Here's my story:  I had the Gastric Band inserted by Dr. Schumacher in 2009. I had a completely successful surgery; I lost 83 Lbs total.

Fast forward 9 years - I've had ups and downs. Unfortunately, I've regained the weight I originally lost (my own fault, learning how to eat around the band, having it loosened for vacations, forgetting/neglecting to get regular fills, etc.)  At this point I am moving forward with revision surgery to do the full RNY (which I should have done in the first place, but I didn't have the support of my family, nor the insurance coverage). I wouldn't necessarily consider the RNY, but because of so much scar tissue around my port I can no longer get fills without going under Fluro, much pain, bruising, breaking needles, etc.So, I have very little restriction at 7cc in a 10cc band. I'm going no where fast.

Dr. Schumacher was understanding and non-condeming of my lack of proper use of the tool provided (the band). I blame myself enough without having compounded guilt from my Physician. He explained that the band works great for some, and for others it's just not enough. Much has to do with hormones like Grehlin and others that signal hunger. We live in a world where we can feast every day. Not like days of old when you ate what you had available, what you hunted, etc. Now it's not just what kind of food you want, but how do you want it. Want beef? Do you want it chicken fried? Stewed?  Broiled? In a taco? Maybe a burrito? You see where I'm going...

So - I will be having Dr. Schumacher do my revision surgery. Hopefully sometime early 2017.
