Just tell me I'm doing the right thing!
SandyS replied to Sunshine_Gal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've too have been at a stall and frustrated! I am 3 months post-op, RNY. My physician said at this point I should be consuming between 600-800 calories and 70 grams of protein per day. I am right around 600 calories per day and I get between 60-70 grams of protein. My NUT told me she does not care how I get my protein as long as I get it either from food or shakes. I do a shake a day (Premier Protein, 30 grams of protein) and the rest I get from food. I also have 2-3 snacks per day usually a slice of cheese, a cup of lactose free fat free milk, or mixed nuts. This has just changed for me because previously before my doctors appointment I was consuming between 300-400 calories per day and an average of 40-50 grams of protein per day. I was told I need to step it up because my weight loss will stall and I will start losing more hair. So I stepped it up and I am full all day! Eating is a chore for me. Hoping my weight loss starts up again before I pull my hair out! LOL Best of luck to you. -
Hi Turtle Friend! My surgery was 11/20! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one stuck. Maybe we are at that stage in our journey. For now all we can do is stick to the plan and keep smiling! Best of luck to you. ????

I deleted my post. Didn't want to come across as not being supportive. Best of luck!

Strange? I am three months post op and I have been feeling the same way on and off for two weeks now. Usually happens in the afternoon but not everyday. Yesterday I was walking into my sons bedroom and fell against the wall. I thought it was strange because I haven't felt that way since surgery. I am hypoglycemic so I am wondering if I am having issues. ????

James, I usually only have one protein shake per day, Premier Protein (30 g. protein and 160 calories) and the rest of my protein I get from food. For breakfast I usually have Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt with mixed berries, lunch can be the same but sometimes I'll have cottage cheese or some type of soup either broccoli/cheese, bean, or chili. For dinner depending on what I have made the family I might have a little hamburger with a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. Meat in general makes me sick to my stomach and I don't do well with it so I ignore it all together. I'm thinking maybe the soups are not a good choice unless its bean or chili. Then at night I'll have my protein shake. I've also had Unjury Protein powder mixed with Lactose Fat-Free milk and berries for a meal. I joined a gym about two weeks ago and I try to walk on the treadmill three times per week for 30 minutes. This past week I haven't been because I had exams and my son has been home from school since we have had bad weather. This weight loss stuff has been hard to deal with! I thought mentally I was totally prepared but these hiccups/stalls are driving me crazy! Thanks for your help too. I really appreciate it.

James, I had RNY too. I am at my half way point as far as pounds I need to lose. I do count protein supplements in my total calories. I was just at the doctors a week ago. I was told to not track calories for now because obviously I was not consuming enough. For now my protein intake goal is 70 grams per day. I better step it up! Thanks ladies too for your comments! ????

What what what ... APPROVED! How much did YOU lose at 3 months?
SandyS replied to bangbangbarbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your approval!!! How exciting! I am ten weeks post-op and have lost 65 pounds. Everyone is different and we all experience stalls along the way. Best of luck to you!!! ???? -
2 months until surgery... how can I prepare physically/emotionally?
SandyS replied to bangbangbarbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to you!!! I had my "last dinner" every night for the week leading up to my surgery 10 weeks ago! ???? I was a rebel. Best of luck to you. Take this time and really let everything sink in. The life you know now will be gone... No more hunger or cravings. Best decision I ever made! Use all of the resources you have available regarding surgery. I had nine months of pre-op appointments and learned so much during that time. ???? -
Wow!!! 90 pounds lost in nine weeks!!! I think a two week stall would be considered normal if you have lost that much. Congrats!

I just found this at our grocery store! I love the triple berry and its 15 g of protein! Love it with a little granola too! ????

I choose gastric bypass from the get go. I wanted to extra support of knowing that if I eat something high in sugar my grouch pouch would let me know by dumping syndrome. I never want to eat sugar foods again. Plus gastric bypass is the gold standard! That was enough for me. however I do think it should be a personal choice and weigh all of the pros and cons. I am nine weeks post op and have lost 62 pounds! Not a single regret!

Found my answer. If only I could delete this thread. ????

I don't feel good ????
SandyS replied to Jkpizano5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I am not able to drink a protein shake and soup together. I chose one or the other. I think you may have had too much at once. I am nine weeks post op and I can finally drink a whole protein shake (premier protein which is 11 ounces) in an hour. At first I was lucky if I could consume 1/4 of it. Go slow and really listen to your pouch. Trust me when I say my grouch pouch tells me when to stop. I don't dare take another bit. Good luck and you will do great! ???? -
I have the most painful gas pains that wake me in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. I immediately take Gas - X but while I am waiting for the medication to kick in the pain is unbearable, literally will bring me to my knees. I would love to read what others are experiencing! Do you do anything before going to bed so this doesn't happen? I've been eating very small salads lately and I'm wondering if this could be a contributing factor. By the way I am 9 weeks post-op.

I will try romaine hearts. Thank you for the tip! ????

Thank you both! I figured it might be the lettuce. I wish I could have a sandwich! My physician has told me no bread or pasta for one year.

Gas pain and nausea
SandyS replied to suitechicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely normal. I had pain in one of my incisions for 3 weeks (my gallbladder removal incision). I was a lucky one to not have the gas pain. My surgeon really works hard to get all of it out. I was shocked! For now just walk, walk, walk. -
5 weeks out complication?
SandyS replied to newlifeb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my... Five weeks post-op and you are throwing up blood? Please call your surgeon immediately. Bright red blood is never a good sign. Are you taking medication to prevent ulcers? -
Help! I need to learn to eat slow!
SandyS replied to krisstep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still use baby spoons and forks. I am 9 weeks post op. I have eaten with a normal fork and boy I really made myself sick with bigger bits. Love those little utensils! -
Popcorn is on my list of foods I can eat and movie popcorn only occasionally. I can tolerate popcorn and chew it very well. My list says one cup air popped as a healthy snack. ????
-
Yes a pillow! I used mine while in the hospital. When getting out of bed I held on to it like it was going to save my life! It really saved me on the way home too. I attached a photo of the one I used. Perfect size!

STILL STALLED. help :(
SandyS replied to berkeleycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have stalled too! I am so beyond frustrated. I don't know if I'm not getting enough calories (500-600 daily) or if I am doing something wrong. I am 8 weeks post-op. I'm scared... what if I don't lose anymore?Yes, any input would be wonderful! -
Hospitals usually have all of your essential stuff too in case you forget something. ????
-
Everything I took like fun stuff (a book, laptop, iPad) I didn't use. I wore hospital gowns with their non skid socks. I did wear my robe when walking the halls. I took essentials too like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair stuff. The clothes I wore to the hospital I wore the same home. I was so out of it the first night I didn't need anything but sleep. Good luck on your journey!

Death: about 1 in every 200 patients dies as the result of bariatric surgery.
SandyS replied to RobinL123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has a 1 in 750 death rate. Scary thought but I am eight weeks post op and it's the best decision I could have made! We could die from any surgery, car accident, or death by chocolate cake! Just kidding! ???? For some reason I felt the need to say that. My bad.
