stuck. My cycle started a couple of days ago, so maybe that is it. Of course, in all honesty, I have not been exercising. I was walking daily right after the surgery, and then I heard walking was not 'exercise' so I quit. Lame.

    Miserable!

Here is an easy Soup recipe laden with Protein. I take some cooked veggies, about 1/2 cup, put them in a mini- food processor or chop, put them in a coffee mug with 1/2 cup chicken bouillon, then I add 1-2 scoops of unflavored soy protein, stir vigorously and microwave. This has saved me many a hungry night. The soy makes it creamy. I sometimes will drop in some garlic/onion, but basically whatever my family is having for dinner I chop up 1/2 cup of that and add the rest. I hope this helps. YOU are not alone. I've said from the beginning, if I didn't have the scars I wouldn't even know I had the surgery! I'm so darn hungry.:hungry::cry

    i'm tired and depressed

Hi, I was going to ask why you aren't supposed to have shakes anymore? I know all the doctors are different. I think you ought to add more protein to your diet. Does the doctors office have a dietitian? If so maybe she could help you tweak your diet a little bit. BTW, I have unflavored soy protein, and I add it to soup, and other things. It gives about 13 extra grams of protein per serving. Maybe you could add 2 protein Snacks per day. I'm glad you are feeling better. Thanks for the prayers.

:whoo:That is awesome!!!!!! Oh Mandy I'm so happy for you all. I remembered to pray for all of you again. I started a while back praying for all obese people, but now I've added my special Lap-Band friends. AMEN! God is good! :clap2:

HarleyN, I have Doctor T. May I ask you if the diet seems the same since you first were banded or has it changed to you think? Nice to see everyone. I'm looking up some sugar-free suckers online. I LOVE those kind with bubble gum in the middle, hoping to find sugar free.

    i'm tired and depressed

I saw the title and wanted to chime in with everyone, but I really have a good life and I should 'shuddup'. Thanks Sue for putting all in perspective. And Mandy and others my heart goes out to you. I will pray for you, that is one thing I do well, so you will be on my list of special intentions.

I kind of had a lightening bolt moment a couple of days ago when my husband brought this mucky watery soup to me with soy protein in it. I was between boiling anger and crying. Then that lightening bold struck me ... and I just remembered all the starvingchildren around the world who would love my mucky soup. Full of good nutrition. Wow. I was so angry at myself. I did cry.

But still there are moments that I'm struck at how sad this process makes me and I know it is just because my dependable food buddy is not here to lift me up. That in itself makes me nuts. That I have depended so much on food for things other than nutrition.

I think when we get this it is like digging into a very messy, stinky basement full of junk. And somewhere way back in that basement is this shinny, beautiful rare gem we are all seeking. We just have to take it day by day, and keep remembering that gem is there.

BTW, here are some of the things I do do feel better, I open all the curtains, shades and let natural light in. If it is not enough I turn on some lights. Also I turn on music, it is known for helping lift the mood. And also if you can get outside that is also a mood booster. I went for a walk early yesterday in the rain. I looked crazy but I just didn't want to sit around and feel sorry for myself. After reading these posts, that is just what I was doing. I promise to remember you all in my prayers today.

Wow Diane, you are more woman than me!!! (Hi btw, thanks for the link I could not find this place!LOL) Seriously I asked my dh long before I was approved if he'd be willing to pitch in and do some cooking. He said sure. And he has been making all the meals since I had the surgery. Of course he took 2 weeks of vacation... he had to take it or lose it. So we'll see once work starts back up. I have to say it is day 8 and I am hungry, and I crave all the stuff they are eating!!! I guess it is hit or miss, I see some are hungry right away and others are not.
  24. In fact I'm up a few pounds. I'm so confused. I track my calories, carbs, Proteins and I'm at 735 calories for today with 95 Protein. I'm so swollen and still very gassy. I just don't get this at all. I'm having a slight panic feeling, like I'm not going to lose. I know it has only been a day. I'm hoping someone more experienced will reply and let me know what is going on. Thanks a bunch!

    Just banded in Hampton

Hi, I was banded yesterday. I can't believe I finally found this board. I met two ladies, Diane and Donna at a support group meeting and now I'm wondering how they are doing. Signgirl and Donnajade... Hope to catch up with you. I'm feeling a little sore... very gassy, and kind of hungry at times. But So far so good. If I hadn't been shown the band on the ultra sound during the swallow test, I wouldn't believe I'd even had surgery. Looking forward to getting to know y'all!
