I called my surgeon and he is scheduled to middle of February. My last NUT consult is Jan. 13th and we can't schedule until after that appt. I've contacted another surgeon for the hernia and I have an appt on Monday the 5th. He also does WLS. Maybe he will get me in and agree to do both asap (highly doubtful but maybe???). Otherwise I think I will be having hernia before I have the WLS. Although we are self pay so doing hernia at the same time would save me a lot of money I believe!

The Dr said I had two but reviewing my discharge papers from ER it shows I have 3- inguinal, umbilical, and ventral. ER did give me a binder which does seem to help.

How I Prepared for Surgery Part 2 - My Mind
Riz2006 replied to Jonathan Blue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wonderfully wrote! Totally saving this so when I'm in my "hell week" I can re read this to get me through! -
Hi all. New here! I've been lurking for a few days. I attended 2 different seminars recently to compare each Dr. Our insurance does have an exclusion on WLS so we are self pay. We have to have some up front and the rest the hospital will do a 5 year payment plan(which we will use some of our HSA to help cover cost). We are looking at 25-28k. The thought of spending that much money makes me cringe BUT it is my life, health, and I want to do it now while my kids are little! DH is on board with me but our only concern really is if 6 months after surgery something medical comes up and our insurance won't cover it because I had this surgery. Anyone have this issue?

Agreed!! maybe even skinny jeans and cute boots, or a marathon, or matching my weight to my drivers license.

I've attended the seminar a month ago and had my first consult with the Dr as well as the NUT. I'm beyond excited to start this process! I will be having Dr. Lalor in Bowling Green and after meeting him today I know 110% he/his staff are a right fit for me. I seriously loved him!! I have 3 more NUT appt so surgery should be in February I would think. I'm self pay so I still have to make an appointment with my family Dr to see if she will run all the lab/test so maybe my insurance will at least pay for that part of it. Let the ride begin!

How much was you self-pay ?
Riz2006 replied to NiecyBelle12's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't got it done yet, my first appt is in 2 weeks, but I will be self pay. It will cost me about $26k. I know it's a lot of money but we just spent almost that on a car so why wouldn't I spend that on my health. -
Butterfly effect- how far of a travel was it for you to go to FL? How did the pre-op testing work? Did you do that local? Did you have to make more then just the surgery visit to FL?

Jamie - I will definitely give my insurance company a call and see what's they say. Thanks for the tip!

I am in Ohio. Mexico is definitely not an option. I'm not against possible other places but really for the extra 10k it's worth it to me to have someone local who I can visit within an hour if I am having issues of some sort.
