Honestly, mine sucked..... My wife and kids left me to go visit relatives. I did not want to be around food nor explain why I am not eating, etc. I stayed home alone and watched movies. I had Water, Soup (cream of mushroom), Protein shake (Naked Juice), SF Jello, New-whey protien shot and more water. -UG

I have been eating Cream of Mushroom Soup. My Dr said to mix it with some non-fat milk to make it a little watery than normal. He also said I can have juice - just to becareful of all the additional sugar added. So I had a Protein shake (Naked Juice). -UG

I am on full protein-based liquids. Soup, broth, SF Jello, shakes, etc. -UG

I was banded yesterday. Everything went real smooth. I woke up at 4am and scrubbed with Hebiclens Anti-bacterial soap. My mother-in-law arrived at 5am to watch the kids. By 530am, my wife and I were going through admissions. I was real hungry from being 'clear' the prior 24hours. By 630am we were in the pre-surgery room getting prepped, meeting with my Dr (Dr Naim), the assiting Dr (Dr Nassarian) and Anesthesiologist (Dr Jackson). Dr Naim told me he was going to try to place a 10cc AP band, however as we had discussed previously, men tend to have large fat pads at the placement location. If he could not get it to work he would opt for the 14cc AP band. By 730am I was moved the operating suite and on the table. I started inhaling the gas and then woke up in recovery. When I came to, it was 930am. While I was on the table, admissions had my wife wait in my room where there was a monitor of my surgery. She watched the whole thing as it was happening. Dr Naim was right by my side as I awoke. The first thing he said was he was able to fit to 10cc AP band. He also mentioned I might not even need a first adjustment - that my restriction may be good. He said I will stay the night at the hospital overnight to recover and have some tests the following day (today). The hospital staff brought my wife down the surgical elevator so she could be by my side as I was taken back to my room. There was ice chips and Jello waiting for me. I nibbled on some ice chips. As far as the pain, coughing and trying to clear my throat hurts the worse. After surgery I had a deep pain below my chest plate. My back and shoulders hurt as well. My wife gave me a little massage which seemed to fix it. I was on Lortab immediately. But by 7pm to something stronger that they injected into my IV line. The nursing staff when I arrived in my room was the WORSE. At one point I was yelling for a nurse to come (the never responded when I pushed the call button). After the shift change, the nursing staff was a 100% improvement. Today I had my upper GI series. I swallowed some dye and they took an xray. I have very good restriction. On film it looked like the size of my IV line. I have had no hunger sensation at all. Today, I noticed my stomach making lots of familiar hunger noise but no urge or sensation to eat. I have to remind myself to 'sip'. I am using a straw to help. Even a small cup of jello is taking me about 30mins to consume (it used to take me about 2 seconds before). I am at home now and waking. I will be on liquids for 2 weeks before I start mushies. -UG

I have 5 sites. 4 tiny 1/4 inch sites and 1 larger 3/4 inch port site. The 4 sites have dermabond and steri-strips. The port site is protected with dermabond, steri-strips as well as a bullet steri protector. -UG

All of a sudden "I'm Scared!"
UltraGeek replied to AllGirlToo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got the 'official' word that I have my surgery date on 12/20 here in Los Angeles. I am 100% committed to the process until I received the call from my doctor this afternoon. Honestly, I am nervous, anxious, excited and at a loss. I think I gave my wife a small panic moment today with my nevousness. She is constantly asking me, "do you think you can lose the weight naturally?" She is very supportive; it just she has never known my pre-obese weight of 225lbs (I'm 6'2"). Oh yeah, and I have Rose Bowl tickets on Jan 1st. Rose Bowl on a liquid diet. I am sure I will make it through. -UG -
Hi Guys! I am new and looking for a good doctor in Los Angeles. I am eager to get started. I initially had a doctor I was working with but got a funny feeling I was being scammed into paying more money after my insurance approved the surgery 100%. -UG

Insurance Approved 100% - Now Doctor wants MORE $$$$?
UltraGeek posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I have really good insurance. I was approved for the lapband procedure and my insurance will cover 100%. I received a letter in the mail from my insurance detailing everything. I received a call from the doctor office late last week telling me that I was NOT approved and that I would need to finance my procedure. I quickly told them that I was in fact covered 100% and that I already new that the Doctor was also 'in network'. Thinking the office assistant was missinformed I asked her to read the letter my insurance sent her and to call me back. The doctors office called me back on Friday afternoon. This time they tell me that the doctors in office surgery clinic is not certified by my insurance and that the doctor is requiring that I pay an additional $8k which I could again finance. I then told the doctor assistant that my insurance would cover 80/20 for an out of network facility and that I find it very hard to understand why the costs were getting so skewed. I told her I would call my insurance and verify everything. I now feel that I do not trust this particular doctor. The costs seem really skewed to me. He wantred $17k for the surgery and $450 for each fill/adjustment thereafter. So I am looking for a new doctor in the Los Angeles area. I have SAG insurance FWIW. -UG -
I have been looking at Lapband for sometime now. I have found a local briatric doctor, Dr. David G. Davty, MD, here in Los Angeles. I recently received approval to have my insurance cover the procedure. So I am at the point where I need to start the process and schedule a surgery date. Although I have done my research, I am a little nervous about the recovery and what to expect. I am currently 38 and 330lbs. I am tall at 6'2 and do carry my weight well. My goal is to get down to at least 225lbs to 235lbs. This is my first post! -UG
