  1. I had the same issues with food getting stuck. I am now almost 6 months out (next week) and I still have to be very careful to make sure my food is moist enough, and to chew VERY well or It will get stuck and I have to throw it up. First of all, I have not been able to eat deli meet at all - no matter what kind or what I put on it, it gets stuck - just like I still can't eat any meat that has a casing on it such as sausage unless I can peel the casing off. I can't eat corn or any other vegi with a tough outer casing. My nut says that I may never be able to eat these foods again because it seems that my pouch is sensative to them and they either get stuck or I throw them up. I have to stick with whoe meats that I cook (make sure not to overcook or I have to put something on it to moisten it) - But I am still drinking 2 shakes a day to make sure that I get in my Protein. I love black Beans, kidney beans, white beans, or really any type of bean that I can get a lot of protein from and you can basically add them to anything in place of your meat - They are easier for me to eat and I feel full after eating them. It is a learning process, so you will have to figure out what works best for you and your body - try new things, you might find something new that you will like better and will be better for you than deli meat anyway!
  2. I am surprised when your periods stopped that your physician did not run blood tests to check your hormones. After I had not had mine for a year, my doctor ran the tests and told me yes I was in menopause! If you are not in menopause, then yes, your period could come back.

    Coconut Oil Post Surgery?

I use coconut oil all the time and have had no issues with it. I use olive oil for cold purposes and coconut for hot cooking. I am almost 6 months out and I have only had one stall that lasted 4 weeks, besides that I average 4 lbs a week weight loss and so the use of these oils has not hurt anything for me. Your body will tell you if you can tolerate it.

    Ladies over 50 - bypass

Post Menopausal Question: I am 5 months post op - This morning I started bleeding after 5 years of no period. Yes - I have called my GYN and am waiting for the nurse to call me back, but I want to make sure It is not related to my weight losst - Has anyone else experienced this? I will tell my GYN about the surgery, but am a little nervous. Thanks,
  5. At 5 months post op, I am still have 2 shakes a day. I can't eat enough to get all the Protein in that is required without it. The way it is, I only eat protein as I never have enough room to eat any veggies unless I eat them as a snack. I also have fruit as a snack.

    5 month post op diet

I am also at 5 months post - I have been stalled for three weeks and decided to start using my Calorie Counter ap for the last two weeks to clock my calories. I am eating between 700 to 900 calories per day, and I still drink two premier Protein shakes per day because I still can't eat much at a sitting. I find that I can eat less in the mornings and by the end of the day can almost eat 5 to 6 oz as one sitting. I do tolerate more foods now, but still can't eat very fast or eat very much. I think we all go through this type of stall as our bodies get used to having fewer calories. Try to give yourself a break, make sure you are exercizing and getting enough protein, try to lay off any added carbs and the weight loss will start up again.
  7. For me, when this happens, it is usually because I - 1. Did not chew my food enough and the pieces are too big, or 2. I ate too fast. I don't think that it is the specific food itself. I have this happen more than I would like as I struggle with eating slow enough, but this is a marathon not a sprint so I just try again and remember to chew well and slow down! Good Luck!
  8. I struggle with eating too fast. Sometimes I have to actually put my plate on the kitchen counter so that I have to get up from the table and walk into the kitchen to take a bite and then go sit back down. When I eat too fast, food gets stuck and I throw up. I am good with portion size, drinking enough Water, and I still drink two shakes each day so I get enough Protein. It is definitely getting easier now that I am 15 weeks out, but just making myself slow down is hard when everyone else at the table is done eating when I have only taken two bites.

    Any swimmers out there?

I am also a swimmer. I had RNY on 1/28 and I was back in the pool after 4 weeks. Before surgery I was swimming 1 mile in 35 minutes. After surgery I was down to about 1,000 yards for the 1st month and then added a 100 yards per week until I got back to the mile. I am now swimming almost 2 miles in the same amount of time! It is AMAZING how much better I can swim with less weight AND I am back in the gym working out with weights again! Give yourself time to get back into the swing of things but you will get there! Good Luck!

    Confused

I agree with the others, at 10 weeks post op, I still can't eat a whole egg at one sitting and still can have problems with it. I have eaten foods one day and then the next time not been able to eat it. I also can eat better in the middle of the day than I can in the mornings and evenings. Also, look at how you are sitting. I found that if I slump I have more problems than if I sit up straight. You will learn how to work it out. You are doing great!

