    Anyone have Dumping Type Syndrome????

I have dumping syndrome associated with a long ago gall bladder removal. I was just noticing the other day that it had disappeared since I was banded.

    Snack Ideas?

I sometimes have the Classic Crab artificial crab meat (made with fish and crab). The leg style is about the size of a string cheese and three have only 90 calories. They come fully cooked. I also make crab cakes with them and have them in salad. Good Omega threes, too.

    I agree SElaine.

Can you buy a wallet/purse card?

Plenty of "normal sized" persons can't eat a full portion at a restaurant in the US. The portions are nearly obscene. Why should someone who had surgery get a cheaper meal when a person who needed no such surgery gets no discount? I just order appetizers or take home the left overs. I reckon it evens out for when I did eat "all I could eat" and paid the same.
  7. Obesity may be a disease, but everytime we put a bite of food in our mouths that is comfort eating or binge eating or just plain overeating, we are responsible. Alcoholics and drug addicts make a decision each time they abuse their chosen substance. We may have a proclivity to food addiction or to eating addiction, but WE make the decision to feed it. I think it's extremely important to claim responsibility for our feelings and our (in the past) poor choices, in the same way we can now claim responsibility for our GOOD choices. Feel the power, babies, it's awesome!!

Where are all of the May Realize bandits?

I don't really think that the make of band makes much difference.
  9. It might be a good idea to also get your daughters some therapy to help them deal with food issues . . . Just a suggestion.

    Calorie Curiosity

I don't so much control how much I eat, calorie wise, but I keep track of it, cause I didn't get morbidly obese by guessing accurately how much I ate. What I am noting is that I have a couple of three hundred calorie days a week (at least) and that isn't particularly healthy.

A whole new way of looking at life

If you are struggling with your emotional drive to eat, then perhaps you should consider some therapy to help you get to the bottom your reasons for doing so. I'm not saying this to be rude, but I really think that getting a lap band is getting a new lifestyle and if you keep that same old baggage around lurking in the corner, it's just the same old #### waiting to happen. Good luck to you both. Yes, I did have some therapy years ago. After losing 60 pounds a man asked me on a date. I said no. Within months I had put the weight back on with extra thrown in for good measure. Therapy did help me deal with it.

    Hair Loss

I have read some research on this and it does appear that it is the body's reaction to depleted nutrient reserves. Some bodys do it and some don't. It will grow back. One study I read said that obese people tend to have full and shiny hair cause it is so well nourished. That would describe mine, all right.

How hungry do you feel each day?

I'm never really hungry, but today I made an interesting decision. At the bakery in the grocery store they were handing out freshly baked Cookies. I turned it down cause I wouldn't have room for my crab salad if I ate a cookie. That's gotta be a big first for me.

    No restriction

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see a few threads about the holy grail restriction. If you had no Fluid put in your band when you had surgery, and many don't, then you won't have any restriction until you start getting fills. It's too bad your doctor didn't explain this to you. Eat sensibly and you will be restricted when you get fill(s). Cheers.
  15. I think I had two weeks of mushies instead of four, but I lingered there for four, I'm sure. I was compliant.

    Calorie Curiosity

I do track my calories and try to make 1200. I usually end up more in the 1000 calorie range simply because I insist on healthy food and my intake is restricted. I record everything and if I wanted to eat a banana split I would but I would record the calories. I have a digital scale that sits in my breadbox and I weigh my food if it's convenient. I'm not stressed over it. I will never again stress over food.

Does Anyone Else Have This Problem?

To be honest, your concern is YOU. It's just like smokers who quit. They become holier than thou. Think back to before you were banded and how you might have resented the behavior you are having now. Just because you are banded doesn't mean you are done struggling. Put a little love in your heart and don't be like those people you couldn't understand before you were banded. You should care about your children's health and weight. I would suggest that you buy the groceries and fix the meals and leave it to your husband to buy the treats he likes. I would never let it become an issue between my partner and I. His body is his business. This is a basic idea that women have been dealing with.

    53 and stuck at a 53# weightnloss

There are some nutritious things that will go down easy, but really if you can't eat, then you are too tight. I just refuse to get my band so tight I can't eat. Try some canned vegetables or get those steamer bags of vegetables and fix those. They go down easy. I cook roast or chicken and make salad with relish, onion, and miracle whip (only 35 calories per serving, I think). I eat it on crackers because I like the crunch. Hummus is good for you and very soft. Keep track of what you eat and start exercising. Hang in there

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I'm by no means an expert on protein. I make sure I get 50 grams a day. It works fine for me. I work out for an hour a day. I have a familial history of colon cancer so getting lots of fiber is important and i have begun to make sure that I do. I'm trying to find a good balance. Just do some research and take into account what your doctor said and make your own decision, after listening to your body, is my best advice.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Belly Off: The Trainer Really, there is a limit to how much protein you need. This is a pretty good short article on protein.

    Diverticulosis and drinking

I try to get 50 grams of Protein a day. I have a morning smoothie that has 1 cup of milk, 6 oz. of nonsweetened, non fat yogurt, and 1/2 of all bran with extra fibre. I have two spoons of benefiber in coffee in the morning. Benefiber is soluble fiber, which keeps food in your gut longer and gels, while non soluble fiber is just that: fiber. It doesn't really mutate much and adds bulk to your digestive tract. Berries are in season right now so I'm going to town on them. I have at least a cup a day of berries. Blackberries are wonderful right now.

  24. When I was on Atkins we strove for ketosis. Bought sticks to test for it, etc. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins and was never hungry. I stayed on induction for almost six months. 20 carbs a day. Of course i gained it all back when my kids talked me out of it, they were concerned for my health. Now I can eat so little that it's nearly atkins, but i get more carbs because of the all bran Cereal and the milk and yogurt in my daily smoothie. My doctor reccomended to concentrate on Protein, veggies and fruit. The hard protein I do eat is all boneless, skinless chicken and fish. Unfortunately so much fish has so much mercury. I wouldn't eat tuna very often at all. I think whatever floats your boat is good, as long as it has some balance to it. Our dietary guidelines are made up by the agriculture department and it has a vested interest in getting people to eat as many servings a day of agricultural products as possible.

    What's on your Playlist?

You might check your public library. Ours offers free audio book downloads from Audible Audio. They are good for two weeks. Some you can burn to cd for storage and some you can'ts. But it's free. I listen to books too when I'm working out. The system that has the audio books is called Overdrive. You can download them at home onto the pc to load onto the mp3 player.
