Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
Hastings replied to crystalcml's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No, I didn't cheat. I reckoned I was worth the effort of following instructions. -
I understand. One of the effects, hopefully, is that people have the surgery and realize that there is more than one acceptable outcome. We all don't turn thin in three months. I'm not losing quickly myself, but I'm satisfied.
-
Denise, I think you are right. Hang in there, you are headed in the right direction.
-
Froggi, people must decide to have or not to have surgery based on their research. Hopefully that research will include some stories that were not instant and easy weight loss. Otherwise that would be like getting married cause your friend had a nice reception and honeymoon. Seriously.

You can get a sleeve, you can have gastric bypass, you can have your lips sewn shut, but if you are unable or unwilling to understand and change your emotional eating patterns, then you resign yourself to obesity. I'm sorry if that seems blunt, but it's the truth. We don't get fat by a miracle and we don't get healthy by a miracle. Don't give up, please. I urge you to find some counseling, find an overeaters anonymous, do something to save yourself. You can do it.

Addiction - the real reason behind obesity?
Hastings replied to abckids's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It seems sometimes like all the issues (control, emotion, history, etc.) and the practice of overeating are all entangled in a large ball and it's hard to find an end to start unraveling. It has been important to me to separate the issues. Some I can control, some I can only control my reaction to. Learning to recognize the first step to the fridge is a big step. I'm doing pretty well in redirecting myself, but I can see it will be a long process. -
I wish you a safe and easy trip, Charlie, and a speedy recovery.

Long Time Bandsters Experiencing Problems?
Hastings replied to starrgirrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Constantly monitoring your body and what you eat and drink is being in sync with your body. Normal weight people do it. It's not magic. It's taking control over your consumption. Good luck to both of you. -
Lies are never good. Even implied lies. You don't have to tell, but I find this attitude a little unnerving. I told everyone.

It's funny, but sometimes I have to treat myself like I am a child who is in my care. I have to say would this be good for her? If the answer is no, the it doesn't happen. It sounds schizo, but it's not, it just takes the personal "I want" out of it for me.

Amaze Rx.....anyone heard of it?
Hastings replied to hotpink_bubbles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One thing that I found so freeing when I decided to get a lap band was to be finally freed from the siren song of amazing weight loss gimmicks. Yes, I knew intellectually that they wouldn't work, but occasionally I would try them. Now I can just kick them to the curb cause I'm doing better than they advertise and the power to lose weight is between my ears and not in some one's cash register. Power to the people! -
Can't stop eating!
Hastings replied to okpunkinpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Often the rumbling in your stomach is not hunger but only trapped air. Hunger is not an emergency for those of us who are fat. I'm often surprised at how people sound so freaked out over being hungry. Drinking Water helps. Eating Protein helps. I get hungry too, but I make decisions about food. If I can't resist it, I don't have it around. Every time you put a bite of food in your mouth, it's a decision you have made. That's how we all got fat. One bite at a time. Hang in there, you can do it. Reclaim your power over food. It's right there waiting for you. -
Unraveling the myth of willpower
Hastings replied to Warren L. Huberman PhD.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Excellent post, Jachut. I went through the same process when I finally successfully quit smoking a year ago - Yahhh Me!!!!. I had a moment when I was waiting to get on a plane (and I'm near phobic about flying) when I decided that having a cigarette would NOT help and that until I quit depending on cigarettes I would never quit smoking. I have lived a generally responsible life, just not where my own health is concerned. Now I am on the way to better health. -
I love our trikke but I'm not so good at riding it yet. I will be though. I'm sure of it.

Keeping the weight off after lap-band removal support thread
Hastings replied to SElaine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, heatcool, I understand, I feel the same about my band, but this is a place for those with difficulties to come and get support. -
It's always important to remember that when we "cheat" we are only cheating one person - ourselves.

You've never heard of carpet in a bath room? Are you in the US? lol:biggrin2: I have two bathrooms that are carpeted and no problems keeping them clean.

Good to see you are about to go home, headhunter. -
That calorie burn must count what you burn just by breathing. I like my pedometer. I just try to make 10,000 steps a day. I too, find myself doing extra stuff.

Does your doctor recommend a high protein/low carb diet?
Hastings replied to Fanny Adams's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My son, who is a diabetic educator, has tried in his best gentle manner to get me to eat a balanced diet. I do. It's fine. -
My friend is losing her mind! HELP!
Hastings replied to princessash2781's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very true and just as it is a huge change for us, it can be a huge change for others in our lives. It is a good idea to remember that. -

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
Hastings replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I quit smoking a year ago. I'd say it's still acceptable to discriminate against smokers. Smoking is still legal. Crystal I've seen women be very rude to other women they thought were thinner, prettier, dressed better, etc. Fat people, myself included, aren't the only ones who suffer from others thoughtlessness. I did have a woman approach me once in after a meeting, I'd never met her, and she said "I used to weigh three hundred pounds, but I had lap band surgery, I can't reccomend it enough." I replied, "Too damned bad they couldn't make you smarter, too." Damn that pissed me off. -
I get hiccups generally when I'm full. It's my "soft stop" signal.
