It's midnight and I am pleased to say that it's been a great day. Surgery was at 11am this morning and I am 3 hours into a good nights sleep, having woken for a pee and an obs check. I'm in an altogether better than expected place. All pain is well under control and so far I have had no gas or nausea issues. I have been up out of bed and walked a little. My 30ml (water) per hour restriction has just been lifted so I'm now on free fluids and I'm even promised half a cup of tea for breakfast! ...I'm happy....

I'm 7 weeks out today and on all normal foods with no protein supplements. I have thrown up twice to date and in both cases I had eaten too much. I am learning to listen to my sleeve and at the first feeling of fullness I stop. I used to take another forkful (as I always did in my previous life) and I always feel over-full, stuffed or nauseous. By stopping in time I don't feel anything other than satisfied. So, in my opinion throwing up is a result of eating too much!

My experience at Little Aston is that they will want you on liquids post-op for far too long of which they will have asked your doctor to prescribe you 4 weeks worth of Protein supplements. I moved onto Soups and then purée after 2 weeks as I couldn't live with the 100% liquid regime. I took some flack about that from the nutritionalist but I'm still here after 7 weeks and am on totally normal foods (including bread and rice) now and have been for a week or more. I got taken off any protein supplements at 5 weeks and told to get all I need from my regular diet. It works well so far. I did have a load of excess Protein Powder that I gave to my son-in-law Weight loss stalled twice about 10 days after surgery and I then had 15 days (8 days and then 7 days in two bouts) where I lost nothing. I'm now loosing steadily and as of a week ago I was down 4 stone 5lbs so by the time I weigh again I should be shaking 5 stone off. You're a week away from surgery so I guess your getting excited...

I was 3 weeks post-op yesterday and today the first ill-fitting clothes hit the charity bin. How good did that feel..?? -
How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
Andy810 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I want to weigh myself once per week, but I have got into the habit of weighing after my daily shower and can't (won't) break the habit -
How long were you in the hospital ?
Andy810 replied to ELI.p.m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Admitted Saturday morning at 07:30 and I was offered the opportunity to discharge myself at noon on Sunday. As I live 2 hours from the hospital and we had to return at 09:00 on Monday morning for the leak test x-ray and so as my wife doesn't drive we chose to stay another night. -
Today marks just one week from surgery and what a week it has been... Overall I can say that the first 2 days were pretty grim as I was woozy with the anaesthetic and cranky because I was struggling to get fluids in, but on the plus side I've had no gas pain, nausea or abdomen pain since coming out of recovery. The past 5 days I have been getting in increasing amounts if Fluid and am now at a stage where my 2 litres and fluid and 2 Protein drinks are easy, but I'm starting to yearn for something with a little some more structure - Jello just doesn't cut it! Since starting my pre-op diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery, I have lost 43 lbs (I have to keep looking at that number, Yikes!) Since this time last week I have lost 14 lbs. My first Post-Op visit to the doctor today went extremely well. I have almost no discomfort now and he has now removed all of by medication for hypertension as my unmedicated blood pressure remains within safe limits. So, I've gone from a situation where my blood pressure was a constant concern to being fully off medication in 3 weeks straight. Am I looking forward to the weeks ahead - waddayouthink??

Day 5, post-op and things are progressing at a pace. Yesterday I got in all my fluids (2 litres) without too much difficulty. Today they're just disappearing - my first Protein shake of the day (200ml) hardly touched the sides! No pain and only occasional discomfort in my abdomen wall and no nausea (yet...). I am really surprised at how quickly I'm leaving this behind

Sounds like you're on track too Grammy

Two Days Till I'm Sleeved
Andy810 replied to CocoPebbles1030's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 4 which means evening of the second day at home. The rate of change in my sleeve since I arrived home is drastic and today I have had no difficulty in getting in my 2 litres of water/protein. Soreness has mostly all gone and I walked a good 1/4 mile this afternoon. You're right home is the best place to recuperate! -
Pre op diet, did I blow it?
Andy810 replied to Seymour1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I trashed my pre-op diet 5 days prior to surgery due to a long standing business arrangement. I resisted all alcohol but I did enjoy a small fillet steak with spinach and grilled tomato on the side followed by good blue cheese and two crackers. 1400 calories by my best estimate. After my surgery 2 days ago my consultant commented on how well my pre-op had prepared my liver and so I smiled and agreed. Your mileage may vary... -
Wyomom: please don't give up on your pre-op diet. It wasn't much fun but I was pleased when my consultant told me that he could tell I had been diligent as my liver was "nicely reduced". That rewarded my hard work.

I'm sort of new here and I'm 2 weeks and a few days away from my surgery. I am reading as much as I can and a recurring item surrounds sugar and the need to avoid it as much as possible. Does anyone have a handle on the reasoning behind that and why we should steer clear? I'm fortunate in that I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I'm inquisitive about the rule.

How to Stop Binge Eating Before Surgery
Andy810 replied to Mellie May's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks and 2 days from surgery and trying to cram as much information as I can before the day. I am loving the 2-4 hour rule - that's one that I have made a note to follow. Thanks. -
Hello, I can see lots of postings from the US which give details of proprietary Protein drinks being used in the liquid diet post-op phase, but most of them seem to be unavailable in the UK. It would be interesting to know what experiences locals have had with UK products and which ones they were? Kind regards Andy

What protein drinks are you buying in UK
Andy810 replied to Andy810's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Indigo It sounds like you're in a similar situation to me where eating out is a prerequisite of your job. I have been considering the fortification idea but just don't seem to be able to get my head around adding milk powder to soup... Yuk! -

That's great - many thanks! It's always easier to glean from someone who has been there before
