  3. Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie and looking forward to getting support and advice from others on this journey. I have read several times in several different places about sleevers having hernia repairs during their surgery. It often sounds to me like the hernia wasn't seen in pre-op tests. Is this often the case? I mentioned to my surgeon that I had developed a little lump next to my belly button and wondered if it could be a hernia. He said he'll see when I have the surgery and if so he'll fix it. But he didn't look at the lump and there wasn't any mention of it in the pre-op tests. I guess I shouldn't be concerned if my dr isn't. But does hernia repair cause complications? Thanks for any replies!

@@Kathy812 Kathy I too celebrated in June! But over the weekend I noticed something very faint. My initial thoughts were surgery was causing a hormonal reaction..... I did set up a gyn appointment but not until after the new year. In 2012 I had gone 11 months without a period and the dr. Explained that if a menopausal women goes a year without a period and then has one, she should be seen by a dr. Better to check things out. I would als ask the surgeon they know bariatric patients best.

@@Kathy812 lol! Toilet paper and my chicken soup Unjury and I'm set for any winter snow storm. I even mixed it in with mashed potatoes. The unjury not the TP, although at this point I could use the roughage. Anyone have any fiber suggestions? And Kathy if you are ever in the DC or Baltimore area we have to get together, with or without the chicken soup.

@@bellabill it may help to water it down, I didn't do that because I was desperate to get potassium in. I would use caution and also not do what I did and spend a day drinking only the v8. v8 fusion was fine also decaf coffee unsweetened and unjury chicken soup protein drinks help fill the savory craving. Wishing you the best. It just keeps getting better and better!
  10. I have been trying to get on here for days. The page either doesn't load or a post freezes and wipes out before posting. So my apologies for not responding and being supportive. I know someone had emergency hemmie surgery, hope they are on the mend and feeling better. Prune juice has been magical. Phase 4 has been tough but having lots of NSVs - tying shoes, more stamina for shopping and doing chores, donating bags of Clothes. And last night had a really cool experience, in the ER with mom (she's ok now) and after 7 hours I had to eat something, the vending machine had a protein pack of cheese, ham and almonds 2 ounces 13 grams of protein, cold fresh delist! hubby so impressed he's ordering it for his store. The old me would have gone for the pretzels and never considered anything else. Lovely, congrats on graduating!!! May this coming new year bring everyone good health and happiness and peace on earth.

Hi everyone Happy Holidays of all! Still here I ahve a difficult time logging on to BP or writing a post that freezes, frustrating. I just wanted to add my experience with tomato juice because someone just suggested it as an alternative to the sweet options. I didn't read all my NUTs notes before I tried some V8 and ended up with a very irritated belly. Tomato juice can cause irritation, too acidic for some, so be careful. LainieG thinking of you and hope to share your sleeve success in the coming months. Losing slowly but this week had a bunch of NSVs tied my own shoes, shopped then entire mega grocery store, got rid of 4 bags of clothes, cooked 2 celebration dinners including my own birthday bash and all this while having some intense pain from 2 bone spurs and an Achilles tendon problem- not bragging about doing it just sharing how I can do life with this utterly amazing sleeve. Wishing everyone good health, peace and happiness.
  12. @@shmeyers thanks for sharing the recipe! Stay strong Susan. I can understand how stressful things are. My father went through this. You are in my prayers. May the days and the New Year ahead bring you joy.
  13. @@shmeyers WOW! Your weight loss is terrific! Sooo excited for you! I'm trudging along, slowly but happily. Phase 4 has been difficult for me. I had a few days of grazing behavior, I was feeling hungry. I don't think I was getting enough protein in, so today I went back to doing some shakes instead of real food and I seemed to have a better handle on Sleevie Wonder. Any suggests for fast easy protein meals for breakfast or lunch?
  14. @@shmeyers um yeah toooo well. But at that point it was an on going explosion of happiness. Ok a mess of happiness. Along with a promise to myself to go back to Phase 3 mushiness for a few more days.
  15. Meant to say wishing everyone a happy week.
  16. Just wanted to thank you guys for your advice and support during the past week. I ended up using the prune juice and it worked really well. Really, really, really well.... Wishing a happy week.
  17. Terrible, horrible no good day.... I could use some advice..... Yesterday was my first day on regular foods, I had some leftover green bean casserole (a tablespoon) some mushed up meatloaf and for dinner I had some chicken thigh. Today I am having um movement problems so to speak.... This may be too much info but does an internal hemmroid make you feel constipated? Passing gas and small amounts of liquid poo (sorry forTMI) not sure what's happening but pretty miserable, took about 10 hot showers the heat seemed to help. I have a hernia that needs to be repaired and one that was repaired during VSG so I don't want to umm bear down lol. Will try the aloe Vera juice my nut recommends. Just not sure if it's hemmroid or constipation.
  18. @@Peekboo Hey Peek, I haven't, thankfully needed it so I haven't tried but I did buy 2 bottles to have on hand just in case as well as some glycerin supossotories. i got mine at the local grocery store but I think my NUT recommends ordering it from Douglas labs on line.
  19. I was sleeved on 10/22 and was doing fine until last week when I started having pain on my left side. My PA said it was ok, that there are a lot of very sensitive nerves there protecting the spleen and twisting or bending etc can trigger the pain. Tonight it was so bad after I twisted to check out my right side, the pain on my left was so intense i. Took one of my pain killers. I haven't needed them since my first week. Hope you feel better soon.
  20. My dr. Recommends aloe Vera juice. I believe it's available in different flavors.

@@funsize my preop diet was very easy. It was 1200 calories. Pasta, bread, rice , corn and potatoes were not allowed. Low fat or no fat cheese etc. if you are on a calorie counting pre op, The My Fitness Pal is a huge help. If you can eat anything besides shakes, my NUT recommended Moringstar prime grillers and canned chicken which were great. (Not together Lol) also trying to eat every 4 hours helped, plus the 64 ounces of fluid. Hope this helps.
  22. I am just 25 days post op and made a decision to just get weighed at my surgeon and PCP appointments until Jan. Which will be about every 2 weeks or so.

@@LainieG sorry to hear you're in pain. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for checking on me. This is my 4 th attempt to respond! Each post has been wiped out and they were all pretty long... I have been have some problems with my potassium levels. Gaterade has been life saving. Fluid retention- now off diuretic. And arthritis pain has really been the worse ever. But healing from the surgery has been great. Except for the occasional twinge, it's great. I did have a rough 2 days...I was driving and got cut off and had to slam on my brakes although i didn't hit the steering wheel the jolt really jostled my insides. I have no problem getting in my 64 oz. The protein drinks are a bit harder. Unjury chicken soup and chocolate splendor warm are my saving grace. Today I start purée stage! A bit of advice for newbies...try to get a clear plan of how to coordinate care between surgeon and PCP. I am only the second WLS patient my PCP has had. LainieG, my son suggested trying flavored club soda or seltzer to wean yourself off the diet coke. Can't imagine having carbonation with my sleeve. Let's just say "Sleevie Wonder" really talks to you and it's best to listen! Good luck with your appointments next week! Always wishing you the best! Welcome to all the newbies! You're gonna love this! What an adventure!
