  1. Hmmm... I took nine months of pre op visits with various people such as psych, surgeon, physicians, nurses, nutritionist, and exercise therapist. I would not have been ready in 30 days. Even after nine months the morning of surgery I remember saying I wish I had one more week. However the good thing is you can jump right in and move forward quickly! You will do great!!! ????
  2. GingerDiane, Good luck to you!!! Less than five days I bet you are so very excited. My only advice is to take things slow, allow at least 30-45 minutes to eat, getting your protein and water in will be a challenge (I'm still not getting it all), and really listen to your new little pouch ( mine is named grouch pouch). After surgery walk as much as possible and rest. I am never hungry so I watch the clock and even set timers on my phone to remind me to eat. You will do awesome!!! ????
  3. Hello! I had RNY eight weeks ago. Each persons decision which surgery to have is personal but for me gastric bypass was my only choice. I wanted the reminder that if I eat something I'm not supposed to like a piece of cake or candy I will become ill. Trust me when I say I will never try to eat something on my forbidden list. Dumping and/or vomiting would be no fun. However, because of the limited pouch size ( about the size of golfball) I am not able to hold much. I cannot drink fluids with my meals and if I don't chew well enough food will get stuck and cause me to vomit. The pain is horrible when food gets stuck. Happened earlier today with chicken. ???? try to get as much info as you can before making your decision. Navigate to other areas on here because people who have had the surgery have a ton of opinions to offer. I am happy with my decision even days like today. It's a huge learning process. Your tastes will change along with what foods you can tolerate. I think the sleeve is a little more forgiving. Good luck on your journey!!!! ????

    Peanut Butter

Kroger has PB2 in the health section usually on the very top shelf. I purchased mine from Amazon. Love it and my nutritionist recommends it because of the higher protein content and lower calories. The chocolate is yummy! I have one serving most evenings. ????
  5. My liquid stage was protein drinks, water, sugar free Popsicles, broth, and plain yogurt. Good luck on your journey!!! Take one day at a time and you will do great!

    It can't be just me

I hate food. Most days I wish I didn't have to eat. I think it's fear... Will my food agree or disagree with me. ????
  7. Piggy back rides from my hubby! ????❤️

    Epic Fail

Some days I feel like I didn't have surgery 8 weeks ago. I'll eat like the rest of my family, usually fast and laughing and then the pain hits me. I end up vomiting and really hating myself. We all do crazy things. We are only human. As long as you learn from it then it is not a mistake. Keep your head up and keep smiling! Hugs

    Progress

I'm doing photos. One pre op, 10 days, one month, three months, six months, nine months, and one year. I am two months post op. ????
  10. So glad you know what is wrong! You will feel so much better. My surgeon removed my gallbladder at the same time because of this reason. It's very common to develop gallstones while losing weight rapidly. Happy recovery!!! ????
  11. This happened to me at 6 weeks out. I went to bed in pain after having two pieces of stew meat. Woke up still in pain and couldn't eat breakfast. I ended up vomiting and the pain was instantly gone. Apparently the meat had become stuck. I am eight weeks post op and I have given up meat completely. I'll try again in a few months. Best of luck to you! Hope you are no longer in pain.

    All alone in this

I'm so sorry you are going through this difficult time. If we were close to one another I would be more than happy to drive you! This surgery is not one to go it alone. You have all of us for support but I think you need one on one support too. Hugs to you!
  13. Okay..... I am seven weeks post op. My regular food diet states I can have 1 cup of popcorn as a healthy snack. So today I went to the movies and ate an entire small popcorn (no butter or additional salt) during the entire two hour movie. I was grazing!!! I feel so guilty!!! ????

    Disappointed With Myself

I know. Movie popcorn is on my list of "occasional" foods. That evening I had meat for dinner and it didn't sit well. Ended up vomiting and lost 2 pounds the next day. I survived.