    Stall

60lbs is awesome! I had surgery 1/28 and have lost 38lbs and I am very happy! I have not experienced the stalls and have consistantly lost 1 to 2 pounds per week but I have not had the big losses that others have. I am very happy with the slow weight loss and I think we should always be patient because each persons body will lose weight differently, just keep up the good work and you will get to your goal! Good Work!

    Need a quick answer.

My 1 month surgiversary was this past Saturday and I have lost 30 lbs so far! I am very happy, I think the stomache is still a little swollen for the 1st month or so, I have gotten my behind into my size 12 pants but I can't button them, BUT I am not far out, I have boxed my size 16's and am wearing my size 14's and I am very happy about that but I know that the size 12's are only a week or so away! My birthday is in the middle of March and I am hoping to go shopping for new bras and panties for my birthday! Keep up the GREAT work, those sizes will start to fall soon!

    Knot in chest?

I am starting on week 5 and I am using that feeling to let me know that I am eating or drinking too fast or am full. What I do when I get that feeling is wait 5 to 10 mins, if it does not go away then I am full and I stop eating, if it eases then I try another bite, but a smaller one or another drink. It can be hard in the beginning to get used to the new signals that our body is using to tell us to slow down. I still have issues with eating or drinking too fast. Luckily, I have not gotten sick, but I have been close a couple of times. Keep up the good work, you will figure out what your body is telling you!

    Recipe Sharing

I bought a cookbook on Amazon.com called "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" - It is WONDERFUL!! It has hundreds of recipes and a serving guide for each recipe that tells you how much you can have and if you are in weeks 1-4 how to puree. I have been using this cookbook since day 1 and have been thrilled with the tase and variety AND my husband has even eaten some of the recipes (not pureed) but he like them too! I highly reccommend it - It is so important that we love eating this new way or it will never work for us because we know we had bad habits before. This book is packed with wonderful dishes that will leave you satisfied and you won't crave the bad stuff. Hope you try it

    Entering week 4

I just started week 4 as well. I bought some sliced chicken and turkey at the deli as well as some dill havarti and gouda. I bought 1/4 pd of each. This morning I took 1 slice of chicken and 1 slice of havarti and rolled it - it weighs 1.85 ounces and it was wonderful - I had to eat it VERY slow, kind of a nibble but it was very filling and I can't wait to have another roll later this morning. I made 4 rolls for today at work, that along with 2 Protein shakes should give me all my protein for the day!! YAY! I am going to have the turkey and gouda tomorrow!

    Am I getting protein?

I am also three weeks out and I eat a lot of Beans. White beans, black beans, lima beans, butter beans, you can find them in cans or dried, cook them real good then I put them in my Ninja with a little chicken broth to get them nice and smooth and I love them that way, you can also add some unflavored Protein powder to them to double the protein, I can eat 4 to 5 oz 4 to 5 times a day and get 30-40 grams of protein then I just add one Premier Protein chocolate shake at the end of the day as my treat. I wasn't getting enough protein either until I started eating the beans. It does get old eating the same thing but I keep telling myself it won't be forever and I have already lost 28lbs in 3 weeks so I am happy with that. Do some research online for beans that are high in protein and pick the ones you like, I also like split pea soup which you can add carrotts too for some veggies and it is packed with protein. We have to lean to be creative and think long term. I know you can do this, just get creative! Good Luck!

    Ready to Stop Crushing

I am three weeks out and I am crushing my pills as well and I hate it. Some of them make me gag, I take them with a small sip of Water and then chase that with a spoon full of applesause. I am definately going to ask my doctor if I can stop crushing my pills!!!

    Homemade Pureed Food

I pureed a few things in the beginning but it is just as easy to mash it with a fork than to blend it and then have to clean up. Most things that we can have right now are already soft so it is easy to mash.

