Things are really starting to settle in now that I was officially approved for my rny surgery... I am new on here, and I definitely have some anxiety around this surgery, but I'm also really excited about the new me... I've always been a big weight litter and when I was lighter I loved to run and I'm looking forward to getting back took that again... I am worried about the liquid diet and how my body will take this surgery... And how long it will take to feel "normal" again... Anybody with some advice on what they went through would be much appreciated... I know WHY I'm having surgery, but I still can't help feeling a little anxious now that I'm basically two weeks away from the big day...

Surgery check in Monday morning 8 am, surgery 10 am or so... I will be honest, I HAVE on three occasions cracked, and eaten food, but I have also lost 12 pounds... bowel prep tomorrow... I'mi've by and large been fine and haven't really wanted anything, and when i did show weakness it was for Protein... and the only thing I can't seem to get rid of thought wise right now, is pizza, my favorite food... I'm having a really hard time with that one.. anyone else having trouble, missing their favorite food?? At this point, I'm ready to go, and have already noticed how different things are when you aren't being ruled by your next meal or food... that has been a bit freeing and I am excited to lose this weight and really get back to normal, or my new normal, eating food and stuff... anyway, any encouragement or advice is always appreciated... hope you guys are staying stronger than I have on these pre-op diets...

This is so real now... any advice anyone?

I AM sitting here this morning any just noticing a lot of anxiety setting in for me... I was just approved for surgery Friday, and am anticipating surgery at the end of NEXT week... The anxiety of this whole thing seems to be hitting me for the first time... I've been an athlete my entire life, and have let my weight get out of control over the past 6 years... I find myself questioning whether this is all going to be worth it, even though I know why I am having surgery, and why I began down this path in the first place... for myself, for my wife and 4 month old daughter... I had a dad that died when he was 42... dropped dead from a heart attack getting out of the shower, and I am on this path so that my daughter doesn't have to go through missing her dad like my sister misses her dad... and like I miss him now... I just turned 37 in July... I am always confused about which forums are for what, being a newbie on this site, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for me going into what is going to be a major life changing event and hopefully will change the course of my family and stuff... I am really noticing what the impact of this is going to have on my wife and the changes she will have to endure as a result of my new diet... I hope to go back to work here in the next few months, and being a coach myself, I want to return there and be able to be a good example to my athletes... Does ANYONE have any advice heading into this surgery that they can give me to help with the anxiety that right now seems to be building by the minute?? It's funny how sometimes it's easier to open up about stuff like this to total strangers than it is to let in those that love you the most to help, but I honestly don't know how anyone that I know could understand what I am going through right now... Thanks for listening and any insight some of you may be able to offer... -
I have been weightlifting and doing cardio my whole life and one of my biggest questions is has surgery affected your ability to exercise after surgery?? Other than the obvious EASE as the weight comes off... I would consider myself an expert in this area all the way up to my degree in kinesiology, but I am wondering if anyone has had issues staying hydrated and exercising hard and heavy after surgery... I have asked my nutritionist, but I don't suppose there any better experts out there on this topic than those of you that have had surgery and are doing it. I am 37 and am also hoping that my muscle mass will help with the loose skin aspect of surgery... I have been told that because of the amount of muscle I have coupled with my "youth"that I might not have as much of a loose skin issue... Thanks for your help everyone in advance!

For those on liquid diets now.

Day 2 was DEFINITELY the worst of any day so far... I am day 4 of my liquid diet, although I just had some tomato bisque... but have been all liquid, chicken broth, beef broth, Water... I spice up the broth like I'm having a spicy bloody mary... LOL... somehow it makes me feel better about life... I did have a MAJOR slip up on Tuesday, had 4 pieces of beef Jerky... the hunger has gone mostly, although I am craving my favorite pizza SO BAD.. I had to take 15 minutes today to talk myself out of it... that's how i ended up at tomato bisque... but I am having surgery monday morning and have lost twelve pounds since monday... hoping to drop 10 more or so before surgery monday... anyway, I've started to look at it like it's never going to be all perfect, but you have to try and do your best everyday... and the pre-op diet is just to shrink the liver so they can work around it... Good luck!!! -
i think with surgery being imminent and me being on a liquid diet for the week leading up, I find myself thinking about some things... but really I think sometimes it's about fear of loss sometimes rather than focus on living my life LONGER and BETTER... anyway, I digress... I find myself wondering if anyone who has had surgery that smoked cigars prior to surgery, can or has smoked occasionally AFTER surgery... I think I'm just in mourning right now, as funny as that might sound... any thoughts from those with experience would be real helpful...

New to this site... a few post op questions
Bigdog56 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre-surgical right now. More than likely getting cleared on my last speed bump, psychology, TOMORROW! I am excited to move on in the process, and I am wondering if anyone has the answers to the following questions. I know you can't smoke, or shouldn't smoke following surgery, and I am not a cigarette smoker, but I DO love an occasional cigar. Does anyone here smoke cigars occasionally post surgery? My second question is this: I have been athletic and an athlete all of my life. I am wondering how people in their thirties have found trying to get their skin to shrink back after surgery. Did you have a lot of elasticity in the skin still? Did it shrink back a lot or no? I understand that some loose skin is inevitable with such a large amount of weight loss, and I have a goal of 150 lb weight loss. Does anyone have any insight into these?? I'm sure I will be much more active in the weeks and months to come. I am hoping to have surgery sometime early october. Thanks for the help!