    Disappointed With Myself

Thanks everyone! I'm learning about myself everyday and I need to be forgiving. I will make mistakes. I do not feel hunger at all. The next time I go to the movies I will take a protein bar which will allow me to snack on something and it will count towards my protein goal. ???? Tomorrow is a new day!

    Protein help

My surgeon asked what is more important water or protein? Water is more important but without adequate protein I was told I will lose my hair, my skin will suffer, and so will nails and bones. I am seven weeks post op and my food diary is very sad. I still cannot get 60 grams of protein and my goal at my next visit in six weeks is 80 grams. Ugh! My focus right now is protein with no carbs, veggies, or fruit until I reach my goal. And no calories from fruit juice. I have lost 51 pounds but I have a stalled again. For now I'll just keep swimming! ????

    Pain pain pain

Eight days out and you will have some pain. My big incision was on the right because I had my gallbladder out but I've been reading a lot of people have their big incision on the left. The doctor explained it to me that the surgeon ties that incision very tight with sutures. Mine was sunk in too. The pain went completely away at three weeks. I am seven weeks post op today. I was in the hospital for 4 days and was on pain medication the entire time. I was taking pain medication only at night for the first two nights at home and then I didn't need it anymore. Give your body time to heal. You just had major surgery! Obstruction? I highly doubt it unless you ate something and are not following liquids only. Best of luck! ????

Recovery when you have little kids

Congrats on making a lifelong positive decision to get healthy! I had RNY 11-20-14 and my hospital stay was 4 days. I had acquired an infection from the Foley catheter and I had a fever of 101.6. Tomorrow I go for my six week post op and I am still on lifting restrictions which is nothing heavier than a gallon of milk. That restriction should go away tomorrow. I've stuck with it because the risk of getting a hernia. Good luck to you!!!

    Will I Never Learn?

Awww... We are here for each other. I am six weeks post op and I've learned I cannot tolerate meat. None. Except chili, go figure. I'm so frustrated and I've had a few break down moments. I've thrown up a few times these past few weeks and I know right now I need too. I tried some turkey burger tonight (3 small bites) and I can feel it sitting in my throat. Tomorrow I'm going back to soft foods like cottage cheese, yogurt, crackers with cheese. For some reason crackers are considered soft. I've also asked myself what have I done a couple of times today. I know I made the best choice for me and I'm still learning. However I am somewhat sad that I let myself get to the point of needing surgery. I've decided to attend a support group meeting next Wednesday hoping that I'm not the only person feeling frustrated. Keep smiling and I heard this will get better over time. The best part is we will be skinny hot babes by summer!!! ????

    Depressed

krisstep, I do have myfitness pal. How do I find you?
  21. SandyS

    Depressed

I am just over 5 weeks post-op and I've been battling depression on and off. Some days I feel great, other days I ask myself what in the world have I done to myself. I actually just asked myself that question before logging on. I try to eat and keep up with the family and before I realize it I have taken that extra bite which makes me sick, nauseous, and vomiting. I feel like I paid my surgeon to make me into an anorexic! I guess basically I did. But then I think about the positive and how I will feel when I reach my goal. Those feelings always outweigh anything else I may feel. Even though right now I am feeling lower than low. Keep your head up, keep smiling, and we are all here for each other. Hugs
  22. Hello all! I am in need of some food choice help. I am just over 5 weeks post-op and next Thursday I am free to eat with no restrictions. I do have a recommended list from my surgeon but I am struggling with putting a daily menu together. Can you guys post what your typical day is like and what food choices you make? Preferably people who are around the same time frame as me or a few weeks or so ahead. Thank you so much!
  23. No, I didn't know I could do that. I'll check it out. Thank you!
  24. I feel exactly the same as you. I am five weeks out and I have no interest in food, water, or my vitamins. I've been away from home this past week visiting family in Texas and I'm thinking that may have something to do with it. I also vomited two nights ago and that was a real turn off as far as eating. I've been struggling more than I thought I would. My goal is to drink at least 60 grams of protein on our drive home tomorrow and Saturday. If I can get it down in the car then I can do it when I get home. Good luck to you! We are in this together. ????