    Water vs. Food

There is a phone app called Bariatric Timer that you can download. I am also two weeks post op but I have not had a issue with the timing. Wow thin-for-kidney, you are eating six times a day! That is amazing, I am only eating 2oz three times a day and I have to force myself to eat those three and finish them! I am never hungry and get full real fast. I too am having some trouble getting in all of the liquid and Protein shakes. I get caught up at work sometime and "forget" to drink. I am also still having issues with the supplements. I did find a couple Calcium citrate supplements that I can stomache but they still are not "goog" and I have to force myself to take them at least once, I have yet to take them three times in a day like I am supposed to.
  20. Hi everyone!! This is the first time that I have been on the site since before my surgery on January 28th. Surgery went good, stayed in the hospital for two days and went home on Friday the 30th on a soft diet and very little pain. Saturday was great, I even walked a whole mile, I was feeling good Then....... When I went to get out of bed on Sunday Morning, I hurt my back, and when I say I hurt my back, it locked up on me and my husband had to call an ambulance to come get me because I could not move without screaming! This was the worst pain that I had ever experienced before. The ER gave me a shot and sent me home where I was basically recliner bound for four days only getting up (with help) to go to the bathroom. My poor husband and daughter were having to wait on me hand and foot. I went in for my surgery follow up on Thursday the 5th, and doctor said that I was doing good with my hydration and Protein and keep up the good work, and by the way, sorry you hurt your back. No really, my doctor gave me some more pain meds, told me to keep the heating pad on it and hopefully it would heal quickly. Well it has gotten better since then each day I can do more and more and today I am at work. I don't know if I will be here all day, but I am here. I am eating about 2oz of soft foods three times a day, drinking two Protein shakes a day, and making sure that I drink at least 60oz of Water. Now, taking my supplements is another story---- I hate the taste of my Calcium Citrate. I just ordered two different kinds from Amazon so hopefully I will find one that I can tolerate, the other supplements are not that bad and I only have to take them once per day not three times a day like the calcium citrate so it is easy to get them down once. Hope everyone else who had surgery around me is doing as well as I am. I weighed myself yesterday (I decided Sunday's will be my weigh day) and I am down 15 pounds!! YAY!! I am so happy with this amount.
  21. I am 11 days post op and I am still only eating about 2oz of food per sitting (3 times a day), and sometimes I don't finish all of the 2ozs, I can't imagine eating 1/3 or even 1/4 cup of food. I am still eating soft foods, mostly Beans, some soft veggies, I have only tried purreed chicken and the texture just turned me off so I will wait til I can eat regular chicken. I guess is could be different for each of us, I feel good and I am drinking 2 Protein shakes each day as well. I HATE my Calcium citrate though and have a VERY hard time chewing them. I just ordered two different kinds from Amazon to see if I could find one that I can tolerate.

    one week from today 1-28-15

Only one more day!! I am getting excited/nervous. I had to do a bowl prep yesterday and that was not fun, but I am ready! I do have to work all day today so hoping that it goes by fast because after work my husband and I are driving to Pensacola to spend the night since I have to be at the hospital at 7am. How is everyone else feeling?
  23. I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery next Wednesday the 28th. This morning I opened my email to this: "Hey Julie, mom says your are getting some kind of weight loss surgery. They do allot at the hospital I work at, the gastric sleeve had replaced the lap band. A girl in my department and other patients who got lap band are not happy and wish they did not do it. The sleeve is newer so no long term feed back yet and do not get gastric bypass to many long term health risk. Call me if you want to discuss I know losing weight is hard I need to lose 40-50 lbs but I just got get down and gritty cardiovascular exercise portion control no refined carbs and weight training" Now, I love my family, but I emailed her back explaining that I had done my research and have already decided, with the help of my doctor and husband, that I was having gastric bypass. Why do people seem to think that they know how hard a decision it is to have this surgery and use it as a tool to get healthy. I am already nervous enough with less than a week to go, but I did not need this. Thanks for letting me vent this morning, I am still determined to go through with my surgery and prove to them all that I am doing the right thing for me!

    one week from today 1-28-15

I am also scheduled for the 28th! I start my liquid diet Sunday. Like you, I am getting very excited and am finding it hard to focus at work although I have a lot to get done before my surgery. I am working this weekend to try to get ahead and will probably do some work at home when I get home from the hospital - I'm an accountant so this is my busy time of the year! Anyway, I am also have some issues sleeping. I keep waking up at around 12am and having a hard time getting back to sleep. I am thinking about work, about whether I have everything ready for when I get home, scared and nervous, but mostly excited. I would love to have a buddy to talk to and compare right after surgery, I will send you a private message with my cell number so we can text!
