I am doing the three month diet which is more than just the Dr. supervised diet. It's the presurgical diet. Which costs more and everything. I see the exercise physiligast once a week, the behaivor modifaction specalist once a week, a Dr. once a week, and the dietician once a week. Plus I have weekly group meetings. So I feel that I have done more in the three months than they require for six. So I am hoping that is good enough for them. I don't want to have to wait another three months.
-
Congratulations...Did you do the three month diet or the six month? I am currently doing the three month but I don't know if I need a total of six months or not.
-
Congrats Lonestar that is awesome!
-
Congratulations Special K. I have one question though did you just see your Dr. and a dietcation and had to do six months? Or did you do the multidiscplinary diet for six months. I am doing the three month but worried they will come back and say six. Can you let me know which one you did?
-
Congrats Special K! Way to go! I am glad that Aetna is approving people again. I heard they were getting harder this year but after their changes I think it just became easier for everyone of us! I am on the three month diet and only have 49 days to go! I see the suregon May 16th!
-
I found another change under letter D Member must meet either Criterion 1 or Criterion 2! So that means we can do a three month diet! You have to see alot more people but you only have to do three months instead of six!
-
I just checked on their Clinical Policy and it is true. It does say 2 years instead of five! So they have to take everyones paperwork without five years! That is their policy. They need to follow it!
-
It is now saying on Aetnas Bulletin that you only need two years instead of five! So tell them hey you changed your policy and not I should be approved! They wrote it. They should be following it. Good LUCK!

What if you have one year where your BMI is only 36 but you have other years over 40 with a total of 7years? Will they kick it out?
-
Good Luck I hope you get approved quickly. I have Aetna POS II as well.
-
DWH did you do another diet before the three month to get a total of six or just three months and that's it? I have been told you have to do a total of six months in the past two years.

Hello Eveyone, I have Aenta insurance and my current BMI is 47. I just went to my Dr. last week and he told me to come back in two weeks for a blood work up and a physical. Aetna won't help me to find out if I qualify they say they can't tell me. So I went on there site and pulled the information. I was wondering if anyone has gotten approved without doing either the six month program or the three month program. I want my surgery like yesterday. Any experiences anyone can help me with?:help:

I found out the Aetna has gotten worse this year. They want you to have five years in a row weight history. I think that sucks!!!! However I did find out I went to one Acute Care on 1/13/04 so that might just save me! I start my 3month diet on Wednesday morning.

What insurance do you have? It depends on what the criteria they want you to meet first.

Aetna PPO (Lockheed total fitness)

How did you wife get approved after 3 months? Did she lose weight on the diet? Also did she have the Dr. prescribe and weight loss drugs or did she have to go through an exercise plan? -
I am going through the same thing. For me to do the supervised diet and all the non-sense is around $1200.00 so I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to. I am only missing one year in between but can prove over six years just not all in a row. Good luck!
-
Why did they deny you in the first place? Did you show five years in a row of being obese? I have one year missing to make five in a row but I can show more than that throught my life? Do you think this will pass?
-
Does anyone know if you have to show five straight years of being obese or can you skip years here and there. See I might not have it documented five straight years but I have been obese for about 10yrs. I wasn't seeing my Dr. all the time becuase he would write prescriptions over the phone? Also can I get my weight history from my foot Dr. becuase I saw him for other things that had to do with my weight and my foot?
-
Tomecia that is great news!!! I was worried. I have records from when I was 21 and was really big. Bigger than than I am now! But you just gave me lots of hope!!! Thank you!

Add my name to the APPROVED list :)

:clap2:Well let me be the first to say congratulations!:clap2: I have to ask how did you get them to approve. I have Aetna as well. I have a weight history from 02,03,05,06,07, and will have one for 08. But I am missing 04. Do you think this will be a problem with them? Did you have five years in a row showing you were over weight? I can go back further but I don't have five full years in a row like that. Please let me know. I to need this surgery bad and don't want to have to wait until 09! -
Congrats!!!! I have to ask what proof did you have to give them to show that you qualified? Did you have a five year in a row weight history?
-
I have the same problem with the history. I have about 8years worth but I am missing one year to complete a full five. I to can't exercise because of my foot. All I can tell you is if you have pictures with dates on them you can use those. Otherwise submit what you do have and pray really hard!
-
I have a question. What if you can prove in 98,99,02,03,05,06,07,08 you have been morbietly obese will they still approve you if you are missing one year? I am sure I can find one Dr. that I went to that year but this is what I have proof of right now? Does anyone know if it has to be five straight years?
-
I have the same problem. I would always get a prescription over the phone so I am not sure if they will or won't. If I get the answer to the question I will let you know.

Does anyone know if you have to get a personal trainer for Aetna to approve the surgery? How do they supervise the workout unless you have a trainger?
